Hi Kakikaki, Just to share, I'm starting renovation for my new flat & it's my first time shoppibg from Taobao too. I read thru various person's T-blogs to understand how TB works. As my mandarin sucks, I decided to use peeka as my "buyer" & forwarder to help me procure and ship my stuff over. It's user friendly and almost hassle-free! If you wish to try ur hand at buying direct frm TB sellers, can search for OceanEleven's T-blog. He has a very good explanation of how this works. Hope you have fun shopping at TB like all of us do! PS: don't get addicted TB-ing!

Not dusty? Really? We popped by our flat a few times and our closed windows panels got dusty-er each time we are there. Maybe becoz our block still doing renovations at the ground level so dusty-er. Idk! Hopefully will be ur side not as bad as we thought. And I gotta agree that our flat, despite the low floor is windy too! Soft breeze like u mentioned! And thank God that our unit is not hit by the sun so we feel cooling in there thru out the day..hee!! For water purifier, we bought from Tuberware. Not the best brands around but we thought it was decent enough for the basic purifying function and it's compact! Save space on our counter top!! We got it at a promotion last Dec when the whole set was going at $888 + they throw in a set of tuberware foc! We thought it was super worth! U can consider Btw can check with u on the rain shower set u bought from TB? Is quality good & worth? I'm considering to check to rain shower too!

Hi Snowy89! U shifted in alrdy? I think shld be very dusty coz everywhere is renovation going on. Do remember to shut the gaps of all openings and esp the bottom of ur main door. Stuff cloth or something frm the inside of ur flat. Dust will still enter no matter what measures we take. #omg on the funny tasting water! That thought ever crossed my mind so we alrdy standby water purifier when we shift in. Anw, we are starting renovation works this week. Hope to find time to start a T-blog on our reno progress.

Awesome babe! Your lovenest is really lovely! Ur dream-place came true! You were saying it's like a boutique hotel right...actually, I realised the consistent shades of brown and silver throughout the different themes so they all look perfect under one roof! Kudos to ur ID and all ur efforts! Can showcase your flat liao... Oh, did I mention before, cool bathrooms! Although black isn't my thing but yeah, ur MBR bathroom feels dramatic and sensual! Maybe coz of the red and black combi...nice nice ambience to be in there *LOL* Guess ur renovations are coming to the end...YES, CLEANING TIME...! Surely very dusty since everyone around is renovating at the same time.

Another thing babe - You shipped ur TB stuff via Peeka? I haven't done shipping from TB before so not sure which freight forwarder are most recommeded. I'm considering Amcon or Sg shop - both using their "buy for me" concept since my Mandarin sucks. Any idea among these 3, which has cheaper shipping rates?

Hey babe...I'm really inspired by you and the GORGEOUS bedroom now! I'm looking online for Wallpaper too...We wanted to wall paper our living room but scrap the idea becoz we have too much details in the living and dining room alrdy. So gonna lay wall paper only in the MBR at the same slab of wall as yours. And yes! You rename ur post to boutique hotel home @ punggol topaz! SO true...I can also imagine the looks on the face of the visitors...Really well done up! But I can't imagine entering a resort style hall in some island then transiting into Europe in the bedroom! IT'S beautifully unique but up to individual liking, that's why we decided to follow the same theme through out - which my Hubbz is loving enough to let me have my desired theme The only part of our dream house that is not Country style is probably the kitchen! Haha...Don't really cook much so decided not to spent too much on it. Didn't know a decently-built kitchen cld cost so much! Talking about kitchen, are your kitchen cabinets gloss laminate? Also, which brand of hood and hob did u buy? I ordered a chimney hood and hob from Bosch but still contemplating which brand is best for extraction of smoke and smell coz we are not fixing a door to close up the kitchen. Need a good one to make the rest of the house feeling as smoke-free as possible... Anw, thanks for sharing abt the storage heater. No idea why the shop told me another story. That's why I was thinking such concept can't work if u have a bigger family with kids! All queue up to bathe becoz no hot water?? Weird....Well, looking forward to see your renovations completed. If I pop by to my house one of the days, could I drop by ur unit to see the real stuff?? Oh ya! Anymore loots you're expecting frm TB? CNY is approaching and I guess I better make orders and shipping soon coz they usually break a long time over the CNY period. WOOHOOO! Excited over my shopping!

