Laminated Flooring
purpledino replied to alister's topic in RENOVATION IDEAS: Interior Design Themes, Space Planning
It depends on the type of laminate flooring you use, there is a wide range. For example I was quoted ~$5600 for my living dining and 3 bedroom for the Kronotex Amazone range, price is comparable or even slightly more expensive compared to homogenous tiles. And I believe Pergo is even pricier... Of course there are cost savings involved with laminate, e.g no need to hack existing tiles if yours is a resale unit. But also slightly harder to maintain lah compared to homogenous - cannot just pour a bucket of water and scrub, need to do dry mopping. But personally I like the more cosy feel of laminate... -

Met up with Kenneth last week to discuss quotation. Despite his busy schedule, he managed to get the quotation and perspective drawings ready in 10 days! After he drove us around to see his ongoing projects, he even sent us home! And we haven't even signed on any dotted line! Haven't decided to engage him yet, but I must say his customer service is world class! !! Very patient, honest (readily admits when he doesn't know the answer to my questions) and flexible to suggestions. No wonder he has so many satisfied customers... Hope his final quotation is within my budget... -
Let's say I get a quotation from A. However a quotation from an equally reputable ID firm B is much cheaper. Is it all right/ common practice to show A the quotation from B to ask A to try to make a better offer? I'm asking cos I'm in this situation. A= $40K B= $36K both are ID firms highly reocmmended in this forum but given comparable pricing, we would go for A (feel we can click with the ID better). Any opinions?

Painting Kitchen Wall Instead Of Tiling
purpledino replied to purpledino's topic in Kitchen & Bathroom
well, in the context of painting kitchen walls, if u don't want to hack the existing tiles away, you will need to plaster over the tiles - meaning a thin 2mm layer of plaster is layered over the wall to smoothen and hide the tilesso you can paint over them. you can't just paint over the existing tiles cos you will still see the existing tile texture if you just paint over (unless that's what you want of course)... anyone has any recommended paint types i should use for my kitchen walls? -
www.craftstone.com.sg think this should do it !!

Hi, I just spoke to an ID - one which is recommended a fair bit in this forum - who suggested the below: 1) tile only the area between the top-hung and bottom cabinets 2) backsplash - glass/stainless steel 3) paint the rest of the kitchen using more hard-wearing, washable paint a few reasons why he recommended it 1) cost savings - obviously (close to $1K savings) 2) more contemporary feel to it (i can imagine since can use nicer color combos/ even hang up pictures on painted wall and will look quote nice) - i think most kitchen walls overseas are painted he says from experience, maintanence will be ok since we will be having a cooker hood to suck up the smoke and what not. wondering if any of you have done it before. i mean, will it mean that we have to clean the painted kitchen wall often?

Laminated flooring for living rm and bedrms
purpledino replied to paikiapeng's topic in Ceiling, Walls and Flooring Works
I'm planning to laminate my living/dining and bedrooms, but my ID recommended against laminating my living room - he said it may 'shift' and and certain sections may pop out if the area laminated is not regular (i.e. rectangular/square) - my living room is like 3-4 rectangles joined together so considered irregular. Anyone experienced laminate pop-out before? -

can someone pm me kelvin's handphone number? thanks! -
Hi, I'm planning to lay laminate flooring at my new place, and I'm looking for a reputable brand. My Id recommends Supreme, but I've searched the net and found other brands which seem quite good as well. Here's the list: 1) Supreme - seems to be recommended by many local IDs 2) Vohringer - don't think many IDs recommend this brand 3) Kronotex - impressive range on their website but anyone has had experience with this brand 4) Pergo - Pergo is to laminates just like Kleenex is to tissue - however I've heard that they're not as good as they are made out to be Anyone can give me advice? Thanks!

Hi, I'm interested in engaging Intra design as my ID; however since Dave and Angeline are like super busy (I presume), can I ask if any of you guys have engaged their other staff, and who else would you recommend? Thanks.
