  1. I have withdrawn my reply which I think it is not appropriate to comment anything.
  2. It is best to remove the paintwork on the existing wall before applying plaster. Smooth wall with paint is not advisable to plaster. After a few years, the plaster will crack and thin layer of plaster will detached from the wall.
  3. This is quite common. Your contractor would be able to get the workman to use a trowel and sand paper to make it smooth.
  4. Why must go thru ID for such a simple job? Some ID mark-up very high and he outsource the job to an HDB License Contractor.
  5. Discuss with your ID and work out a solution. BTW, is the 13A electrical socket looks unique.
  6. I am not too sure whether it is possible to hack off the ceramic skirting. Please discuss with your ID or contractor. I know that after spending so much on renovation and I can understand that it is very energy draining to see the work not up to your expectation I hope the contactor can do something to make it look better especially the uneven and wavy areas.
  7. Wood skirting would be nice. Wood will not look thick and it comes in long plank. Ceramic skirting look thick because it needs cement to bond it to the wall.
  8. Please post your rectification work with more details such as floor area, material to replace the current flooring and etc. Without proper details, it is very hard to estimate the cost.
  9. All the uncles who are skilled in terrazzo and broken marble during the 1970s and 80s have already retired from the trade long long time ago. If you have some contacts, maybe can get one from Johor Bahru. Happy hunting and all the best!
  10. It is important to instant the water heater as according to the specification of the manufacturer. The circuit has to be a direct line from the DB or Consumer Box, 20A double pole switch should be outside the bathroom and a junction 20A junction box in the bathroom. Install the instant water with a Flexible 2.5mm 50/0.25 cable and make sure it is earthed. For added safety, it is best to choose those model with a built-in RCCB or ELB and of course every house already has RCCB 30mA at the DB Box. This just an added protection in case the 30mA RCCB at the DB Box failed to work.
  11. You need to buy a better bracket from Jalan Besar area. Take out the old one and install the new one which can support the sink against the wall. Your present bracket is not so good. I have used it before and it can't hold the weight of the basin.
  12. Products are not the same in terms of scratch resistance, shrinkage and VOC. Get a sample from them and do a comparison. Happy Shopping.
  13. All bathroom should have these 10mA RCD protection.
  14. Add a dedicated RCD to the water heater circuit can offer more protection against any electricity leakage. Type 1, or 10mA, RCDs, seek to protect people in areas of increased risk such as circuits supplying bathrooms and outdoor equipment and for use in kindergartens or medical areas. They should stop a person from ‘locking on’ due to muscular contraction that occurs around the 10mA level of electric shock for adult males (or less for females and children) and should also protect vulnerable people with medical conditions and/or where metallic medical equipment has been introduced into the patient’s body The RCD at the Consumer Unit is Type 2, or 30mA, RCDs is not enough to protect from electricity shock as in wet area such as the bathroom.
  15. Not too sure of glass. I have seen many home with stainless steel panel which is more durable and easy to maintain.
  16. As for me I am using these wooden board as a base for my new fridge.
  17. No problem with the extension but it is quite expensive for a small job unless you can DIY yourself with cement and some tiles. The cheapest alternative would be using thick timber or plywood. For safety you need some ventilation at both side about 5cm.
  18. It all depend on how old is your flooring. If the workmanship is good and enough cement base, it should not popped up at all. It can last for at least more than 35 years or 45 years.
  19. You can wait for promotion during the exhibition at Expo for special price. They are the sole distributor and there is no dealer if I am not wrong.
  20. Drywall (also known as plasterboard, wallboard, gypsum panel, sheet rock, or gypsum board) is a panel made of calcium sulfate dihydrate (gypsum) with or without additives and normally pressed between a facer and a backer. It is used to make interior walls and ceilings. It is very common in HDB shop where owner will partition the a big shop into smaller unit. A false wall is an effective way to screen off an area from view. False walls are often used in high-end home entertainment systems, where they are used to install projection screens and to conceal speakers. However, a false wall can also be useful for obscuring plumbing pipes and electrical conduit in a laundry room or basement. Since the primary purpose of a false wall is to obscure an area from view, they do not need to be load-bearing, and are a bit simpler to construct than ordinary partition walls.
  21. I think your Laminate wood flooring gaps are caused by shrinkage. Vinyl flooring is better and very low in shrinkage problem.
  22. Just installed a new instant water heater for my neighbor after the old one broke down with a burned out capacitor. This model comes with built-in Earth Leakage Breaker for added safety.
  23. There might be some concern and worry about the safety of water heater in our home. The thought about the safety feature after reported cases of people got electrocuted. Type of water heater that offer more safety features such as storage or instant water heater to recommend. Do they need individual RCD for added protection against current leakage? Do they need periodical maintenance or checking by professionals? Join in the discussion here. Thanks.