Hi snowy89, So impressed with the progress of your renovations so far! Ur ID is really worth recommending! I haven't been online for awhile and I'm impressed to see how much ur flat has transformed into! Very happy for u!! I love the idea of your seatee...space saving and has storage! Remember I told you have have the exact same layput as u and we didn't want to hack the kitchen walls? After seeing your dining concept, I'm so tempted to do something along this line. But sadly, we can't becoz seatee don't fit the Country style theme we wanted and we already purchased all our furniture that is in french-designed (i.e bulky and definitely not space saving). And to our horror, we realised that we cld actually get from TB at much more savings Too late to retract our orders for now.... But now, I'm inspired by you to grab the lightings and wall paper from TB! At least some savings when we can't get the best of everything. Can I check with you: 1. How much did u pay for your curtains from Vincent thru Renotalk? (You can PM me if not convenient to share here) 2. I read that your wall paper quality from TB is very good! Any other TB seller to recommend other than yours? And who did u engage to install the wall paper for u? 3. I learnt from one of the shops that storage heater only allows one person to use the hot water one at a time. Means my HUBZ and I can't be bathing with hot water concurrently at both diff bathrooms if we install the storage heater. Is that true? Do u know? 4. Did you have issues fixing the lightings purchased from TB? Eg. voltage problem? Bulbs that TB provides work? I plan to buy a few for the house. Looking forward to see more updates! Am happy to be your neighbour soon! For us, we are only starting reno after CNY...we can't wait too!

Hello Snowy89, Sorry for the hiatus in replies...have been busy lately. Thanks so much for sharing the links to the french cabinets. I've gotten all my furniture settled, except my bed from a friend's contact who sells furniture of such themes. They were going on 50% discount over 2 tea parties this year and we have bought them and requested for the lady owner to store for us. They are my friend's contact so very nice of them to help keep our bulky furniture up to a year! The only thing is when I went into TB, I realise that the furniture are far too cheap. If we haven't gotten most of our furniture at 50% discount, I think I would really feel super cheated! Aye....sorry, I tried to post pictures of my furniture to show u but I can't seems to upload them *sua-gu*. Can teach me how to post?? The other links sharing abt posting media makes me more confused. Haha... Anyway, thanks for sharing your lights& fan-hunting journey into JB!! I'm excited and intending to travel there next month...Can't wait! Still waiting for HDB letter to collect keys...no news yet..almost a month since our HLE is approved. How long did you wait for HDB notification for key collection after HLE approval? The Vento Fino version 2 fan looks cute! How much did u pay for it vs SG price? I'm thinking of getting fans and light together in one as we don't intend to make false ceilings...so such combi is the best...The design for such are quite limited. Esp I wanted KDK fans but they dun come with much variety of bright lightings... I have a few JB contacts from friends so still undecided which shop to go to. If the one you've recommended is good, I'll probably head there directly to buy! Oh ya, do you happen to have contacts for curtains at JB too? I know making curtains there can help save a bit more too esp ours would be heavy fabric sort for the countrystyle theme. Hey! U know what? I happen to stay on the lower floors too...sadly. No more units given our Q no. Oh! We might be facing each other's unit! LOL. I wanted to do away with window grills but my hubb disagree with the same concern as yours - security reasons. But I'm thinking window grills (esp they're BLACK frames and grills) would ruin our theme....if they're white is best..but black.....and now with grills....Super headache But I know I still I have to install grills no matter what...We managed to find a contact from Ubi industrial area...direct contact can save us quite a bit. Can share with u with if you keen And for the craftstone design tiles - we almost got them from Hafary for our brickwall behind the sofa!! Haha...But we are scrapping away the idea...maybe 3D wallpaper will do the trick! Hee...I wish I cld start reno works soon, before CNY. But I guess impossible so gotta wait till March to start. We didn't opt for HDB titles and doors so I guess lesser rectification to be done *keeping fingers cross* Did you check for pipe chockages and water sippages at the corner of your ceilings? My friends advise us to do so becoz sippages at ceiling corners could be becoz the HDB contractors did not do the waterproofing of the main walls properly. Do check since it has been raining often during this period. Will start a T-blog once I can! Very useful for all to know...with exchanging of tips and contacts!

