  1. Floorplan of our shack... ....and after collecting our keys, it was time to view the shack...and the first sight that greeted us...
  2. In the beginning, before renovations started... We patiently waited for the towers to rise... Finally they did! Nice to see my workers hard at work on my unit (at least 11 of them)... Next up, our shack...
  3. Sounds like you kena ripoff? You had better feedback to your ID, as brightness may differ quite a bit, and may affect your overall lighting (too dim?). Not sure if there is much diff in brightness between 10W and 13W though. If it is between a Philips or Osram 10W and 13W, maybe some diff in light intensity, but if it is between Philips or Osram 13W and some other brand 10W (e.g. Sakura), I dunno. Never heard of Sakura anyway (post a pic?). Most reliable shops are using Philips or Osram (but other known brands do exist). Finally, if your plc is meant for a 13W, not sure if it affects a 10W plc light's lifespan. Experts can advise on this...personally I would demand on 13W lights and Philips or Osram.
  4. that's interesting! never knew about that...all these names have me confused initially, but now I can understand the numbers better. thks for your input jtek! would be nice to have a set of pics of all the common lights and their codes, but difficult as camera settings have to be standardized. I managed to take that because one light shop along balestier had all three osram lights together, though one of the lights had a diffuser over it. to forumers, please do post if you have any good pics on the different light hues and the code and brand as well.
  5. For people (like me) who need visual guide on what is cool daylight (865), cool white (840) and warm white (827), here you go.
  6. Hi Cherry Me not an expert on fan, but are you looking for one that have the 'reversible control', or a ceiling fan that "can make the whole living room breezy", or both? I recently bought a Fanco Aroma 54", and it states on the box that there is a 3-speed reversible control. Haven't installed yet, so cannot comment on how good it is. Not cheap though...
  7. Nice kitchen lights ....may I know the name of the shop you got these from, and is it $$$? Urgently need to find two of these kitchen lights as lights will be installed next week...Thanks!
  8. Just a note on the Starhub activation (only for those who missed the activation period in Blk B; probably only me ). StarHub has assured that as long as you are going to sign up with them, the signal activation fee will be waived (which makes cents to me).
  9. I just called Starhub (68732828) and, to my surprise, the signal activation is only for certain blocks only (Blk A, C, and another block but can't remember). No 'free' activation for Blk B apparently. Now have to type a non-fiction story to StarHub to waive fee. No worries if your key collection date is after your block's activation period.
  10. Aiya! Nevermind thanks! Already PMed someone for the number to call. Apparently, the previous company (CT Electronics) is no longer in charge...
  11. Hi Babymaro2003 Thanks! Tomorrow I better check my mailbox and under-the-door....or have to call to check about my appointment. I guess the activation should be done from blk to blk. Anyone in blk B gotten the letter pls inform me? Thks!
  12. Hi meowie Just checked our unit today....no letter. Care to reveal the important details in the letter? Just in case we wait and wait for letter, then the StarHub free activation over liao...
  13. Do these look familiar/belong to you? Innovative but dangerous
  14. ...punks making a din at the 12th floor sky garden are students in uniform... white & dark blue... anyone knows which school?... Only way is to take photo or video, identify the school, then shoot letter to the school's principal, the NPP, and then (most important) Straits Time Forum (or largie better Wanbao with the colourful photos)... confirm you will see the principal (or the teacher) patrolling there at night...
  15. aiya joking only lah! Nice pics! Strange that there was no mention of fireworks; only knew about it through TVMobile while on the way home yesterday.... Anyway thanks for showing us your home that day....
  16. Wah you like that make us jealous, kiam pa! We know where you stay....wait till Liana sees these...
  17. Hi all This is regarding the StarHub letter (Activation of Broadband-ready signals) that was placed on all our doors. I called the office and the guy told me that this company, CT Electronics (Tel: 62678422), is in charge of Toa Payoh Central Blk 79. These guys from CT electronics are apparent still 'hanging' around Blk 79 and going around doing the activation and testing if the cable points in the unit is working. FYI, we saw our letter on the door last Saturday, but the scheduled appointment made by Starhub (stated in the letter) was a few days before that (we were at our unit the week before but no letter was there). Many may have missed their appointment I guess. Do remember to call for appointment; otherwise deadline over may incur charges.
  18. I think there's only two things we all can do: (1) Lock your gates no matter got anyone in the house or not; don't leave anything outside (unless you want the thief to help carry it away, like unwanted cardboards and empty paint cans...) (2) Put up notices at all life lobbies (and inside the lift) to inform residents-to-be (and those thieves as well) of such cases, and to lock their doors at all times, in all four languages. And have it endorsed by the Police (have them print a very very big Police logo on the notice, for the thief-to-be to see). (A bashed-up face of a apprehended 'thief' (with eyes blurred out) on an unofficial notice might also do the trick! Who wants to volunteer?) Not sure if it is HDB or police's job to do the posters. Perhaps it is time to email our MP. Also, the lower floor units (below the roof garden) are probably more susceptible to such thefts as the emergency staircases, with doors close, provides more cover for thieves as they can hide behind the doors without being easily seen.
