  1. Ha Ha! You have very sharp eyes. It is indeed African Black.
  2. Today I went up to my place and got a shock of my life. Our place is in a mess... with all these capentary. I guess it would be more messy if they had not installed our walk-in wardrobe, which is total 19 feet worth of capentary, when I went up there. Our TV console and feature wall is also not ready as there is some changes to design as need to accommodate my home theatre system. Our walk-in wardrobe. Dunno why it look orangy in the photo. Couldn't really get a good angle to take the pictures as the place is very cramp. And stupid me forgot to take the other row of the wardrobe. Our suspended book shelves, 1/4 way done. So finally my reno has officially resume. Now eagerly waiting for the capentary to be assembled piece by piece. Can't wait to see the final outcome which should be in 1 1/2 weeks time.
  3. Wow! It has been a exactly a week since I last update. Almost couldn't find my t-blog as it has gone so far bottom. During the past one week, we had our laminate flooring installed for our bedroom and walk-in wardrobe area. Originally chose PowerDekor but as advised by my ID, China had some serious flooding and the last batch of PowerDekor laminate were having some problem. So in the end had to re-choose. Finally, select Supreme but had to top up some money to upgrade to AC5 and select the colour that we like. Laminated uploaded to our house. Confirm it's Supreme. The installer was pretty hardworking. He was still working when we went up to our place at 10 pm. So the laminate flooring was completed within a day. This is the bedroom. Love the colour that we have chosen. This will be the walk-in wardrobe. We also had our WC installed finally.
  4. I have the same problem too and it's made worse if we were to overlay the kitchen floor tiles. There is no way to raise the living flooring as it will be blocked by the bomb shelter door. In the end we hack the kitchen floor so that the living room and kitchen floor is level. Even then, after everything done, the bomb shelter door and main door just clear the living room floor by mere millimetres. It is such things that I wonder what was HDB and the architect thinking.
  5. that's sad. seems like a lot of break-ins, forced-in and non-force in, in our area. it's good that you have made a police report. let the police know about all these cases so that they can step up their patrol. we also had to take delivery to some items earlier and we actually bring them to back to my current place bcos just don't feel safe. also when i told my ID about the break-ins previously, he installed 2 locks for me. not fool proof but just feel safer. not sure if you still have big items to be delivered. but you may request your ID to put 2 locks for you. And update your ID whenever you have delivery and hint to her to ask her worker to keep a look up for you.
  6. hi keropi, did u expand your toilet door? seems like you have hacked off some part of it.
  7. hi, welcome to the forum. very informative read. thanks.
  8. Hi, Kitchen wall tiles can also hack but we didn't bcos want to save money. BTW you found your electrician already? Actually if you want to overlay, I'm sure your ID can do something about the switch for you.
  9. hi, welcome. kitchen tiles can hack. i hacked mine. toilet must wait for 3 years. Talking about curtains..... Anyone has good recommendation for curtains maker. My reno should be completing in 2-3 weeks time. Need to source for curtains already.
  10. tio lah. heard about your lightings experience. good that you can get back your money. don't be too stress up. sometimes **** (or ****ty people) does happen. learn thru it. most importantly, enjoy the reno process.
  11. Spend a total of $994 that includes 14 x PLC downlighs 1 x Halogen spot light (with 3 light holders) 9 x flourescene lights 4 x T5 lights 1 x kitchen light 1 x bomb shelter light 2 x toilet lights 1 x crystal light for walk-in wardrobe Bought them at Pantech in Jurong East opp Chinese Garden MRT. Did not shop a lot for our lights as we know that our requirement is very simple. So just pop by Pantech as recommended by a lot of forumers here, pick our lights and pay. 1 gang switch means a face plate with 1 on-off "button". Here you see a 1 gang siwtch and a 3 gang switch.
  12. Thanks for all the advise. Not decided between Electrolux and Brandt. In the end may go for the Brandt has it has a bigger capacity dryer.
  13. Spam Chop! Enjoy your reno process.
  14. Let There Be Lights While waiting for the capentary to be fabricated. A few things were done, primarily electrical works. Air-con was installed. But I forgot to take pictures of the air-con. Anyway, nothing fanciful about the air-con. Still the same 2 rectangular box like everyone else. Lights were also install together with the switches. Now I can go there duing night time and admire the work done or find fault with the reno, depending on which angle you look at it. These are lights at our new home. Living room cove lights and down lights. Super bright and super energy wasting (and burning money) when all the lights are on. Bedroom. Same theme as the living room except that the cove lights are warm lights. (Pardon the patchy ceiling work as haven't touch up yet.) Lights (not turn on) at above the shoe cabinet, where normally people have their dinning area. My favorite light. Halogen spot lights at the foyer. Walk-in wardrobe lights. My WTB favorite. Kitchen light. Surprsing it's quite bright. Bomb shelter has the same light but smaller in size. Lights at both toilets. The "milk can" light. Also change the switches for the whole house. I like switches with big dolly. We even change the door bell switch. Check with my ID, his electrician doesn't do freelance. (Not sure if he's hinting he doesn't do just a few points.) Sorry couldn't help.
  15. hi msbean, yes, the white pipe you see to the right of the picture is the water outlet pipe behind the sink support. at the end of the pipe will be the bottle trap which looks something like the 2nd picture. one end of the bottle trap is to the water outlet pipe and the other end is to the drain hole of your basin. the bottom half of the bottle trap can be unscrew to remove waste. hope this is clear.
  16. hee hee.... i'll check with my electrician if you want to do this job.
  17. 1) dun quite get what you mean. there will be a waste trap to your basin. so your ring won't drop through right? even if anything small falls through, there is a bottle trap underneath the basin behind the sink support. 2) if your unit is facing the lift landing, then your door will be self closing and there is no magnet to hold the door as your door is supposed to be closed at all time. this is a fire safety regulation. i know bcos i reported the "missing" magnet holder as a defect. then the lady told me so.
  18. since if are a DIY type of person, then it should not be too difficult for you. you just need a screwdriver to pry open the face plate. then unscrew the 2 screws and your switch can be left dangling. no touching of wires required. after overlaying, you can fix it back. but please off the main circuit first.
  19. your electrician needs to remove the switch first before the tilers lay the tiles. else they would have to cut the tiles and chances are they will not be able to cut exactly to size. for me it's simple bcos i'm changing my switches too. if you do not have an electrician, maybe you can ask your ID/contractor for help. it's not difficult to remove them. hai... not much progress for my reno. waiting for capentary to be in. !!
  20. that's bad. so you/your contractor dismantle the wc and check? better get HDB to rectify quickly. call the branch office direct and bang table. response should be faster.
  21. hee hee... i meant from where. anyway thanks for info.
  22. hi, may i know how much you bought the heater for and for where? thanks.
  23. welcome neighbours! so have you started with your reno? post more pics please.
  24. Which of the following is a better choice? Thanks. Electrolux W/M: EWF1084 Dryer: EDE606A or EDE429E Brandt W/M: WFH10771A Dryer: EFE310K
  25. HDB reno permit is FOC. However, if HDB deem it necessary to have PE endorsement for any structural change e.g. hack wall, then you need to pay for the PE fee.
