  1. Have you considered changing the wooden doors to mesh doors? This will allow heat to escape from the closet and signals from router won't be blocked. The mesh should hide whatever is inside the closet sufficiently.
  2. In Singapore, there are a few shops that sell murphy bed: Smootree, Spaceman, HiddenWallBed, HiddenBed plus Space Saving Furniture System which has a revamped site (http://www.space-savingfs.com/) where the prices of some lower-end models are comparable to normal beds.
  3. I'm thinking along the same lines as you. A coffee table serves no purpose other than take up precious space in the living/dining room. If one is getting entertainment mainly from the PC, then TV and console may not be necessary. Will your refrigerator, washing machine and dryer be built into your blum kitchen cabinet?
  4. I got a special housing grant (SHG) of $2,500 so I am lucky compared to those who didn't get any grant. Definitely not complaining but my jaws dropped when I realised that the SHG ceiling has been raised to $4,250 and applicants in my salary bracket now get an additional $10K grant. But as lildot rightfully points out competition in futures BTOs will be getting more fierce so I am not regretting applying for BTO last year instead of now.
  5. Not sure how you guys are going to take this news, it seems that singles applying for the forthcoming Sep 2015 BTO will enjoy much higher housing grants. http://www.hdb.gov.sg/fi10/fi10297p.nsf/ImageView/CORPORATE_PR_24082015_ANNEX%20C/$file/ANNEX+C.pdf
  6. lidot - Welcome to this forum. The BTO progress pics at the ownhome site are much better than the ones at the HDB site.
  7. Hi andotang Add me to your growing list of followers. It's good you have concrete ideas on the design for your flat. The bigger the toilet window, the easier it is for "fumes" to escape.
  8. MsBunny - Certain parts of the press release got me confused too! Taking note of the placement of the "viz" in the statement, the 4 categories of new applicants sited should only refer to the elderly who were previously not eligible for studio apartments. HDB knows there wiil be concerns about the increased pool of eligible applications, that's why they are assuring us that there will be adequate supply in the next 5 years. Currently SAs are located at the town centre. Since 2 room flats and SAs are now the same, I wonder if singles will be allowed to apply for BTO in mature estates? Has anyone seen this new blog? http://www.renotalk.com/forum/topic/72213-2-room-bto-themeless-with-philips-hue-lighting/
  9. MsBunny - I think the shorter lease is offered to Singapore citizens who are aged 55 or above only. With these changes, the pool of people eligible for the short-lease flats will be larger than those eligible for studio apartments. http://www.hdb.gov.sg/fi10/fi10296p.nsf/PressReleases/0FA9E359E68FFE2348257EA600232A7A?OpenDocument http://www.hdb.gov.sg/fi10/fi10297p.nsf/ImageView/CORPORATE_PR19082015_Annex%20A/$file/Annex+A.pdf
  10. paulinepoh - Welcome to the forum. If you intend to convert your household shelter into a wardrobe, be aware of HDB's restrictions, there are so many! (http://www.hdb.gov.sg/fi10/fi10324p.nsf/w/HomeRenoGuidelinesBuilding?OpenDocument#HS). For example, nothing can be nailed to the internal walls, so shelves have to be stand-alone. varying - Thanks for updating us on the vinyl floor cost. Waiting to see how the ceramic tiles in my BTO turns out but deciding on the vinyl.
  11. MsBunny - Maybe you consider vinyl tiles or strips to refresh your door.
  12. I wonder how low the prices on Amazon are compared to other online sites.
  13. xdarrenx - varying is the one with the completed flat. From the pictures posted, she has vinyl flooring in the living room and bed room.
  14. varying - Must be so exciting. I hope you get good neighbours. - I hope HDB replaced the gate for free. Ms. Bunny - You can also consider splitting your wardrobe into two like in the picture below. - The pre-mix cement will cost more but at least it will deter unscrupulous contractors from using sub-par materials on your floor.