Hihi...anyone has good recommendations for curtain tailors in JB? Heard the savings can be pretty substantial & I don't mind travelling across the causeway to find a reliable & reasonable-priced one! 😄

Hi Melanie Tan, Sorry to hear about ur bad experience too We heard many bad stories about IDs and contractors that's why we became more cautious when researching for one to do our reno. Esp when our theme is so niche. Best is to rely on contacts so at least you can be assured of the ID/contractor's services and work quality. Thank God for us, we managed to findreliable contacts. But have to agree that a lot of homework and efforts to put in our research and lotsa info overload! At least you also have the luxury of time to space out your research and sourcing...It will be fun! Oh ya, I ever came across a display cabinet for toy collections which may suit what you want. Let me search and will upload the photo when I find it! I told my hubbz that he has to display his toys in the comfort of the bedroom since they won't fit the hall...For my hubbz, we just have to find a nice space for him to place his toys (which he adores and so proud of) will suffice! It's getting so common these days right..........Hehe...

Hi Snowy89, OMG we are just next block neighbours!! We almost chose 260C during flat selection but didn't coz of the central rubbish bin and multi-storey carpark (we were left the low floors ) Anw, I'm looking forward to this new and vibrant estate! Waiting anxiously for letter on key collection ...... We haven't resolve the kitchen entrance 'problem' until we collected keys and go on site to do all the measurements with our contractor. In the end to accomodate the dining table, might have to heck down the other side of the kitchen wall so there will be more walkway into the kitchen - which we intended to build our shoe cabinet at that corner. Unless we don't mind the non-privacy and place the dining table right in front of the main door. Totally not keen coz so weird....Thanks for the ideas of errecting the shoe cabinet in front as a divider to block off some privacy, but we don't like such clustered-up concept of the dining and living room. Well, we'll see how during site visit. Floor space definitely not to our favour Talking about wallpaper, I wanted to purchase from TB too (there're so many things I wish I can buy frm TB which can save us a lot of $) but like I've said about my bad mandarin, I might just buy from SG. My only concern is the wallpaper quality and workmanship. Going to our neighbouring country is a wise move! I plan to do that...to purchase KDK fans and lightings, home accessories etc...*Can't wait* Would love to see more updates on ur flat yah! Enjoy the reno journey!

Hi Snowy89! I'm your excited fellow Topazian too! U got the exact floor plans as us (layout, dimension & measurements)! And I can't agree more with you that making space for the dining table and the kitchen entrance is sucha pain! We are trying to preserve the original kitchen entrance and squeeze in our round dining table....not sure if possible...I've been whining on some parts of the floor layout too (eg. wasted "walk-way" into the MBR, MBR toliet sink where I can't put a proper vanity country bla bla bla), but I know complaining too much won't make any difference now. So we decided to be thankful and make the best of the new house! Anyway, do you mind sharing which block are you from? GUESS YOU'VE COLLECTED UR KEYS! I received HDB's letter that PCD will be end Dec - I CAN'T WAIT! I'm from 260B btw. The theme I'm looking at is Country style - which is so so niche and hard to find good IDs & contractors....Like u, we've done a fair bit of research since dunno-how-long-ago because my hubbz and I are SOOOOO excited on our first new home. We have already purchased most of our furniture except our bed. This is how extremely excited we are!! *LOL* I'm also looking at French country themes which I bought my furniture from JS Manhatten Collection - a friend's contact. We got the extraordinary pcs like a fire place, a side board and a display cabinet for the hall. These, although have to find space to fit them, are essential to bring our our desired themes! We are still meeting contractors and haven't chose one yet, but we thought we still have time as we plan to only start reno after CNY in March *Argghh..still a long wait.........* Meanwhile, we can share all the tips we can have with one another...esp when you also like the French, classic theme *winks* We decided to be our own ID becoz we have researched quite a fair bit and know what we want. Below are our requirements: - WIW (MBR to bedroom 2) - Hack half the wall between living room and bedroom 3 to create a cottage window - Still comtemplating if we want a brick-like feature wall, which cld go scandi if not done well - wainscoting panels in hall and MBR - My hubbz toy collection in display cabinet - seriously, I'm still cracking my brains how to showcase them since country style themes don't have iron men and transformers living ard their halls - lotsa wallpaper and pastel colours ard...(BTW, do you happen to know which country wallpaper can suit SG's weather? I'm worried that they may peel over time coz of our humidity!) We are still cracking our brains on the ID of our flat but we are enjoying the process! I wish I can shop on TB but my chinese sucks to the max...I can't read nuts from their website....how sad. Pls feel free to exchange tips if you don't mind! Excited to see post from TOPAZ - Finally!
