  1. Some of the home appliances purchased in the past 2 months. Very satisfied with them so far, except the burner fire from Fujioh hob is still a little too strong to my wife's cooking habbits
  2. Have spent 2 days buying CAT6 cables, CAT6 keystones and LAN faceplates from SLT, and converted all the phone sockets to network ports that support up to 1Gbps through cables. Total cost for parts <$60

  10. Hope this is not too late.....the Rinnai works great. The water pressure is increased by approx 30% when the pump speed is set at max. However, the pump is quite noisy when running. It's like putting your HP on table in vibration mode.
  11. I will share more photos after new year. Have been taking photos whenever I found any "surprise" when touching up some of the minor defects. Don't think any forumers who are still working with him would want to share their experiences until their reno is done. I don't really mind spending extra to fight for what we think is fair, especially when we have the proof to show. But, sharing our true experience with others is equally important so they don't repeat our mistake..... Hi Freakerz, Thanks again for the link. Happy New Year!!
  12. I think the glass backsplash is not a good idea. As snowy89 pointed out, you will have trouble mounting most of the toilet accessories on the walls. Cutting holes through the glass means your contractor will probably use silicon to patch the exposed holes after mounting the accessories. This can be hard to maintain if the silicon is not smoothened out. The biggest hazard is if someone loose his grip on the hand-held shower head, it will back swing and hit hard on the glass backsplash. Too dangerous...
  13. Hi Freakerz, Thanks for the tips. We managed to remove those tiny drips of white paint on the HERF flooring with water, toothbrush and 5~6 hrs of our weekend. Do you happen to have any photo or link showing the acid that you mentioned? I will ask around in the neighborhood hardware and paint shops next few days. Thks again!
  14. PM'ed. I will share more workmanship defects with photos with everyone here when I have time later. Found surprises almost everyday or alternate day after living here for a month. Never ending to take photos, touch up and fix those recoverable defects.....
  15. Hi Freakerz, It stated "chemical wash after completion -$300" in my quotation, but I believe my ID didn't do it since he 'washed hand' after 80% payment. Lots of pebbles and dust in both bathrooms. Tiny drips of paint all over 3 mahogany-colored HERF flooring in 3 bedrooms I will probably DIY, but where can I buy those acid and any recommended water-acid dilution ratio? Don't want to damage the flooring tiles cement. Thks!
  16. Just realized that my ID sealed the power socket behind the cabinet at study area when I need to use it. Could someone recommend a realiable electrician to shift it out from behind the cabinet? Other than the power socket, has anyone seen the whitish cement-like substances on the bathroom flooring after the reno? They are hard-coated and not removable even we tried hard to scrub them with metal brush. Thks...

  18. Hi mitchiko, PM'ed. We are not too particular with the $70k reno cost for our new home. After all, it's the place our family spend most of the time and we are willing to pay for it. But, the whole reno just turned into our nightmare, having to deal with surprises and excuses, despite our compromises to many that below our expectation....Anyway, life goes on. Just can't wait to fix some of the workmanship defects and end the nightmare before new year. Here are the links to the mirrors and LED lights. http://detail.tmall.com/item.htm?id=12760660869&spm=a1z09.2.9.239.6As0uM&_u=bvr2rgb1cf5 http://detail.tmall.com/item.htm?id=40276000970&spm=a1z09.2.9.291.6As0uM&_u=bvr2rgb5c97 I may go for my 3rd round of Taobao purchase when I am back in town next week. Will order these button holders to hold the mirrors. Pls share if you know where to get these locally. Thks! http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a1z0d.6639537.1997196601.185.OTYI2n&id=39180559057
  19. In order to avoid further dispute and delay the reno schedule, me and wife have agreed to let him remove the $3.3k reno discount of our $69k reno cost, and revised a new quotation. We don't seem to have much choices because we have to handover our existing flat to new buyer a week after the scheduled reno completion date. Thx for the heads-up. Will check it out when I am back from US this weekend Nope....we went to other source in the late evening after he walked away from the afternoon discussion. We've got no choice because I have to leave town the next day for 2 weeks. PM'ed you the details. Feel free to share if you have any advice for us. Thx
  20. hi Pea88, I m not sure will the limited space above the aircon affect its efficiency or operation, but for sure it will be a headache when come to maintenence because there's no space to squeeze in the vacuum cleaner nozzle to clean it.......just hope that the aircon installer knows his work well.
  21. Spoken to CASE officer last Monday morning before leaving town and was strongly advised to look for another contractor to complete the remaining works, then lodge a complaint with CASE against my existing ID. CASE officer told that this type of dispute is very common and my side of story sounds convincing to him, they just need to review the relevant documents to assess further. But wife prefers to "退一步海阔天空". After all, my ID's contractors workmanship is still acceptable so far and moving to new home is suppose to be a joyful experience. As Daddy Winter pointed out, wife also wants less trouble and will try to work out with the ID this Friday.....then decide the next step.
