Recommendation For A/v Receiver And 5.1 Speakers
vicenzo70 replied to garion's topic in Electronics & Electricals
Hi U can asked them for the ProCinema 600 package. Who's the sales rep attending to you? Normally, their service are quite good. Most amplifiers are HDMI compliant but just to be sure, check with them or with us here. Cheers -

I agree. Go Bluray & you'll never step into a cinema again BR discs are not very expensive. Amazon offers great discounts from time to time & of coz there's pre-owned BR discs available. Visit www.xtremeplace.com under Planet Disc Sales to be spoilt for choice. Cheers -
Cool. Cant wait to see. Btw, 685s has a 3-6 months waiting period. Thinking of ordering HTM61 center speaker also has to wait 6 mths. Thinking of getting the DefTech Mythos now. Cheers

Yep. Its better to put them wider apart. But if your using satelitte speakers, it wont make much difference. If youre having floor standers, the best effect is more evident if theyre above 2 metre apart. What system are you planning to get? Dunno about u guys, but I prefer DTS HD Master Audio than True HD. If anyone has watched VALKYRIE, the low bass boom (from the sub) is simply amazing!!! My up & downstairs neighbors thought there's a livefiring exercise nearby in the night Cheers -

Its not a marketing gimmick. Hi Def sound format currently is TRUE HD & DTS HD Master Audio. Make sure your receiver & bluray player is compliant with this format. The new sound format will blow u off your feet. Cheers -
Bro U ordered your 685s? How much u paid? What's your waiting time? The Experts got stocks ah? Cheers

I think he meant the Bose Lifestyle 35 that costs $6K. Got a friend who was impressed with BOSE & bought it for 2 reasons. #1 - Can pay instalments. #2 - Sounds real good (reasons being that Atlas Hi-Fi spent close to $300K to reno-pad their audition room) When my friend finally put up his BOSE system, he was horrified by the "bright" sound that dont sound close to what he heard at the showroom. So i advise him to put more curtains & reposition his speakers to get his effect. For a $6K system where its practically un-upgradable, has no video upscaling via the receiver & dont support HD sound formats, its a no brainer. For half that amount, one can get the best technology & better AV quality that rivals Bose. As again = BOSE acroynm is Buy Other Sound Equipment Cheers

Haha Thks for your compliment. Im still learning as well. I just happened to spend a lot of time in audio shops & managing my own home equipments. With a modest budget, one can get a solid Home Theater System that will wow your friends & neighbors. For those embarking on a entry level HTS, dont get confused by the jargons. What's important is the sound quality & its within your budget. Ditch those HTiB (Home Theater in a Box) & Soundbars. They may be good looking but they do sound crappy. Except for the $1,599 Yamaha Sounbar (cant rem the model) Cheers -
KEC do not carry B&W anymore. You can try this place to audition. The B&W showroom is next to imminient plaza. remember, B&W is a slow poison. They longer u hear it, the more u long to buy it. But thank God for pure sound. For Mirage/Nano, its better if your place is well padded. Bean bags & carpets helps a lot. This system uses all surround technology & since sounds bounces off concrete walls, it easily distorts any direct audio or sound from the speakers. Like i said, these speakers is good in an enclosed environment. Cheers -
Bro, if you want my advise - Morel is overpriced. Sound quality is so so. Design is a touch & go. No point having a nice looking sound system but short on performance. At 2.8K, might as well go for the B&W's mini Theater system. Any cheaper, try the Definitive technology Pro800 series. This system packs a mighty punch!!! Cheers

BOSE = Buy Other Sound Equipment Go to KEC. Your $3K budget can go a long way. Cheers

A note of advisory - Any speakers that are light are usually crap in quality. same goes for a subwoofer. If you can lift the sub with 1 hand with little effort, its also crappy. Most standard subs weighs a hefty 5kg & above. My Velodyne is already 25kg alone. Cheers -

