  1. I would personally go for the ones that's behind the bed rather than at the sides... Imagine having to walk around your bed to get to stuff that's on the cupboards at the other side. Seems a bit of an inconvenience. Definitely doable if you have a longish room after hacking the walls, methinks!
  2. My place came with a single aircon in the MBR, but I installed ceiling fans for both bedroom and living. I'm used to the fan even though there's an aircon in my room over at my parents' place haha. Even in recent months when it's been warmer, I don't get past the slowest fan speed, so I'm pretty sure that's enough for me... And a big hi to all the new joiners! I feel like I'm missing a huge chunk of convo here haha. Welcome!
  3. Omg! Hi @oktopussy! Crazy cat lady here! Hahaha. That cat wall...SO MUCH WANT. It's a project I'd like to take on diy after I move in.
  4. Haha yeah, my ID did warn me about that - he said I'll be asked to remove at my own cost if there's anything found to be against the rules. But luckily, my place has a high ceiling (being the top floor) so the height of the platform is still acceptable...
  5. @fridgebuzz & @coolbunny Baking, me three! Hahaha. Housewarming baking party~~~
  6. I tried to get in touch with Mr Foo via FB... Totally no response from him haha. I think he must be quite a popular guy around here. https://m.facebook.com/custom.box.sg
  7. That's a telling sign @coolbunny... My ex-schoolmate (now turned ID) told me a lot of IDs quote based on a cookie-cutter-style design. They just change colours and laminates then voila, it's a 'new design'. This way, they and their subcons can churn it out fast and furious. Maybe he's one of those type, that's why the quote remained the same...
  8. Thanks for the heads up the new tblog @2Roomer! Keeping tabs on it for sure. http://www.propertyguru.com.sg/property-management-news/2015/8/104714/Shoebox%20influx%20in%202017?utm_source=pgsg-newsalert&utm_medium=edm&utm_campaign=dailynews-13Aug2015&utm_content=links Actually, I also read the above article the other day about the upcoming influx of shoebox apartments, so I'm a little concerned about the sell-ability of my own place should I wish to upgrade after I've fulfilled my MOP...
  9. Love a good platform. Gonna be keeping tabs on this thread too - looking forward to hearing more about your reno!
  10. Hi Pauline! Welcome to the club. Thanks! My kitchen is a little small after all the cabinets were put in (a bit kiasee cuz I worry about storage space so I maxed out whatever space I could utilise) And yes, it's a 2-room but 56m2. @BunniBoi Yeah, 2-room flats seems to be highly over subscribed. Which was why I decided to not bother trying. I have the worst luck like ever! My friends once joked that they should queue behind me in slot machines at the casino cuz I'd clear all the 'sueh-ness' away lol.
  11. @2Roomer "In addition, elderly citizens aged 55 and above can choose to buy a 2-room Flexi flat on short lease as a monetisation option, regardless of whether they have enjoyed housing subsidies previously or own a private residential property. This includes elderly who are not eligible to buy a 99-year 2-room Flexi flat, viz. first-timer singles earning more than $5,000, second-timer singles, households who have enjoyed two housing subsidies, and private property owners1. The purchase and ownership conditions are set out in Annex A (PDF 24KB)." This sounded to me like a lot of others besides the elderly can opt for shorter leases...? But the Annex does say otherwise... I'm confused lol.
  12. Folks! Details on the new flexi 2-room scheme is out: http://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/housing/2-room-flexi-scheme-40-of-flats-set-aside-for-seniors-studio-apartment-lease-can?xtor=CS3-17 If I understand the chart correctly, this means that singles can now opt for a shorter lease too?
  13. Looking at the flip side of things, all that work saves you a trip to the gym! To be honest, all that cleaning (especially the bathroom!) is the part I'm least looking forward to about moving out haha. Btw, still waiting for that review of your Braava!
  14. @coolbunny Some of the initial quotes I got from the contacts I 'know' (friend's dad's friend and my ex-schoolmate) were in the 40s! So don't be too surprised haha. (Obviously, I dropped them like a hot rock cuz they were almost double my initial budget!) Personally, I didn't go with the cheapest quote but the one whom I think I can work with best (cuz the design was my own so I needed more of a project manager, so to speak). Interestingly, the more expensive quotes I got were from the IDs who are more design-based. The project manager types had lower quotes and tend to be yes-men based on my observations from the meetings I've had with them. So it really depends on what you're gunning for. Good luck in your search! Meet at least a couple to get their vibe.
  15. Hey @varying! How are you enjoying your new place so far? @2Roomer, thanks for the suggestion! Didn't know I could do that so not sure how cost effective or viable it is... Will do more reading up for future DIY projects around the house haha.
  16. @mmoh, thanks, I quite fancy it too! Even with the bubbles lol. I've already tried that method you suggested last week! Only works for some. The air slipped back into the rest when I checked again the next day. @rainbow1979, just gotta figure out your wants and needs. 25k can get a lot done!
  17. @rainbow1979, reno was about 35k... @BunniBoi, haha, thanks - just a simple full height cabinet. Wanted it to resemble a wall as much as possible so I opted for matt white laminate.
  18. @BunniBoi, it's in this post http://keepcalmandmeow.blogspot.sg/2015/07/and-thats-carpentry-plumbing-wrap.html
  19. @mmoh, I got a Moen sink. My Dad took a shine to it when it first arrived and remarked that it looked very well made. Haha.
  20. A lot of random little things lol. Mostly for the kitchen and bathroom. Still mulling over it for now cuz the USD is kinda ex lately... I was also tempted by the Kraus sink talk initially but ended up buying another American brand cuz it was cheaper haha.
  21. Haha! Cool video @mmoh! Was just staring at my Amazon cart this long weekend! Getting ready to make a big order for some of the stuff I will need for my place... So much temptations abound in Amazon man...
  22. This weekend is a good time to move cuz it's a long weekend! What great timing. Are you hiring movers? Would be interested to find out an average estimate of the cost if you are... Was gunning for it midways into my reno but I figured I won't make it (true enough). Oh well!
  23. Btw folks, heard from my ID that the new pre-mix cement adds about 40% more to the cost of wet works. So if you're referencing a reno quote from before June this year, you may want to keep that in mind.
  24. For the average bed frames, if you were to include the headboard - it usually adds up to at least 2m, so it's probably safer to factor in more just in case...? The walkway between the foot of my bed and my bookshelves at my parents' place is about 35cm at the moment. It's a close shave but not impossible haha. But may be a good idea to consider varying''s type of wardrobe?
  25. Yay @varying! So happy for you. When are you moving in?! Agree with mmoh there, your kitchen looks really spacious and airy. Partly also cuz of the lighter palette, I think. Also love your new gate - having the bars all in one direction makes it so much easier to wipe! Haha.
