I want to give my bathrooms an industrial look by painting the SS water pipes black. Is metal(not metallic)paint better than regular enamel paint for this job?

Home improvement program has just been completed at my flat and I'm furnishing the bathrooms. The sewage gas pipe in the common bathroom runs from the shower area to the other corner beside the toilet bowl. It is not only unsightly but gets in the way. Is it alright to have it removed and either cover the openings tight or put traps over them? Thanks!