If i can change your mind, i know of someone selling his B&W M1 speakers - complete set 5 unit of speakers(2nd hand but in mint condition) + brand new ASW608 subwoofer + Yamaha 663 receiver(2nd hand but in mint condition). Only used for 15months. The pix & specs are located in this link. If you think Jamo is nice, B&W's M1 is more chio-er. http://www.bowers-wilkins.com/display.aspx...=1325&sc=ht If youre keen, pm me & I'll put u thru to the seller for discussion. If Im not mistaken, a brand new set is about $3.5K. He's upgrading his system, maybe you can bargain with him for $1.5K. Cheers -

You need to run in the cables for a while to seasoned it. I would say, the 1st 100hours will suffice. Atcually, good HDMI cables are not expensive if you know where to get them. www.xtremeplace.com do have the occasional Mass Order for Monoprice cables. Its cheap & the quality is top notch. In fact, i have several of different length. Cheers -

Bro Keep the 607 but ditch the Jamo. The speakers wont do justice to your receiver. Did u check for a HTS package from KEC? Ask COURTS for a better HDMI cable to replace the monster cable. Not many people uses monsters anymore. Extended warranty also not nescessary as your amp is covered for parts (1 year) & service (3 yrs) But take note Onkyo amps are well known for heating problems. So keep the receiver in a well ventilated area. If your living room is air conditioned, its even better. Another brother in this forum was looking at Onkyo+jamo. But after he heeded my advice & auditioned another speaker brand, he, too, decided to ditch Jamo. Hope this helps & enjoy your HTS. Cheers -

If you find something u like, let us know. Ensure your amp has HDMI capability & able to decode DTS HD Audio & True HD Dolby. Other than that, happy hunting & get blown away from the real AV stuff. And if you do get a proper set up, let me say in advance, welcome to the club. Visit www.xtremeplace.com if you need any help or inspirations. Cheers -

Recommendation For >42" Plasma/lcd <$1700
vicenzo70 replied to Prune's topic in Electronics & Electricals
Get the plasma FULL HD if youre watching in HD format. Plasma vs LCD The ADVANTAGES of Plasma over LCD are: 1. Larger screen size availability. 2. Better contrast ratio and ability to render deeper blacks. 3. Better color accuracy and saturation. 4. Better motion tracking (little or no motion lag in fast moving images). The DISADVANTAGES of Plasma vs LCD include: 1. Plasma TVs are more susceptible to burn-in of static images. (NOT true anymore) 2. Plasma TVs generate more heat than LCDs, due to the need to light of phosphors to create the images. 3. Does not perform as well at higher altitudes. (if youre living in Bolivia or Bhutan) 4. Potentially shorter display life span - this used to be the case. Early Plasmas had 30,000 hours or 8 hrs of viewing a day for 9 years, which was less than LCD. However, screen life span has now improved and 60,000 hour life span rating are now common, with some sets rated as high as 100,000 hours, due to technology improvements. -
Recommendation For A/v Receiver And 5.1 Speakers
vicenzo70 replied to garion's topic in Electronics & Electricals
Hi You plug in your player via HDMI cable to your amp & out again (also HDMI) to your TV. The speakers has to use normal cables via the amp. But rest assured if your receiver decodes DTS HD Audio & True HD Dolby, you'll be getting solid HD sound. The Pio919 is quite a powerful amp. is it necsessary to power such a small speakers like Jamo? If you think Jamo looks cute (sorry, Im of the opinion Jamo sounds horrible) take a look at Def Tech http://www.definitivetech.com/Products/Ser...nemaSeries.aspx or MS Genie http://www.mordauntshort.com/content.php?COID=24 Both are better looking than Jamo & i can 200% guarantee you it sounds better. btw, spend a bit more on a good bluray or DVD player. Sometimes the source equipment contributes to the overall cinematic effects as well. But of coz if u have cash to spare, get the B&W speakers...... Cheers