  15. Varying - Thanks so much for the photos. I just realised that you had the cloths drying rack removed. I will probably do the same - not practical to air-dry clothes in that small kitchen. Coolbunny - I think HDB won't allow hacking of toilet wall & floor tiles within 3 years of block completion. Only overlay is allowed. - Based on my floorplan, my bedroom interior will measure 3.3m by 2.8m. I intend to put my 2m bed length-wise against the 3.3m wall. This leaves 1.3m for a decent sized wardrobe. If I really need more closet space, I can build up (like in the picture below)
  16. MsBunny: I'm not too excited about the free transport on National Day anymore. POSB is offering cashback for bus & MRT trips on Fridays till year-end. Gonna save $$$ for my flat. http://www.posb.com.sg/personal/promotion/posb-fare-free-friday?pid=sg-posb-vanity-cards-farefreefriday
  17. Looking at the floorplan and pictures, I just realised that varying's living room doesn't have a household shelter. That's why there is space for the lovely brown cabinets next to the front door and partition cupboard. My unit will have a household shelter which I rather not have if I have a choice.
  18. MsBunny - I follow their channel mostly for the BTO stuff but I don't recall anything about their wardrobe in previous postings. As for Stolmen, I personally won't use it as clothes can get dusty out in the open and the fibreboard shelves can sag after a while.
  19. MsBunny - Even owners of bigger flats are lamenting how small everything is. Varying - You are the first to "graduate". Congrats. We would love to see pics of your kitchen and especially the bathroom.
  20. Come across 2 interesting posts on Youtube. In the first post at 0:42, the shower is set up at the bathroom corner next to the kitchen entrance. With this configuration, it's easier to set up a shower kerb and screen. The second post offers some practical tips for BTOers.
  21. Anyone plan to take advantage of free transport on National Day to source for furniture and decor ideas?
  22. Love the brainstorming about space-saving furniture. I was considering installing the Poppi Board (from Italian furniture company Clei) in my bedroom through local distributor Smootree. Gave up when I realised how expensive it could be.
  23. ryanyth - Don't worry too much about the tracks, I am sure the IDs have a quick & cheap solution for that. If you happen to walk pass any ID firm, just walk in and ask the IDs about it. Your 35 sqm flat has some good features over my 45 sqm flat: That nice corner shower in the bathroom and squarish kitchen, you can actually install a L-shaped counter here. Your building contractor could eventually install doors with tracks on the ceiling only. What we see in the showroom flats are an approximation.
  24. I went for the optional component mainly cos I can use my CPF-OA. Not too crazy with the samples on shown at the HDB Hub either. I intend to use "snap-on" laminate or "paste-on" vinyl flooring for the living room and bedroom if I wind up detesting the ceramaic titles installed in my flat. Having a digital lock and grill-door combo will make trips to the common refuse & recycling chutes more convenient. Personally, I will allocate my limited budget to the flat interiors and change the door & grill at a later date. Found a studio apartment kitchen in renotalk that I really liked although it seems wider than the 45sqm 2-room kitchen.
  25. Hi Everyone, especially the newcomers Sorry about the link in my earlier post. Just delete the extra characters “.%C2%A0” at the end of the address and you should be able to see the shoe cabinet pics. ryanyth - It’s never too early to start preparing and saving money for your new home. If you intend to remove the sliding door, you should also consider filling up the ugly floor tracks. mmoh - This is just what I’m looking. Hope this course is still around closer to my key collection date & we can use our SkillsFuture Credits. PA & ITE don’t seem to have such courses. I need to buy those Daiso extension rods. rainbow1979 - I will seal one of doors to maximise bathroom space too. As I pro-soak and handwash some of my clothes, I will leave the kitchen-bathroom entrance alone. HDB has strict rules about bathtubs, I think only ready-made fibreglass ones are allowed. BunniBoi - Hidden Wall Bed seems sturdy enough . With that number, 99% sure to get the unit you want cos there will be people who drop out . The optional component type & quality differs between BTOs, depending on what your appointed building contractor installs. It’s the luck of the draw. If your optional components is of good quality and fits your design aesthetics, you will save some money on renovation. I personally opted for all the optional components cos it is easier to get HDB to rectify any defects.
