Brand new beginning
Lazyfatcat007 replied to trcd's topic in Reno t-Blog Chat - HDB Resale Renovation & Interior Design
Hi trcd, ur place is looking good! I had lights issues as well cos bought most of my lights from TB and not sure how bright it will turn out. But one can always add a floor lamp for dark corners My living room chandelier has warm light, good for watching tv. Dining table has edison lights, has the cafe feel but I might just change to normal LED to save electricity... lol Im so excited to read the blogs, bring me back to my reno days -
@trcd.. sorry bro, havent been checking in for long time. I only have one toilet cum bathroom, and its too small to accommodate a basin as well, so have to stuff it outside. For my paintjob, i refused to let him touch anymore, so I deducted some money and got him out of my life... it's easier I think. I diyed the hairine cracks, but for the larger ones, have to leave it till I have more time... hth!

Casa la vista

Hello! I just thought I can share my pole system wardrobe with you. I didn't like the conventional type and the push factor for pole system is that you can customise whatever configuration that works for you. Of course, the con is that ypu need a enclosed frame to work with so that the poles can be mounted on. I added glass sliding doors to keep out the 'mess' and its working well for me. You can check out my last page of my tblog for more info... hth! -

Thanks Kara! Your cleaning tips always work well I've got a friend look at the cracks and he says its common especially when works are done to the wall. In my case, the old tiles hacked off and re-cemented and plastered. For the tinier ones, I can plaster again while for the more serious one, i need to peel away the cracked area before plastering. *pic of the crack*

Can't help but smile at your post... 1 foot in width? No wonder the electrician stun like vegetable... Everything is a learning experience for us new owners... I had to get my friend to open the trunking and add in fibre cos did not take that into consideration and my ID also never remind me Looking forward to see your complete house... so clean and chic! P/s: carpenter uncle looks pro.. can I have his contact?

Feedback on ID and his works: I must admit I can be quite anal about stuff but considering my scope of work to be exceedingly simple (at least to me) - no cornices, trimmings, minimal carpentry, I only expected my walls to be straight and straight lines. Simple right? Apparently not. First the painters cant paint in a straight line, which is blatantly obvious when using different colours. I told him to use tape but he continued to use freehand. Then ID claimed its cos the walls are not straight and began replastering... end up the wall near the floor not plastered evenly... Paintwork is uneven and lots of paint marks on the floor. By then, I was so disgusted that I did not want him to even step into my house. All the electrical appliances and furniture were installed by myself. I know some might call me stupid but I really cannot stand unprofessional work, I rather use my own ways to settle... yes I'm pretty stubborn. Fastforward to today when I spotted a big crack at my kitchen wall. I messaged ID and he asked me what I proposed to do. Then he asked why the crack was not highlighted previously. True colours out! I'm glad I have not settled final payment yet. Although this renovation has brought me much grief, it has a very educational one. No matter how accommodating the ID can appear to be at first, all the true colours will show eventually. And resale owners take note, not everyone is competant to handle old flats... choose your ID / contractor carefully.

Hello! Sorry, had been busy with moving house and overseas so haven't update . Like what I've said, have officially moved in on 6th Feb but till now I still have stuff at my father's!! Moving is tiring!! But at least all major items are in, still pending my DIY... here's my pole system wardrobe from OPSH: My new metal gate is also in (from Drdoors).. very sturdy!

Hey Mr and Mrs P, nice reno!! caught my eye that your sink and hob are pretty near to each other but you do have quite a bit of counter space.. deliberate decision? Mine was cos of limite space and I can feel the space constraint esp after washing dishes..

Theoretically, renovation has concluded and I have moved into the house on 6 Feb. In reality, I am not satisfied with the touching up done by my ID, but I'll leave that in another post. On a happier note, things have been crazy with cleaning up, shifting stuff and work. My wardrobe and metal gate is still pending. DIY items still pending too cos I dun have time... hahaha.
