  1. Errr.....If youre getting a HD media Player, you would still need to get a power amp to drive your 5.1 speakers. Im all for getting dedicated equipments for dedicated functions. Cheers
  2. Hi Congrats on getting a new home. Thankfully you have a clear budget for a proper HTS. Let me help you to decide. Within your budget, the usual suspects for sats speakers - 1. Definitive Technology Pro Cinema series. A few forummers in this forum are proud owners 2. Klipsch 3. Mordaunt Short MS 4. Tannoy Arena 5. B&W MT20/25/30 Items 4 & 5 are a bit pricier but what you pay for is what you get. Usually I would recommend a good sub woofer to replace the exisiting set up. But if youre happy with the current sub, keep it by all means. As for receiver, look no further than Onkyos & yamahas. Bluray player, get the OPPO80 or 83. The upscale conversion of these OPPo players makes your DVD pix looks like BR pix. Cheers
  3. rarenick Im glad you understand the prominient values of midrange, tweeters & nots. So youre pretty settled in what youre looking for. Now the bad news. I cant tell the difference between a $300 or $1000 HTiB. What Im trying to say is, HTiB are low end products (no matter how many fancy functions it has) which caters for the fussy-less. It doesnt matter if one model cost more than the other, theyre all the same with bigger capacity. Ugly truth = NOISE. I do suggest you look out for a better HTS & compliment with a receiver. KEC & other shops in Adelphi do offer installment payment for your purchase. Work out a budget & you wont go wrong. HTiB isnt upgradable. Your $600 will be an instant write off the moment you use it. Think about it. Cheers
  4. Then i really suggest you get the guys who repaired your speakers to calibrate them. Tell them even after repairs, the audio is still not acceptable. Cheers
  5. Try setting up the crossovers for all speakers at 120hz. If it doesnt work, then I would suggest you go back to the shop where u bought the receiver & try it on another speaker. Im in the opinion that the fault lies with the speakers. Sorry, what sub youre using? Cheers
  6. Def tech Procinema 60 with receiver probably going for $1,399 at KEC. Do check with them on latest pricing. I think KEC do have HTS packages as low as $1,099. Do pay them a visit. Cheers
  7. Bro There's a 2nd hand market at www.xtremeplace.com. Some brothers there are selling their equipments for a song. Work around your budget 1st then upgrade to better equipment once your finances aere ok. Cheers
  8. If youre looking for sat speakers that packs a punch & has a WAF factor, there's the Mirage Omni, B&W MT30 (The PV-1 sub is really really solid), Tannoy Arena & of coz Anthony Gallo. But what you pay is what you get. I rather pay a bit more & get quality stuff rather than troubleshooting any problems that arises later, such as speaker incompability. Cheers
  9. Dont mind me saying this but if youre going to spend on a good HTS set up, ask yourself, is it for looks or for the audio? This is a common problem when the WAF comes in. They want it to be chio & pretty. Cmon, we're talking about men's equipment here. Sooner or later, the wife will demand that our cars be painted in pink! The problem is not whether the 1610 has enough power to drive it, but I was shock when i read that the pod is a 4Ohm speaker! This is definetely a clear MISMATCH of speakers. On one hand u have a powerful Pro1000 center (8 Ohm rated) & an equally solid Pro800 sub but your L&R channel speakers is inadequate to match the performance of the centre & the sub. Even if you increase the volume for your left & right speakers (I highly doubt so, not for a 4 Ohm speakers), you'll be straining the speakers a lot. Do talk to your other half. Does she want to have guests coming in the home to be wow by the looks of the speakers or be wow by the sound quality? Cheers
  10. Why Pod Speakers? Your combi a little bit strange. You should use all DefTech speakers. Mix & match only for sub. Get a better receiver, think Yamaha or Onkyo. Cheers
  11. I agree. get the OPPO & all your upgrading issues will be solved. So far there's no $500 range BR player that comes close to OPPO's performance. If you want to ultimate, get the OPPO83. Cheers
