  1. Stunning images from your mood board, Owl! I'm crazy about the bedrooms especially - I love the monochrome-ness of everything, and the textured accents really add interest to the overall feel. Errr..... I did cement screeding for both my toilet walls, and I had the same concerns as you... However, the contractor assured me that "leakage" per se was unlikely to happen as long as the water proofing was done properly, and I was ok with cracks.. uurrgh, I guess I'll only find out in a few years! I'll post up some pics of my toilets once everything is done.
  2. Hey Owl! Finally, you got your gig going! I hope you have spades of fun with your reno, and looking forward to more entries!
  3. A lot has to do with the mentality of our people... we are such a long, long way from the Swiss & Austrians in terms of animal welfare standards. TOTALLY agree with Lux that people need to be more open-minded and consider adoption as the first choice, but it won't be easy getting them to do THAT, as long as pet shops keep bringing in and breeders keep churning out cute puppies/ kittens.. Also...If only HDB can come up with something to allow mutts to live with their adoptive owners if they fulfill certain criteria regardless of size...
  4. Lux, the last pic is a rat, rescued from a testing lab!! Hahaha yes, alot of people are creeped out by their tails but they are so intelligent, like mini dogs! I have 4! Fatcat, my kitties are ok with them so far. Curious, but never attack leh. In fact, just last night my black rat had a face off with one of them - pounced at her nose and then proceeded to chase her out of the room somemore!
  5. Heello from this side! Your boho look is so comfy-cosy! Looking forward to more updates! Y'know, I have always loved the look of a standalone hob-oven. thought it'll be prefect for your theme and was kinda hoping you'd go for it! Any reason why you picked build-ins instead?
  6. Hi Berried, the butterfly chair is from Comfort Furniture!! But they only have it in brown (and a note if you're particular about this: unfortunately, not real leather), I know CB2 has it in Black too
  7. Yay!! You got the black sockets! On a sep note, Crate & Barrel Warehouse Sale in Tuas this weekend! Might be worth a trip down, Fatcat?
  8. Hi Foxy, thanks for dropping in! I do have grilles over my windows, just that they aren't up yet (see the black wrought iron pieces under the window?) Having said that, some cats know naturally not to do a Mary Poppins on you if they register that the drop is too high for them to handle. An alternative you may consider if you don't want to feel "caged-in" would be to install magnetic insect screens over your window frames - cost effective and virtually invisible unless you get really up close. Here are some pics taken from - http://magneticinsectscreen.blogspot.sg/ Pretty neat huh? Good luck and I do hope you end up taking in a cat as well!
  9. Both of you are too sweet! Thanks for the kind words Lux, you should try painting a wall on your own! Very therapeutic and i think a dark gradient wash is simple to do, and will look great on raw brick *thumbs up*
  10. Hi fatcat, whole black sockets are available from Clipsal, but quite costly especially if you factor in sockets for the entire home. In our case, only our switch plates came in black, but the wiring box itself was originally standard issue White, then spray painted to match the covers. Was poking around for the cover brand and yup, found the packaging - FYM it says, on the box
  11. So busy with moving in, but it feels so odd cos there's still some way to go with the reno.. Since it's a long weekend and no contractors coming in and out of the house for a change, i decided to do a little xmas project with my main door light: Armed with a simple hanging bare bulb, balsa wood, yellow acrylic paint and a hot glue gun... ... We get a memphis-inspired pendant lamp at the main entrance! (sorry if the photo is bad/ dark, it's because all of my lights aren't completely up yet..) UNPACKING CONTINUES.... I'd forgotten how photogenic this set of coffee cups were.
  12. Hi Sarah, it feels like so much thought was put into how the trunking ran and i have to say kudos to landing yourself such an amazing aircon guy! I'm so jelly!! Your place looks really great! Hi Loop, thanks for dropping by! Yes, the reason for the bulky box is exactly as you mentioned, and yes, i have also decided to keep it as is
  13. Fatcat, they're afraid of the dark! Silly things! And they also kept me up all night scratching away at their litter box! Ks, haiz no choice la! Life giving me a lot of lemons, so drink lemonade lor! You'll be pleased to know that the cats made full use of the box on their first night here - by hiding in the space UNDERNEATH!! Anyway, Merry Xmas to all of you! Hope everyone's been enjoying the long festive weekend!
  14. Hi Tigaroo! Yes, I remember that awesome place - can only go and bio, cannot buy! hahaha. And we just revealed our age by acknowledging this whoops. That table of yours is droolworthy! Keep it and restore it, please! It looks so much like the Sottsass Bacterio print -
  15. Yes, Fatcat! I have to rush my move because my lease for the current apartment is ending 31st Dec.. It's not an optimal situation to be in now, but I'm trying to deal with everything as best I can. My 3 naughties. I can only imagine the stress they are going through now, the poor dears. I had to bring them back from the sitter's place 3 days ago, because she had another commitment this month. And due to unexpected delays in my reno, they were not able to go to our new place directly either. So it's gonna be 2 moves for them this week alone. They scare easily and hate being in the carrier, so I pray they will be OK this afternoon Hi Ks & Sarah, thank you so so much as well for your support and help in trying to figure this out for me! Really appreciate it loads! Sarah, I don't see any "box" in your red room picture tho...? All so neat n tidy! Did some checking yesterday evening, and apparently, this is the reason for its wider than normal "girth": 1) They wanted to hide the plug, wire & switchpoint. 2) As Sarah mentioned, it was indeed made to be easily accessible just in case aircon runs into problems! 3) The height of the "hole-in-wall" is really around the same height of the fabricated box! *Haiz* ...So after yet another sleepless night, I made the decision to keep it as is, due to these factors: - My lease for the current place will only last until end of this year, which means this Xmas weekend will be the only period I can spare time to move. I want to minimise the amount of messy works going on while we're living there. - As I still have ongoing works in the living room, the cats have to be with me in the MBR during this time. I cannot have workmen drilling and hammering while they're in there. - I suppose it can be a good excuse to do pimp that part of the room! - Lastly, I know I sound like a broken record already, but ya, my cats get another area to sit and look out the window
  16. Ricepapergirl, i had gotten most of my furniture early too, but one thing continues to elude me! My sofa. I noticed you'd already trawled Tan Boon Liat, and was wondering if you also happened to visit Pomelo? I keep delaying my visits cos it's so far away and I've been so busy. Is it worth a trip down?
  17. Oooohhhhh now i see it..ty!! Fatcat & Lux, why u all so smart?? and how am i so bimbotic sometimes... Geez. But now no choice really have to suck thumb and accept cos all done n i have to move in with my animals by tomorrow *groans* I'll try to get a photo of that pipe in the toilet later..
  18. I also have no idea sia, I came to see the house after work one evening and bam! The pipe was already up and along my toilet floor... I was also wondering how come it wasn't made to run outside of the flat...
  19. Hi Lux! Elephant trunk leh! Ya lor, I suspect it's become elephantine because system 4... But I cannot live without aircon. And yep you read my mind, gonna have to design a decal or something to go on it. aargh. I just had a look at your photos. It really doesn't look that bad! And I think it's a pretty good idea running the outlet to the kitchen drainage instead of toilet. Your toilets are too nice to be spoilt by that!
  20. Ks & Lfc, I'm not sure if can lower leh, because it's like two lanes converging into one from the casing at the side.. and super bulky. I have no idea why the trunking is like that. I'm using a System 4, so i think trunking from 4 rooms all coming together here in the MBR.
