  1. Bro Onkyo 607 using the Analog to HDMI video upconversion by Faroudja DCDi chipset leh. It will do a superb visual upscaling on your TV. Atcually, I would advise you to dump the Jamo speakers & go for something that's in your budget. What about the Definitive Technology Procinema series? Check it out at KEC @ Adelphi. The sales staff there are friendly & not pushy. Cheers
  2. If youre into HD format (bluray eg) go for Plasma TV. Panasonic or Pioneer brands & you'll never go wrong. Cheers
  3. Hi Since you have auditioned the Onkyo+Jamo combo & liked it, I'd say, go for it. How much is this set up? Cheers
  4. Bro Not sure if the aircon salesman is telling the truth. Im using a 25K BTU Mitsubishi Inverter system 4 aircon. And Im staying in an old AMK estate where my electrical loading is not upgraded to 40amps. But sanyo is also a good aircon but unfortunately I couldnt get their system 4 inverter, its precisely becoz my block is not equipped with the latest electrical loading. may i ask what HT system are you getting? Cheers
  5. Since youre going to have a lot of audio & visual equipment, i suggest you go ahead with having an aircon in the living room. Its going to be your investment for a very long time. I was contemplating on having an aircon in the living room & decided to go for it since, I too, have plenty of AV equipment. The reward? Your own unparallel HT cinematic experience that your friends will envy. Cool & condusive environment helps. So, go ahead & get that aircon. Cheers
  6. Hope this help, from a TV guru. If u want my advise, go for plasma. Its not as expensive as one thinks. Cheers LED TV Technology Pros and Cons by Robert Wiley PROS The viewing angle on LCD Televisions with LED back lighting has improved dramatically to plasma-like levels of 75 degrees with no contrast level degradation on some of the best ones. The black levels on the best new LED TVs has improved to plasma like black levels while contrast levels still lag the best plasmas by hundreds of post calibration points Brightness on LED based LCDs is better than the traditional flourescent bulbs LED TVs will have better consistency of color information over time than traditional LCDs LED backlit Televisions should in theory have a better lifespan than traditional LCD TVs or plasmas. CONS LED TVs with local dimming use more energy than traditional LCDs. It's not much, about 100W for a particular size range. LED Televisions with discreet backlighting can have lots of dimensional depth to the cabinet. We recently reviewed one with a 6" depth to the cabinet – making it less wall mount friendly. LED TVs are quite a bit more expensive than traditional LCD TVs
  7. Not too sure if EZY Video do Bluray rentals but that's one option. The other is to buy it from Amazon US. Its much cheaper than getting from our local stores. Savings is sometimes as high as 50%. In fact there's an offer to buy UP, Monsters Inc & Cars Bluray for US30.97!!!! Now, that's a lot of savings. Postage is only US12.97. Not forgetting our S$ has strengthen against the USD. The last day of offer is by 30 Nov09 Some good reference Bluray movies - 1) Ironman 2) Knowing (the train crash scene) 3) Transformers 2 (the desert war scene) 4) Coraline (good 3d animation that brings the best pix quality if watched on plasma) 5) Hellboy 2 (the DTS HD master audio is awesome!!!!!) Cheers
  8. Let me summarize for you. Watching DVD - it doesnt matter if you go for LCD/LED or Plasma. The difference is not so significant though the black contrast for plasma is more evident. As for brightness, LED is tops. Watching High Def format eg Bluray - go for Plasma. Gaming - not sure. The source to a great pix quality is also very important. That is why its wise if you invest in a good DVD or a Bluray player. And dont use pirated discs. Cheers
  9. Bro, I fully support your findings & not because I have a 42" plasma at home. Have to admit Im a Home Theater nut & I have tried various new technology ie LED, LCD, CRT & Im in the conclusion that Plasma is a clear winner when it comes to watching movies in HD format (Bluray) The old adage about plasma - consume more electricity (how much more?), panel gets hot (hot enuff to fry an egg?) & dead pixel problems (really?) is just that, old mums tale. For the not so fussy consumers, if LCD/LED is good enough then its good enough. But i cant help but dig at people who thinks that LCD/LED's specifications are much superior than plasma. Its like telling the world that a Sony bluray player (no offence Sony!) is much better than the coveted Oppo BDP83 player. Btw, the Sony BDP550 cost $999 hor & its not your low end $299 BR player. Cheers