  12. CK The 608 is quite a decent receiver. I shant "poison" you even more. Ensure there's plenty of ventilation for the receiver as it tends to get pretty hot. As for the center speaker, do get the 10CM if your budget allows. Btw, will you be going into bluray? Cheers
  13. Congrats on your HTS! Mind me asking why Onkyo 608? Also do ask KEC to calibrate your sub for you. This is a great system but if you want to enhnace it further, 1) change to a more power receiver 2) Change your 10CC center to the 10CM series lastly, 3) Get a SVS sub Cheers
  14. Ive used Cecil before. Personally, me & my wife are ok with his FS audit. He'll come & do an audit before reno & advise (usually after 1 week) the Do's & Dont's. He's pretty detailed so its best you give him a full details of oneselves (exact time 7 date of birth) I also dont buy 4d & TOTO (my MIL does!!!) but my house number has opened a few times since we moved in. Not in the exact sequence but the numbers serial are there. Whats important in FS to us is to ensure our home to be in perfect harmony with the elements & that will translate to a harmonious relationship between husband & wife. The home is a private place where hubby&wife communicate & a place to enlarge the family. Other than that, our careers & wealth are tied to our workplace which requires a different FS audit. Cheers
  15. For MS speakers, its a either love or hate affair. Do audition 1st. My AV will still be under power if you decided to get the 914. If I may comment, even Mirage's OMNI sat speakers packs more punch than the MS. This is base on my hearing experience. It may somewhat differs from somebody else. Cheers
  16. Errr..... Dont just look at the price. Do audition it. Its either one will like it or dont like it. The 914 is indeed a good speaker (price is acceptable for that kind of performance). The Onkyo 577 is somewhat under powered for the floorstander. Its just base on my opinion after auditioning this speaker a few years back. At $1,350 for the lot, no one can complain unless you listen to a different set up which may cost more. The anom "get what you pay after" amplifies AV purchases except BOSE which is overpriced for ancient technology. Cheers
  17. •Satellite speakers have a single speaker driver; two-way systems have a tweeter and a midrange driver or woofer; three-way systems have a tweeter, a midrange, and a woofer; four-way systems add a built-in powered subwoofer. •Floorstanding speakers deliver better bass response than bookshelf speakers and are more efficient—that is, they sound louder with the same power amplifier/receiver. •Bookshelf speakers fit well in most rooms and deliver a more neutral, better-focused sound than floorstanding speakers—but often lack deep bass response. •Satellite speakers reproduce high and midrange frequencies only, and must be supplemented with a subwoofer for good bass. •If you listen to a lot of music, go with floorstanding speakers—they're good for both music and movies. •If you primarily watch movies, go with a bookshelf + subwoofer combination. Bro, good tips above. You wont want to damage your good floorstanders right? Take note a good sub is essential to handle all the booms & crashes. Cheers
  18. Sorry Im comparing the higher range of Onkyo amp eg 607 & 707. Both uses Faroudja chipset which essentially makes your pix quality (DVD or Bluray) much better. Subwoofer calibration is basically to achieve a better bass response eg the sweet spot. I'll let my amp do the calibration. Not too loud, not too soft, not too boomy, not too weak. It has to be tight, handles fast & low. If you feel the octave boom from your current sub, then its great!!!! No need to touch anything else. I may suffer from hearing problems Cheers
  19. Congrats on your new system. What sub youre using? Youre aware that Onkyo 508 dont calibrate subwoofers & video upscaling rite? Cheers
  20. Its a bit strange that your Mission 783 floorstander has a cross frequency of 120Hz. Its normally for sat spekers. never mind, try to recalibrate your front& center at 120Hz & see if there's any difference. Update us. Cheers
  21. How many movie contents do you know are encoded in 3D format? 3D is just a format whether the display is on LCD/LED or Plasma. Cheers
  22. Can the L shape hook allow the speaker to rotate? If not, get a proper bracket. Cheers
