Need Help In Home Entertainment System (sound Bar)
vicenzo70 replied to SLYW's topic in Electronics & Electricals
The only good thing to say about Pioneer is their Universal DVD players. What's your budget? let me recommend you a decent set-up. This Pioneer HTS is not a pure HTS but merely a HTiB. I seriously do not think you can do any upgrades or matching with other models, should you feel the need to upgrade. Cheers -

vicenzo70 replied to sakae sushi's topic in Sound and Vision -Home Theatre Systems & Audiophiles
PY800H is going for $2,099 at Mustafa & HDB neighborhood shops with $200 taka voucher thrown in. PY800H is value for money for a plasma. Cheers Vince -
One could spend less than $1K for a good HTS by getting a 2nd hand amp with new speakers. Good & realiable 2nd hand amps could be procure from our local hi-fi websites like xtremeplace & hardwarezone. 5.1 speaker systems could be auditioned at hi-fi shops in Adelphi. PM me your budget, maybe i can help. cheers vince

Need Help In Home Entertainment System (sound Bar)
vicenzo70 replied to SLYW's topic in Electronics & Electricals
Federick Hi I dont presume to know the reasons why soundbar owners are selling their their soundbar. HTS enthusiast do not sell their sound wares unless theyre in an upgrading mode. All you have to do is to visit hardwarezone & see how many dissatisfied owners of soundbars. Again, i dont presume they all have hearing problems. Lastly, do we buy a sound system for their looks or for their sound? Regards Vince -
Bro What's your budget for a HTS? Maybe i can help Cheers

Need Help In Home Entertainment System (sound Bar)
vicenzo70 replied to SLYW's topic in Electronics & Electricals
Hi Rumi. let me try my best to answer your technical question. How does a soundbar deflect back speaker sound puzzles me as the speakers are located in front. What product does one associate Phillips with? Electrical consumers products, TV, BUT not SOUND SYSTEM. I rest my case. Whether youre a tru-blu audiophile enthusiast does not matter. Soundbars don't come cheap, it not upgradeable (hence if it conks, u have to sell it cheap or scrap it) & personally, it sounds horrible. A 5.1 system with proper cabling management, can produce warm & sweet music or realistic sound for movie watching. Your living room is perfect for a good 5.1 HTS system. Do consider it. Cheers Vince Its real wonder why is someone selling his TEAC soundbar. If the seller's in a upgrading mood, he suddenly realised that he cant do that with his soundbar. Cheers Vince -

Federick Hi No space for a proper 5.1 surround? Mind me asking how small is your living room? Have u considered satellite speakers like the miniature DefTech Pro Cinema series? I highly recommend it & it cost about the same as any soundbars & it definitely sounds better. http://www.definitivetech.com/loudspeakers.../procinema.html Check out the website. The entire range if lined up is even smaller than your soundbar. Besides Teac or Sonic, have u considred the Yamaha YSP soundbars? Cheers -
Is it worth it? Only your ears can attest to it. No doubt, Mark Levinson is famously known for their high end audio equipments such as their amps & pre-amps. How LG got married with Levinson is a wonder. There's other better brands which I can think of that caters to the highly sound seeker perfecto, namely, Bowers & Wilkins (B&W), Lexicon, Denon, Krell etc etc Why dont u audition it & share with us your experience? Cheers

Need Help In Home Entertainment System (sound Bar)
vicenzo70 replied to SLYW's topic in Electronics & Electricals
Hi Read my earlier postings on the deficiencies of soundbars. Though they may be sleek, use less cables but its not cheap & personally, sound bars tend to sound like a warbled peacock in a gunny sack. For the same amount of money, do explore a proper 5.1 set up. The pros of having a proper set up is upgradeable in future & you can have the full effects of what a 5.1 suppose to be. Do audition some hi-fi shops at Adelphi. If you need any recommendations, do PM me. Cheers Vince -