  19. Same here! On weekends, wah liao! One after another. Each one with their "pi po pi po". One will go "Collecting old shirts and newspaper" in hokkien and then few seconds later "pi po". This one can tah han. Now got new generation garang kuni man. "pi-po-pi-po-pi-po-pi-po-pi-po" for few seconds. Then a few seconds no sound. Then "pi-po-pi-po-pi-po-pi-po-pi-po" for few seconds again....what is this!??? With regards to road noise, really nothing much can be done. But keeping some plants at the window (to block out the noise; maybe some hanging creepers so you can still see outside?) and around the house (to absorb remaining noise; potted plants) may help a bit as plants do absorb noise to a certain extend (also beautifies the place too!). Read here for basic information on plants and noise absorption.
  20. Actually that's what the Road Safety Park is for. Most cyclists do not realise that a bicyclist is actually considered a 'motorist' (only exception is not allowed on expressways), and when on the road one has to obey traffic rules (stop at red light, wave your hand to signal left/right turn, etc), though many do not (going against flow of traffic , pavement/road switching, cycling while talking on handphone , one hand cycling other hand hold umbrella or groceries , not stopping at red lights , the list goes on and on and on). Then you have people walking their dogs on black leash in the late evenings on bicycle lanes.....can you imagine if you are the cyclist and thought there is no leash until the last few metres? Recall the last moments of ET....(replace ET with a dog in the basket instead)....
  21. This is something cyclists either do not realize, or they simply bochap. On the stomp pic, really feel sorry for the driver (who will have no income until his taxi is fixed) and his co-driver (who will also have no income). Cyclists happily switching between pavements and roads....what the heck man! They are getting the best of both worlds while endangering both drivers and pedestrians. The cyclist should pay for the damages as well as the salaries of the two drivers. Imagine if the taxi had swerved and then hit an innocent pedestrian...who's to blame? Really, this are accidents that the TP should act on. I myself nearly langa into a cyclist who conveniently switched from the main road, onto the pavement (at traffic light junction), and then zebra crossing. If I was just one second faster, I would either have smacked into his side, or vice versa! I'm not against cycling on pavements; if majority of cyclists here are thoughtful, sharing even a 1m wide pavement wouldn't matter. But as we all know the typical behaviour of people here.....sometimes it is really "bo nao". ....soon another law to add to the 1000s of laws we have here....and whether it will be enforced is another matter....
  22. Hi Simeonlin My only advice is: don't rush. Take a bit of time to read through what the forumers here and other forums in renotalk have gone through. Then look at the IDs/contractors, compare, place needs before wants, then you decide. Don't let the word 'free' con you into signing. Quality comes with a price. Most important, don't forget to look into your wallet before signing anything! So which Blk do you belong to?
  23. Sometimes I loose my cool when these cyclists "ring ring ring" and expect you to give way. A few are quite ok as they are ah pek or auntie cyclists (usually very slow). It's the fast and furious ones that are really... But really, education and being considerate for others (i.e. pedestrians and cyclists being thoughtful for one another) is probably the only way. Society has to embrace it, otherwise, simi law will not work one. Look at Japan, and e.g. their "no talking on handphones" on certain trains. It's not a law, and yet people oblige! Why does it work? Because the society embraces such a system, and most people will not hesistate to scold anyone who uses the phone in such carridges. In Singapore most people only care about themselves and do not want to be busybody. Smoking at eating places, spitting, littering, cyclists switching from roads to pavements without warning (these are the REAL BAST*** cyclists),...the list goes on... For me, it's simple. If cyclist hit me on pavement and injury, I will not hesistate to make a police report. Pavements are for pedestrians, roads for vehicles and bicycles. If a person wants to cycle on pavement, please give way to pedestrains. If he/she cannot even do this, then please cycle on the road. If got no courage to cycle on the road and don't want to give way to pedestrians, then don't cycle at all....There's absolutely no chance that a cyclist has the right of way on a pavement. It's just plain ridiculous! I cannot see what cyclists can really argue about when they bang into people on pavements. I will also throw the bicycle into the drain if I ever kena hit by one! (I rather throw the cyclist, but for the law...) Whatever works in Tampines will probably not work in Toa Payoh, where majority of cyclists are youngsters on MTBs, and old folks..... ...so now crossing road must not only lookout for cars, but also for errant cyclists!
