  1. Firstly, congratulations to everyone who has purchased their proper 5.1/7.1 HTS. Do enjoy your set up & post some pictures here. In case anyone has got the upgrade itch or being poisoned by audiophiles, let me propose & suggest a more sophiscated system in your next upgrade. Cheers
  2. Its better to go with what your eyes see. Sight is subjective. Everything still boils down to one's budget. Cheers
  3. Bro Congrats. The OPPO BDP80 will worth a million dollars in your inventory. Your set up is already more than any entry level. Cheers
  4. Hi You should be allocating more budget for the living room rather than the bedroom. If you like compact speakers, try the Kef satelitte series, Klipsch or Energy. if Bose is your thing, then go for it. Cheers
  5. Those who wants to get an xtremely good 5 star Blu ray player, there's a MO started for the OPPO-BDP80 Bluray player here http://www.xtremeplace.com/yabbse/index.ph...pic=71312.0;all Its multi region for both DVD & BRs. Promo price is only at $588. It plays SACD as well. Review is here http://www.audioholics.com/reviews/transpo...rsal-first-look In terms on picture quality, it beats any current BR player at this price range a few notches down. Cheers
  6. Not afraid company go bust? Then deposit how? cheers
  7. Dont upset the wife. The Velo 8Q is a pretty solid performer, though i would recommend the PB12. Cheers
  8. Guys Cable management get help from Audio shop & work towards your budget. Avoid using your contractors recommendation. Cheers
  9. Yep. 2-3K can get you a decent set up. 5 speakers + 1 sub + 1 receiver plus cables. Shops @ Adelphi - try KEC & look only for Clarence or Alan. Most brothers in this forum have bought the DefTech + velodyne sub as their set up. their receivers are mostly Denon. Do try the Onkyo or Yamaha receivers for comparison. Heard Babel might be exchange for Huntelaar of AC Milan. Sounds like a good partnership for El nino. Cheers
  10. Yes. Sadly Ive been a long suffering Red fan. Back to HTS. Yes, you can order the speakers 1st but no need to physically take them. Lay out the cables 1st (Im assuming youre not using wireless rear speakers) before doing L box. Your contractor would know what to do. If he doesnt, then he's inexperienced. There's just 2 cables "falling out from the back wall. The L & R rear speaker. Dont fret as it common. You can mount the rear speakers closer to the ceiling. No worries as the speakers can be tilted downwards. http://www.xtremeplace.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=27134.570 Check this thread out for illustration. And welcome to the Hi Fi world. Cheers
  11. Normal cables would suffice. I rather you get them from the hi-fi shop rather from the contractor. Contractors normally give you the skinny black & red ones. Pay a bit more for a better cable since the cables will forever be stuck in the ceiling. A good speaker cable is about S$1.50 per metre. Cheers
  12. El Nino Torres Power plug is only to receiver. Front L&R, back L&R & center speakers cables using receiver. What i did was to lay cable across ceiling BEFORE laying up false ceiling. Or you can run along the cornices if one is doing light box. Get your contractor to do it. measure the cables & make sure you have more allowance just in case. For Rear speakers, you still need power cable unless they run of batteries. Cheers
  13. Go to Adelphi to audition with your budget. As for wireless rear - I rather you ditch them than to have them. You still need power plug & cable to drive them, no? cheers
  14. Maybe Im a slow learner. Then again, that's me. Cheers
  15. Monitor Audio http://www.monitoraudio.co.uk/products/gold-gs Elac I wont recommend unless you have $4-$5K to burn for a pair of speakers. Btw, do u have a budget? I could advice better with a given budget. Kindly dont use the phrase "as low as possible" hor Thks & cheers
  16. Let me find out your preference. You said "I seldom play DVDs or Audio CDs". Then why would you want to get a soundbar for? MaybeI could suggest you could get a simple 2.1 or 3.1 system (Front L&R + center + sub) or (Front L&R + sub) 8 bit, 16bit & 24bit is only u have a good CD player & yes, the sound is quite distinct. How about Elac speakers? Or Monitor Audio? Very good 2.1/3.1. Really, for that money you intend to spend on soundbar, I rather advice you to get my suggested set up. And yes, if there's no need for rear speakers, one can do without. Cheers
  17. Bro Looking at your investment, u do really need a good HTS to compliment your BD60 & the superb Pana G11. Cmon, watching BR with TV sound is only 10% of what youre really getting from a proper 5.1 set up. CNY is coming. Wow your family. Go for it!!! Cheers
  18. I wont use the word "sharp" It should be bright. Def Tech speakers tend to be on the bright side unlike Wharfedale or B&W which are warmer. As for the receivers, its best to audition them. I would prefer the Onkyo to the denon as its specs are more adequate & futured-proof plus Onkyos tend to be warmer. Again, its my own opinion. Do audition & confirm your preference after listening to your preferred receivers. Cheers
  19. How are you going to change your living room layout to optimize soundbar performance? There's no way soundbar can produce the distinct audio coming out from a 5.1/7.1 set up. What you get is noise clutter from a sounbar. I think the cable clutter is the least of your concerns. And mind you, soundbars are not exactly cheap. Cheers
  20. Bro Do audition the Onkyo 707 or Yamaha 1065. I will surely vouch for Onkyo. The Denon set up manual is a nightmare. For those who bought Denon, all the best in your set up. Cheers
  21. Have fun with your new toy & prepare to blow yourself away!!! Dont blow your neighbor away though. Congrats to those who have purchased their 5.1/7.1 proper Home Theater System. Now what you have to do is to get a better Bluray player to compliment your system. Maybe in the long run, get a dedicated CD player for music listening. Cheers
  22. Bro My personal advice. If youre upgrading all your Front & Center speakers, you should upgrade your receiver as well. The Denon 1910 is a bit under power for performance. Try the Denon 2310 or the Onkyo 707 or maybe the yamaha 1065. Dont listen what the salesman says. Ive tried using a under powered receiver for my B&W once, & the performance sux until I got a more powered matching receiver. Cheers
  23. Please audition both SVS & Velo sub. If you have the money & space, go for SVS. Rear speakers mounting depends on speaker size. Sanus bracket is good. Kindly use the Calibration Function of your receiver to optimize the audio. Its all in the manual & have fun playing with your new toy. Cheers
  24. Yes. Its a matter of mix & match. MS genie cost around that price range. Cheers
  25. Bro Not many people can "hear" the difference in the frequency response. Certainly not with Def Tech speakers. Again its a question of $600 more to spend wisely. Dont be fooled by the specs unless its very evident of the performance. The $600 savings can be spent on a good Bluray player. Cheers
