hi neighbours, my patience has reached its limit. ------------------------------------------ pardon my let-off steam post. ------------------------------------------ a week ago, i asked my ID. "Do I need to take leave to show you the defects?" ID said, " better take leave as one morning may not have enough time" Me:"Fine, I take leave but can you arrange people to do up my flat since I will be staying there for whole day." ID said: " I try." ---------------------------------------------------------------------- (a few calls to ID, didn't pick up-maybe he is busy, maybe he is using hicard) To minimise time wastage, I took photographs of all the defects, afraid that he don't understand or can't see clearly, I even took time to do caption for every photo for the location and the type of defect. Emailed the photos to him a week ago, so that he can see the defects before hand and arrange the suitable workers to come down today. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- called him two days ago to even double confirmed with him so that I won't experience missing act. he told me that there will be 3 sets of workers coming today. 1) Carpentry workers to do touch up 2) Tiler to do up the uneven tiles 3) Plumber to install my heaters and choke pipes. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- having high expectation that most things can be done today. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 10.30 am:carpentry workers came (when agreed with ID that the meeting is 1130) I rushed down in cab, open door for them. 11.30 am: ID came. Look at the defects. 11.30 am: Carpenter told us a) carpenter in-charge bought the wrong laminate, cannot do. b) Never bring ladder, cannot climb up to fix wardrobe c) Never bring sand paper, so cannot this, cannot that. d) Replaced door is shorter by 2mm, slanted problem still exist. (Pardon me for saying, I thought these are tools that a carpenter supposed to bring??) they left at 12.30pm after realising nothing can be done w/o these tools. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- My face is still smiling, I told them I took leave the whole day just for you to start work, you do whatever u can? Carpenter's ans: my tools are in Malaysia. ID step in to ask them buy ladder from TPY shop, they refused. And they left for the day. Forgetful is their middle name, I wonder what good does it do to them to travel to and fro like that? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Then I asked ID, when will plumber come since carpentry side cannot do anything. so ID called up plumber.... thanks redcrystal for the boxes. 5 is enough for me, more i also cannot carry.haha.. anywa i also duno when then i can move. zzz thanks meowie,meepok and babymaro to lend their pairs of eyes and the ears. they heard what my dear carpenter said. well, appreciated that they came over to work from 9.30pm to 11pm. (when they called me to meet at 8pm? -pun intended- I lost trust in their timing, i left office at 8pm, took a cab, eat slowly, get boxes from redcrystal, then slowly walk back to my house. guess what, they didnt come at 8pm but 9.30pm. if I took a cab before 8pm, didn't eat, i think i will be very angry. -save my energy- they came and started installing, I guess maybe they dont want to come back tmr if they can finish the work tonight, alas! the changed door has a new set of problem. and dear carpenter wants me to ____________________ I will fill in the blank tmr. -am I too nice?- -do i have a choice?- -_-

looks like this sort of carpentry problem is common, my kitchen cabinet also face the same thing, can see the brown wood underneath the white PVC

the reasons are ur ID cited are in my opinion means to save the trouble of changing. why? (1) The gap in between the tiles would be worse and the ends will not meet. (THIS ONE IS ON WORKMANSHIP SKILL, I guess his tiler not confident) (2) Need additional new tiles which he has to order and may delay the handover (Let me give u some info, all these while as much as I felt unhappy with my reno, my id replaced the TILES WITH NO REASONING, Kudos to him, 22 hollow tiles, tiler took one whole day to hack and replaced. -I am saying from 1030 am to 7.30pm, if delay also won't take too long.) (3) Different shipment of tiles means possibility of different shades for the tiles cos colour of tiles may differ slightly with different shipment. (Neighbour, ID/tiler can see the tile before laying. he havent even try ordering, what colour is ur tiles? cream, white or other speacial colour) for my case, it is hollow tiles, so have to change. got elderly at home,cant wait till 5 years to see it popping. when it pops, it is not one pcs, but the whole stretch. tiler assured me . won't pop one..etc... I rather not take the risk. for punggol flats prenium flat, it did pop. and HDB is giving the resident $150 per day to allow them to shift somewhere when HDB lay tiles. for e.g if HDB take 4 days to replace the tiles, HDB will pay $150 x 4 to the resident. and HDB will do very fast cos they dun want to pay so much to resident. for us, where can we turn to? the pop up is not like will happen in 1-2 yr but 5 years, all warranty on whatever contract would have cease. I don't dare to count on my tiler to come back to repair then. with all the inconvenience to shift ur furniture and the mental stress. eeeww...so given a choice, I rather choose uneven tiles, unsightly but safer than pop up tiles. Toppie, u come and see my house uneven section and I see urs lah. maybe urs is a little uneven only. =) cheers.

an update: went to mee pok's recommended poh joo shop. saw the joven heater. the salesgal want to sell me $100 I wanted to buy anyway but went over to the hawker to eat 1st before buying. the twist is, i walked into a shop. the one that is near hoe kee. they sell a wide range of instant heaters. so I went in to see see look look. seller tells me the diff between storage, gas and electric heater. i decided to give up on my kitchen mixer. (bad miscomm. sigh) went for instant heater, bought the $100 instant heater (same as my old house, quite reliable since this model/brand works for 3-4 yrs already and still working) and another one at $168 (made in singapore, 5 yrs warranty) gave a call to my ID, just wanted to let him know I have bought the instant heaters and wanted him to arrange plumbers to install in. to my dismay, he hanged up on me. =( he told me he is in a midst of meeting. I told him it is a short one. (as I am still in the shop) He still hung up. (what did I do to deserve this?) will ID treat client like that before they sign contract? anyway, anger aside. to be continued.

Hi hana, my hollow tiles are being replaced, hence if u want to hear hollow tiles, not much, but a word of caution for replacing tiles, my tiler didnt do a good job, now replaced tiles are rather uneven. u can come and see uneven tiles on thurs if u want before they rectify.(That is if they rectify). =) cheers

you really need to do lots of homework to know the market rpcing, if not u will get chop carrot.
