  1. We are good with that and birds will be a non issue since the windows are inside of the void space in the service balcony in unit versus windows which are at the front So risk of birds thru the windows will be much higher
  2. Haha we will be hanging some potted plants to prevent this from happening. Thanks for bringing it up haha
  3. Week 3 Day 4 Updates More work continues to get completed under the supervision and update from my ID and she has been visiting site daily so far as it seems or whenever a new area is being done she will go over to hand the correct instructions down and I'd received daily updates on work being done. Today the common bath shower feature wall is done up and the levelling of the flooring is done up for the extended area of our walk in wardrobe into the service balcony. We went hunting for lights today and in the midst of it realize something about light hunting in Singapore and Balestier as a whole. Will comment on that in my next post. So here are some pics for the day: Common Shower Featured Wall Fuzzy eh? Well we didn't expect this and went WHOA! when we got it as well but we trust our ID so we are going with this and see how it turns out... Window Seal Tiled Up Living on the highest level we decided to leave our shower window blank and raw to achieve the airy effect rather than building a vacuum fan or windows for this area. We want it to be well ventilated so we do like the effect and how big and wide the bathroom windows are for our unit. Walk In Wardrobe Levelling Levelling the flooring to show the extended wardrobe space ID has catered for us in our walk in wardrobe area. Hope the progress is fast enough for our work to be completed. Fingers crossed. Glad to see word is done daily and progressing and tiling and wet works is definately something you can't rush and don't want to rush and have to come back and redo it after.
  4. Nice bro the effect comes out well. Looks and feel like raw wood from the pic. All is coming together nicely. In the midst of updating mine Tblog now too
  5. Another Day Gone By Kitchen wall is fully built up today with MBR bathroom floor tiles and Common Toilet feature wall tiles going up. Kitchen Wall Fully Up MBR Bath Flooring Common Toilet Wall Tiles
  6. With time the color of the screed will change but otherwise its ok and you have to accept hairline cracks appearing which does come with painted walls as well anyway. But we like the look and feel to it.
  7. Beginning of Week 3 It's the start of the week and while everyone is suffering from our Monday blues, glad to know ID and team are at work on our project. ID went up to our unit and provided us with some updated pictures. Main work completed today are water proofing of the wet areas like shower and outdoor yard we created and erecting of the kitchen concrete wall to seal off the bathroom from the new kitchen area. Kitchen Wall Build Up Front View Back View The flooring area which is hacked off will be making way for an extension of our walk in wardrobe area after levelling the curb to create more space for our bath and wardrobe in the otherwise really small space. Outdoor Area Yard Because of the wonderful design from HDB to situated the main rubbish chute in the service balcony, we decided to put up a panel to separate my home office and a small little outdoor yard where kids can go have fun and serve as a wet area as well. The waterproofing area is where the outdoor yard will be and the tiled area will be the start of my home office space. Well I can't possible smell the chute while working in my room every night right . Common Toilet Cement Screed & Waterproofing We are using a smooth cement screen wall for this common toilet on the second level with only the shower cubicle area spotting a feature wall. Next up will be flooding these areas to test the water proofing layer done today.
  8. Thank you. Very daring indeed by us but was created out of our needs and living habits with our kids. So well why not we thought:)
  9. Well it's been a blessing so far and every issue or concern we raised has been acted on very efficiently.Being clipped in between client and supplier is never easy but she's definately handled it very well. Return to us today with over 5 different quotes from both her plumbers and also 3 others from online sites. This allows us to have a much better accurate informed decision. Hope it keeps going this way. Fingers crossed
  10. Thanks still excited and waiting to see more progress and things actually taking shape
  11. End of Week 2 Updates The process is still slow at this stage as the hacking is over for Week 1 which was effectively just 3 days. So this whole week was dedicated to the tiler electrician and AC guys to work as a team. The tiler came in to begin making good the walls after the hacking and cement screed the bathrooms to prepare for tiling purpose. Sealed 2nd Level Bathroom Entrace Sealed Entrance View from Inside The Bathroom Walls Cement Screed to Make Good MBR Shower Area Wall Tiles Front View MBR Shower Side View (Shower Panel Side) Kitchen Sink Position Will be erecting the wall up next week after this piping is set in to separate the MBR Shower and walk in wardrobe area and the kitchen. Very glad to hear that tiler told ID the pipe has a lot of debris from the previous owner and is almost choke and ID took initiative to contact her plumber to clear the chockage FOC. Whew... Received the plumbing quote today and felt it was on the high side for the amount of work I need to get done. Inform ID about this issue and by evening found out that she has after that seek a quote from their 2nd plumber which came back lower and also she went online to search out a plumbing company and submit for a quote to see if there is a stark difference. This has left us impressed with the little gesture and the extra mile she takes to ensure perfection and customer satisfaction. Not much to complain about as responsibility is something you seek out of an ID you give the job with but does not come with a guarantee. So really thankful for our choice. Hoping next week will have more to go with and see. But its still a week for the tiler. Trying to decide up our taps and shower heads and lights for next week as well.