  10. Take the plunge & go for plasma. Watching HD movies in bluray format has been an overwhelming experience for me. Cheers
  11. Im also using Univonna leather sofa (Model : BEN 2 seater sofa - 2 sets). its still in excellent condition after 1.5 years usage. As Elfe mentioned. the sofa is very spacious(not your regular size sofa) & comfortable. Cheers
  12. I concur. Panasonic is much much better. End of the day, get a disc & do a test. Your visual experience will determine your purchase. Cheers
  13. Let us know if u can power your speakers with a non Bose amp, bro. Cheers
  14. go to BOSE website to view jewel cubes pix. Cheers
  15. Not sure about Jewel cubes but I do know that BOSE is very proprietary. It has to use back BOSE's amp/receiver to drive the speakers. In other words, its very hard for BOSE owners to upgrade their sound system. Its either u chuck the whole lot or buy back BOSE. Cheers
  16. Bro Your 602 is a very impressive speakers!!! More bass? What sub are you using? Cheers
  17. If you have money to buy BOSE (Buy Other Sound Equipment), you might as well take a look at other brands like B&W, tannoy or Anthony Gallo. Cheers
  18. Good read!!!! Like i mentioned earlier, the soundbar is only good for bedroom acoustics (not living room) & also adequate for processing DVD audio formats. If youre into Blurays, then i would recommend one to get a complete HT system with an amplifier that decodes Bluray audio formats. If you think DVD sound is good enough, then its fine. I was a DVD fan until i started my Bluray destiny. I was whacked in awe & hasnt looked back since. Cheers
  19. Bro, thumbs up to u!!! Btw, which B&W speakers are you using? Im using the modest CM series. Cheers
  20. Only amplifiers/receivers are able to decode True Dolby & DTS HD Master Audio SOUND formats. These formats are the standard in most movies offered in Blurays. DVDs only contains Dolby Digi and/or DTS. So far soundbars cannot decode these HD formats, so watching bluray will not be in the best experience according to my opinion. I wouldnt recommend a soundbar unless its for the bedroom. And a soundbar also doesnt come cheap. If youre able to appreciate the cinematic effects, try going for the complete 5.1 or 7.1 system. Cheers
  21. Bro If youre thinking of watching Blurays, I dont recommend this system. It doesnt decode True HD Dolby & DTS HD master audio format that is available in most Bluray discs. Cheers
  22. What so chio about a piece of sound bar? Have you seen the chio-ness of the Tannoy Arena speakers or maybe Anthony Gallo Nucleus Micro series? It may cost more but it definetely sounds much better. Forget the HD hype about soundbar. If youre watching Bluray disc, there's no soundbar at this moment that can decode HD Dolby or DTS HD master audio format. Be informed. Its still better to get a receiver that can decode these formats if youre watching Bluray. Cheers
  23. Bro, whats your budget? I would still recommend strongly that you dont get housebrands HTS. KEC (shop in Adelphi) has good HTS that caters to your need. If youre concern on the pricing, they do offer 24 month instalment payment. For a modest $1,500 budget, you could indulge yourself with a good receiver & a solid 5.1 system with solid built subwoofer( am thinking the Definitive Technology pro cinema series) Seriously, the sound from this baby is like youve never heard before. Cheers
  24. Sorry to intrude, are we buying a SOUND system for the sound or for the looks? Yamaha is a pioneer in sound technology. Though I wont recommend a soundbar, but Yamaha's soundbar is much better than any brands currently. If you have the budget, i would recommend one to get a full 5.1 or a 7.1 system. Cheers
  25. Dont be angry over such trivial matters. Moving to a new home is suppose to be a joyful experience. So what if delivery man is late? He may have encounter some problems along the way & not forgetting there may be other deliveries to be done as well. I also waited for more than 4 hours for my furniture delivery only for them to deliver the wrong item. What is done, cannot be undone except to call the shop & informed them the mistake. And maybe ask for some compensation which most service orientated companies would oblige. I would use & recommend Everjoint again. You think theyre lousy, you havent seen the worst of other companies. Cheers
