    Hi, I am facing the same problems as my flat is old too and needs a lot of work done, Initially budgeted around 40k but it is not enough...think most of them quoted me around 50 to 60k. I think like u,cutting down carpentry now and will buy next time (when save more)

    hi, Luckily for you coz can save money...don need to waste money hacking away the built in cabinets and stuff.. A fren has recommended a contractor who will do the hacking,tiling,plastering and L boxes. And I have to liase directly with the electrician,carpenter and air con man that he recommends.I think in a way its good coz there will be less mis communication. Sometimes,i feel the contractor acting as the middle man...there mayb some misinterpretation. A bit troublesome for me now....but i think still worth the effort. I will be taking my key end of the month and will start reno right early sept. wish me luck!

    Hi, I am thinking of getting the lights from Taobao like what you did. I am quite a noob here...=( Can I assume that all lights from TB can be installed in Singapore?I mean no technical problems.I am afraid that I cant instill them after buying. TIA

    Hi, I also gotten a 5 room resale flat which is 30 over years old. The conditions are quite similar to yours. Initially i budget about 40k (hacking only kitchen and living room) ..re do the 2 toilets and kitchen (with new cabinets) and changing of lightings,windows,wiring,plastering and some nitty griity stuff.... but most of them quoted me about 50 plus k....=(
