Wth. That sucks. Can I ask though, what made you choose him at the beginning? Were these issues that were obvious from the start? Cos I met a very noob ID also, and he's been seriously pushy about asking us to be his client. But he also cannot make it la. More on it on my blog, if you wanna know. Sorry to hear about the sucky experience! Fa, thisbtotrendmustdie.wordpress.com

Loving the colours of the entire home. I like that they all blend nicely together. Btw, I noticed you're using mostly subway tiles for your kitchen. Is that costly? Am planning to do it for my bathrooms but scared they'll be too expensive for many walls instead of just one feature wall eg just for backsplash. Fa, thisbtotrendmustdie.wordpress.com

Our Yishun Greenwalk 5-Room Simple Simple Reno Journey

Love these lights! Hope they go well with the whole look. They remind me of the ones you see at Swensen's haha. Fa, thisbtotrendmustdie.wordpress.com -
Wow. Really sorry to hear that. I thought the whole point of getting an ID is to give peace of mind and not having to monitor the renovation progress. Sounds like this guy isn't making your work any easier. Do share with us what happened even if you don't wish to disclose the ID. Think bad work needs to be publicised as much as good work. DUDE. You just articulated how I feel about laminate cabinets. They're one of the reasons my blog exists. I too would go for real hard wood as much as possible. And no matter how persistent an ID is about using laminates cos they last longer, are cheaper blablabla...resist it! You seem to have a keen sense of taste. The purists at Renotalk hope you'll put that to good use. Fa, thisbtotrendmustdie.wordpress.com

Great look so far! Most people get carried away with the Scandinavian look. I think this is tastefully done. Fa, thisbtotrendmustdie.wordpress.com- 44 replies

LOL. Actually, you're not the first homeowner to say that. Don't worry lah, it doesn't matter what I or other people think. Just design how you want. If featured, still publicity =P Fa, thisbtotrendmustdie.wordpress.com

Came here to say THOSE TILES ARE AMAZING. Have fun picking the furniture too - "industrial" doesn't always have to mean crates and barrels. Fa, thisbtotrendmustdie.wordpress.com

Classic European & American Mixed Home

TELL ME ABOUT IT. I'm on a personal quest to get ppl on this forum to not follow these cookie-cutter trends - and, if they absolutely must, to at least make it their own with some design touches. Anyway, I'm on board with this look. Feels really classy and timeless. All the best to you both with your respective homes! Fa, thisbtotrendmustdie.wordpress.com -
Congrats on your new home! Just a tip: don't worry too much about trends and getting the right look to fit a certain theme. Take what works and always plan storage, lights and allocate space for different functions. Be honest and upfront with what you like/don't like with your ID - don't let them force you into adding horrid fixtures just so it'll be good for their portfolio, but an eyesore for you. All the best! Fa, thisbtotrendmustdie.wordpress.com

Be careful about planning space especially for the dining area - HDB layouts are deceptively optimistic! I'd use an extendable dining table and stackable stools for extra guests when you have people over, but when it's just gonna be your and your partner, you can stow the extra stools away and retract the table to just fit 4 people. Too many chairs at the dining table but cause clutter at the entrance of your home. And make sure you get as much light as possible - a glass wall between the kitchen and dining area will open up the space even more. Fa, thisbtotrendmustdie.wordpress.com

Minimalist Interior Designs
zngmybto replied to MarcoChan's topic in RENOVATION IDEAS: Interior Design Themes, Space Planning
IDs nowadays think all they need is a checkbox and as long as they've ticked off everything, they've achieved that look. The minimalist approach requires a very disciplined understanding that less is more; no visible wiring, trunking of any sort; functional, beautiful but sleek furniture; some light woods and simple greens to give a bit of warmth. Grey, white and black is a decent palette so start with. I personally like Dwell and Apartment Therapy for design inspiration - they know how to make a house look lived in and mix and match looks quite nicely. Also I've seen 3D Conceptwerke's work (however you spell that weird company name) and they seem to know their stuff, based on what I saw on the latest Lookbox Living magazine. Maybe you can check them out. Fa, thisbtotrendmustdie.wordpress.com -
Nice! Your sentiments about design are very similar to mine - especially the dark-coloured floors cos I shed hair like nobody's business too, much to my husband's dismay lol. Blinds and sufficient work space in the kitchen are a must too. Looking forward to seeing any photos which reflect your dream design. Share with us here! Fa, thisbtotrendmustdie.wordpress.com

Vintage Themed Suggestion
zngmybto replied to sess's topic in RENOVATION IDEAS: Interior Design Themes, Space Planning
Try not to go too retro or vintage. You'll want a timeless look that pays homage to the flat's humble beginnings. Go with wood cabinets in their natural colour, a plain, neutral backsplash if you want the floors to shine. Play with colour via accessories and appliances, like colourful plates or bowls, chalkboard sign, or even those very cool delonghi toasters if you want to splurge. The key is to keep your bases classic. Don't go overboard with the trends! Fa, thisbtotrendmustdie.wordpress.com -
Lighting In General
zngmybto replied to CBurns's topic in RENOVATION IDEAS: Interior Design Themes, Space Planning
I don't think you should limit yourself to only those two options. What about standing or table lamps for a more homely feel? Track lights for the art gallery feel? It really depends on the sort of look you want to achieve - whether yellow or white light, to provide general lighting or spotlight on a feature wall, etc. I agree that pendant lights can work well for a dining area because it gives you the illusion of height and also allows you to play with texture and colour. I would plan my spaces first and decide on what I want to do with each area, then plan the types of lights to go with it. For me, white lights are a no-no because they are soo depressing. Fa, thisbtotrendmustdie.wordpress.com -
Your theme is great, and works well within a small area. I wouldn't go for trendy things like barnyard doors - stick to timeless scandinavian features like light wood, natural, earthy colours. You'd be surprised how plants can add a pop of colour! Fa, thisbtotrendmustdie.wordpress.com