Audio House products are generally over-priced. I had a bad experience with them over the price of their electronic products. In the end, those cost conscious customers should check out prices at Mustafa or HDB neighborhood shops like Everjoint or Goh Ah Bee. You'll be surprised at how much cheaper you can get from these places. Cheers -
maybe this should help those choosing between Plasma or LCD. Should I Buy an LCD Television or a Plasma Television? By Robert Silva, About.com See More About: * lcd tvs * plasma tvs * lcd tv plasma tv differences * large screen tvs * hdtvs Question: Should I Buy an LCD Television or a Plasma Television? Answer: The final decision as to what type of flat panel television to purchase (LCD or Plasma) is really up to you; both types of flat panel televisions have advantages and disadvantages. Plasma Television Advantages For Plasma televisions, the advantages over LCD, are: Better contrast ratio, better ability to render deep blacks, more color depth, better motion tracking (response time), and more availability in very large screen sizes. Plasma Television Disadvantages However, the disadvantages of Plasma vs LCD include: more susceptible to burn-in (although this is not as much of a factor now, due to technology improvements in the past few years), more heat generation, does not perform as well at higher altitudes, and shorter display life span (although this too is changing due to technology improvements), heavier weight, and more delicate to ship. LCD Television Advantages LCD television advantages include no burn-in susceptibility, cooler running, less screen glare, more functional at high altitudes, longer display life (although improvements are being made in Plasma screen life), looks better in brightly lit rooms. Also, LCD televisions have made great strides in upping-the-ante in native pixel resolution, with a growing number of sets offering a full 1080p (1920x1080) display capability at affordable price levels in screen sizes ranging from 37-inches and up. On the other hand, the number of Plasma Televisions offering 1080p native pixel resolution are still few and far between, as well as being more expensive in comparison to their LCD counterparts. One factor to consider in favor of LCD over Plasma (at least for the near future) is that if you are planning to purchase a Blu-ray Disc, HD-DVD, or Upscaling DVD Player, LCD may be a more cost-effective option as you can get a 1080p LCD set from 37-to-42-inches at a lower price than and 42-inch size Plasma set that has 1080p resolution. One other factor to consider is that LCD televisions are typically lighter (when comparing same screen sizes) than their Plasma counterparts, making wall installation easier. LCD Television Disadvantages LCD televisions do have drawbacks in several areas vs Plasma televisions: Lower contrast ratio, not as good rendering deep blacks, not as good at tracking motion (although this is improving, especially with the implementation of 120Hz refresh rates on higher-end models). Also, although LCD televisions do not suffer from burn-in susceptibility, it is possible that individual pixels on an LCD televisions can burn out, causing small, visible, black or white dots to appear on the screen. Individual pixels cannot be repaired, the whole screen would need to be replaced at that point, if the individual pixel burnout becomes annoying to you. Finally, large screen LCD televisions are usually more expensive than an equivalent-sized Plasma television, although the price gap is closing. The Mercury Issue Also, one argument that Plasma Television manufacturers are making about LCD Televisions is that they use mercury as part of the chemical makeup of the florescent lighting used to illuminate the screen surface. However, this is a "red herring" with regards to choosing a Plasma Television over an LCD Television. In LCD sets, the amount of Mercury used is not only small, it never comes in contact with the user. Also, keep in mind that most common high-efficiency florescent lamps also use Mercury. Mercury is one of the Earth's elements; its existence in nature is a part of natural processes and has both beneficial and non-beneficial uses, just as most other elements and chemical compounds. You are probably in more danger eating fish, that may contain traces of Mercury, a couple of times a week than watching, touching, or using an LCD TV. Also, with the development of LED lighting sources for use in LCD televisions, which is Mercury-free, this issue will resolve itself in the years ahead. LCD Television and HDTV Reception On the HDTV part of the equation, most LCD televisions already have built-in standard TV tuners (HDTV tuners must usually be added externally - but more are showing up as a standard feature), while many Plasmas are just monitors-only and may require both external standard and HDTV tuners to receive television signals (although more are beginning to include either NTSC and/or both HDTV tuners). This is definitely a point to check when making your buying decision as it will affect your budget. Closing Thoughts My recommendation is to go to a dealer and really take a look carefully at several Plasma and LCD televisions and compare the performance based on the above factors and narrow down your choices to one or two of both types and make your decision based on what type will give you the most pleasing image, connection flexibility, and fits your overall budget expectations. However, both Flat Panel Plasma and LCD televisions are viable options for home theater, and, with prices continuing to come down and features and quality continuing to go up, both types are quickly becoming a good value for consumers.

ERrrr...sure anot? I have a HD ready LCD & a Full HD LCD (both samsung) side by side at home. When i play Bluray or SD DVD movies simultaneously, the pix quality on a Full HD is very much evident leh. Its like comparing VCD & DVD quality. cheers Vince
-
Cmon, how can there be no difference between HD Ready & Full HD? try comparing using a Bluray player or a good upscale DVD player esp those that can upscale to 1080p. Then you can tell me if there's any diff on the panels of HD ready & Full HD. Cheers Vince

Anyone Knows Where To Buy Those Universal Speaker Holder?
vicenzo70 replied to Hseeker's topic in Electronics & Electricals
May I know what rear speakers you using? Cheers Vince -
Totally agreed. Though I was a LCD advocate before, but after owning both LCD & plasma, i'm convinced that plasma do a better job in contrast, color & realism. And if one has a good upscaler DVD player like OPPO, the pix quality superiority is more obvious on a plasma than on a LCD. Cheers

Hi Its either customized or Adelphi. I customized my TV console according to the measurement of my amplifier, DVD player & Bluray player, with a standalone space for my subwoofer & complete with a DVD/Bluray rack. Sorry, no pix. Cheers Vince

Samsung La40a550 Or Sony Klv40s400 ?
vicenzo70 replied to florabliss's topic in Electronics & Electricals
Hi The samsung N81 series is already discontinued. Good thing youre being offered something newer. For the choice, i would go for Samsung & that's my personal preference. Atcually, why cant one top up slightly more to get the Panny? You wont regret it. Samsung LCDs are using soft lens panels. Contrast wont be as great(as compared to plasma) when watching movies. That again, is my personal opinion & viewing. Cheers -
Samsung La40a550 Or Sony Klv40s400 ?
vicenzo70 replied to florabliss's topic in Electronics & Electricals
Hi Specs is almost identical albeit their own technical glossary gizmos to promote their product. Have u considered Panasonic plasma 42PY800H? If u asked me, it has the better specs amongst the rest, currently. End of the day, its your eyes that determines which panel to buy. Cheers Vince -