  12. Bro, did your electrical quotes come with the colored switches or you have to pay extra for them?
  13. Thats great to know since we have the same ID keke. Yup all ID team too after realizing her team has pretty decent and market price rates being offered for the job. So with no significant savings it helps to let them have their team and minimize their coordination headaches and produce a better end result for us as clients.. Never met the plumber yet too and not even had his quote yet as well
  14. very interesting. Well a home what the person living in it loves and envisions it to be...Congrats and eagerly awaiting to see how it turns out...
  15. Congrats seems to be in good order. I'm guessing you are using the all ID team? This is important for them to have their team to facilitate easy coordination on this part and willingness to work with each party since they are already familiar with each other. Else sure clash and fight over who first who waits..
  16. Nice tiffany hanging lights... Craft stone for back splash...wow have you considered the cleaning aspect of the uneven surface? But if you seldom cook then it is not as big a concern.
  17. Coming along nicely bro...can see ID is pretty detailed with the lighting set of choice as well
  18. More Updates Just uploading some pics our ID sent us today. Common Bathroom Entrance We decided to hack off the original door frame as we figures this short little "tunnel" won't be used much if door in inside the inlet so decided to push the door outwards instead. Ouch as I realized only after I need to spend some money on a new door frame and maybe some extra on material to cover up the void area on top of the door frame as well to ceiling. Common Bath Interior The most loved about this area is the big window space this unit offers and we intend to leave them empty as you see now with no window frame built over. So just cement screed patch and then ID will lay tiles over it. We decided to go with this look after seeing some other homes using this concept as well for the bathroom windows. We are also thankful the pipes are situated at the corners of this space after hacking the 2 bath into 1. Whew...but well the bottom part of these pipes oh well its a mess. MBR Shower Area The void here will be covered by our glass panel for the shower screen and the half height column is kept this way so we can mouth our vanity top over a solid backing instead of over the shower screen glass panel which will not be strong enough. Kitchen & Walk In Wardrobe Divider Time to erect a wall between the empty space you see here to divide the kitchen space and our new walk in wardrobe with the shower area. So we will be erecting up a wall to separate the original layout of the kitchen with common bath. Received our electrical re-wiring quote today and to our surprise came in very reasonable from our ID chosen electrical team and company. We submitted our counter offer and pending their acceptance. Hope they will accept and we can then offer our ID her "dream team" and without hurting our pockets as well. Kudos to our ID as she has gone beyond her scope to even help us negotiate with her suppliers in AC guy and electrician to ensure she helps us get better prices from them. We told her to work some magic for us in terms of the quote being given to us and so far her magic seems to work and we are thankful. We must also admit we are left very impress by the workaholic ID we have who surprised us last week with a text at 145am telling us she has just completed the wiring and lighting plans for the house so we can begin purchasing our lights and hunt for them. This is because earlier in the day I text her asking for the lighting plan as I would like to begin hunting for lights to be able to get the best prices. Was expecting today instead but she delivered same day results albeit past MN. Impressed indeed. Been a real pleasure so far working with her and hope things continue to move smoothly ahead...
  19. New Updates Our hacking job is complete last week and hauling was done over Friday which we made a trip down and was surprise to see a team of about 6-8 workers at our place itself finishing up and hauling the wreckage done. (Sorry to any of my neighbours) It's a new week and today the tiler team goes in to assist us in smoothing out the walls after the wreck and discussing the laying of of tiles for our shower feature wall in both bathrooms and the common bathroom flooring. As we are opting to overlay with vinyl for all other areas so this is really the little tiles that will appear in our new place . Oh yes of course the kitchen backsplash too. The decision of the feature shower wall with our hexagonal tiles has been decided: Common Bathroom Shower A color tone play with the color contrast of the wood color floor tiles to bring out the effect. ID decided to lay the tiles with the pointed edges facing the top & bottom to make the space we have look higher. So we are good with her suggestion which have never disappointed us so far. MBR Bathroom Shower Wall Going with a cleaner color tone with the MBR shower wall to compliment the vinyl flooring outside of shower area which is our walk in wardrobe area as well. Will be meeting up with ID tomorrow on site to discuss certain changes to original plan and excited to see the changes as our original idea to roof our service balcony may now be tweaked to create a "glass window" over the roofing with transparent tiles and left unboxed with false ceiling to achieve a "green house" effect to the area. Our original idea to use glass or acrylic to roof is thrown off because HDB apparently approves nothing now but the red tiled roofs. All others will have their permits rejected so in bid to fit time schedule we worked around it and decided not to take the risk and perhaps save some money on PE as well.
  20. Hi Five! Let's hope the effect turns out well. We went with this as an alternative suggestion from our ID instead of the usual white we wanted. No subway tiles for us cos too much grout lines and cleaning will be cumbersome.
  21. Thanks for dropping by:) Well did as much as I can when we decided on the purchase of our new place till now. So still very Noob compared to other old birds in here. Lots more to learn...
