i think inner flame burners is really fast in cooking and boiling water etc. The flame is very powerful and heavy compared to normal gas hobs. I bought the Fujioh FG793-SS with 1 inner flame burner and 2 normal burners. I think that's the best of both worlds.

BTW, I think you can sell the Ariston heater easily.. most pple nowadays prefer hot water w/ mixer taps and prefer getting the storage heater instead of instant heater. But I think your ID & his plumber really lying to you when they say they cannot install it. I also installed a 25L storage heater in my common toilet, no issues.

I bought my basin, WC, shower set, bidet spray & taps mostly from Royal Fanco, and some from Bellari. But it really depends if you like their designs. I think Royal Fanco actually carries a lot of designs, but probably the shop is a bit too "crowded" with boxes, thus not much on display like Poh Joo. But if you see something you like from the catalog, the boss, Henry, can bring out to show you or show you a very close sample. I see they have many customers walking in & out all the time. But only the boss and the lady(is that his wife?) works there, so can only serve 2 groups of customers at a time. (Lower labour cost, thus lower price.) As for Bellari, I also see only 1 guy & 1 lady salesperson in the shop. But they pretty much leave you alone to browse the displays, until you approach them for questions/orders.

I am not sure what the contractor will give for "free", I think they usually also just hide into part of the kitchen reno pricing. For me, I like to choose my own sink, hob, taps etc... Anyway, my renovations did not include them. I think there is a good price & range for these items (size, colour, function, design etc). If you want to do the best kitchen for your wife, do some research here, and let her choose these items!

Hi Tittieal, Do take some time to look at some completed projects(either new flat or resale flat, according to your flat type) of the ID you are thinking of engaging. Ask them if your quotations will include the same materials / same team of workers, that the "showflat" is renovated with. Sometimes the different teams' workmanship will vary! And also check how long the ID/project manager is willing to followup for you (few months?/weeks?/days) after completion/handover/final payment. It's the best advice I can think of at the moment.

Thks all for the replies. Appreciate them for I am a first-timer in installing top & bottom kitchen cabinets too. Another question I have is the bottom carpentry top are uneven. On the left is the cutout hole for my hob/stove. Will this be an issue in future? Eg: potential area for insects to hide & breed? Or will it be ok once my granite top is installed on top? [update] Just to update the ID feedback the uneven top is due to a 2nd piece of wood to be layered over (the lower section) my sink (I'm doing undermount sink), and then the granite top will be level. Checked the installed granite top today, seems ok. Anyway to check for levelling? Pour water over?

Problem is I have a few holes, not just 1. 1 hole I can still close 1 eye. But there are 5 in this photo alone. Some other pieces still have 2 holes.

Hi all, The laminates for my kitchen are not cut in a very straight line. The laminate meet/joint lines can be "jagged" !! Can the carpenters remove them and re-paste a new strip? My laminates are plain glossy type, not those textured ones. Should be easier to cut them straight right? And some of the cabinet pvc interior have extra drill-holes caused by the carpenters wrong drilling for the hinges. Anyway to rectify? I see them using some white putty-like stuff to fill, but it looks ugly! Any ideas how to rectify or possible to change that horizontal piece?

I am also having a white kitchen! White glossy laminates with black granite top and black ceramic floor tiles(white grouting). Now in the installation process. But 1 problem with white/pale laminates is the obvious darkbrown joint lines and less tolerant to uneven laminate cutting. I think the carpenters doing my kitchen are not very skilled in pasting & cutting the laminates and aligning the doors! The carpenters can even install 1 right-side open door upside down, then proceed to rectify by swapping with the installing the door on the left, thus creating more visible "drill holes" and hinge marks on the white-pvc interior. I'm trying to get my ID to rectify whereever possible. Hoping for a nicer kitchen look!

I think the main reason for high cost of spray paint is that 1) More workmanship/effort to spraypaint (need more skilled workers, thus less margin) 2) Fabrication of the cabinet frames & doors must be more "careful" cos the spray paint is prone to mistakes than pasting 1 big piece of laminate over. Need to use better wood and sand them to smoother surface? 3) More effort to "protect" the wood while transporting from factory to customer home. 4) Overpriced to deter people from doing spraypaint. (personally feel so ) However, I think that spraypaint is definately a nicer finish than using laminates if you can find a resonable quote! I love like those country-style whitish paint/staining over solid wood kitchen cabinet types. Sigh...

checked with the ID, again he used "international standard" , which he mentionis 1 feet(30cm) for top cabinets & 2 feet(30cm) for bottom. I feel that the top is a bit too shallow also, although have not seen the "redo" top cabinets yet. I tried to ask for 40cm, but again he mention the quotation is for 30cm "standard" only! Then why can't our quotation be half price of the bottom cabinets! ... How can everywhere be the same standard? Then why are we customising our cabinets for?

Maybe we can share some measurements of the depth of our kitchen top & bottom cabinets and even wardrobe in future? I will go back to measure the top & bottom cabinets and revert here! I'm also a 1st timer in this reno thing, so sometimes I also "blur" as to what measurements I should do and just accept the ID's proposal.

Don't worry about the "hole-cutout" for sink/stove/hob or hood. The carpenters will cut the correct hole to fit them when installing the kitchen cabinets at your home, provided your stuffs are already delivered and ready for their measurement. It's not "pre-cut" at factory. But I think kitchen solidtop or granitetop is precut at factory.

My top cabinet is also very shallow. To make things worse, the carpenters left approximately 6inches SPACE from the wall behind! He said the norm is 4-5inches! I cannot understand why we need this big gap there for what? Customisation is meant to make things better to suit our kitchen... there should not be any norm. Thus, I asked my ID to make it deeper, and he is currently redo-ing the whole top cabinet for me. Maybe you can try re-doing that portion also.

They never state the orginal/full price, I need to ask them. BTW the "20% off" card is placed on some of the models. They have another outlet at Park Mall. Since you are paying "downpayment" then it's a deal with them. Only question is how long they can hold your lights for you. Range of light is quite a lot, many people go there to shop too. Pricewise I think reasonable. But alas, I cant find any that suits my style. I checked them out just last week. Their prices are quite inflated, for a "wholesale" furniture provider. The original price for 1 of the models I found was cheaper at Harvey Norman, and Natural Living, although the "20% discounted" price was only slightly cheaper, by around $100. But the good thing is that they can cater to your needs and slightly customise the length of your sofa set. And I saw they have a wide range of fabric to choose from. Still thinking of whether can get better prices from them. I like the customising part since I have a small living area.

Sorry to butt in, but I saw string curtains in many colours, selling at Tanjong Katong Complex (same building as where Hoe Kee is) 1 pack, 3m height, i think 2-3m length only for abt $60. Maybe different quality, thus the price difference?

Thanks for the info. I actually decided on a s/s hob instead.. as I may do those long boiling & stewing process. I worry about the glass shattering although it's lifetime warranty. I got my kitchen sink, common basin & taps from Bellari though. Pretty good designs and reasonable price tag. I'm happy with the products so far, but have not start using them yet.

I was at Bellari few days ago and I saw "Lifetime Warranty" edged onto the glass hobs. And the saleslady and salesman also confirmed that they would replace the hob if it should crack and they mention "very few cases" (meaning still got a few cases?) of it happening. Anyone's Bellari's glass hob cracked before? I was almost sold by the ease of cleaning... so much easier than s/s hobs! Oh, the "standard 3burner" version is $399 and the "gourmet" version is $499. Is Rinnai or Cuizino 3-burner version cheaper/higher quality? Deciding between these few brands now. Thanks!!

Hi, did anyone buy aircon from Gain City recently and manage to get them to come down to 2 times for free installation, once for trunking and another time for fancoil installation? Most of the time, the step-up kerb shd be able to hack away to create level flooring in the common toilet. But your contractor must be careful in case they break the ceiling of your neighbour below and cause leaking. I think this also must get HDB approval depending on the unit? If you look up at your common bathroom ceiling and see a lowered "protruding" ceiling portion above your toilet, the original toilet seating is most likely those "squatting" type.
