  1. I just ordered a blanco metra9 sink too.. Like the big, deep bowl => put a 16cm wok down no problem at all. Also like the squarish modern design, which is less seen in SS sinks. THe sales person used coin to try scratching it, and it leaves no markings. This sink on promo @ Hoe Kee at $399, and I ordered a Blanco tap at $100 discount.. Good deal !! Btw, any advise about choosing the colors for granite sinks? I heard from others that if it's a light color, it would be more susceptible to stains e.g. red curry.. I'm planning to get the black one.
  2. Hi folks, Currently thinking of hacking vs overlaying my new flat's 2 toilets. My flat is one of the left-over unit from SERS allocation and is more than 3 years old, so is allowed to hack toilets. Pros of hacking: - size of toilet maintained - new water-proofing, thus less risk of leakage since house has been vacant > 3 yrs Cons of hacking: - higher cost I've gotten a quote from my ID for $3.2k per toilet, which is inclusive of supply and labour for hacking, waterproofing and laying homogenous tiles for whole floor and wall, and plumbing for taking out and putting back the sink, toilet bowl etc. Tiles can use better ones (~$3-$3.5psf). Any comments on this quote? Another option is ofcos not to touch the toilets at all. A bit wasted to reno toilets becos they are not used at all and only one or 2 tiles need replacement. On the other hand, the tile design and color (yellow and flowers) makes the toilets a bit dark and doesn't fit with our design style. Also worried that the ceramic tile flooring woud be dirty very fast and difficult to maintain..
  3. Hi h4happy, My 2cents worth of thoughts below Guess by asking for the "best" capentry works, there are a lot of factors to consider: (1) workmanship - quality of fabrication? how is the fabrication process? made in where? laminated on-site or in factory? (2) quality of materials - what kind of wood? what kind of laminates? what's the internal part covered in? what kind of hinges, tracks etc used? tempered/frosted glass or mirrors included? what brand? where are these materials made in? (3) design - ***** or just copycat? types of drawer openings e.g. swing and slide, swing-only, slide-only, open-shelves, handles? limited design or color selection? (4) service - drawings? change of designs? how's the aftersales service? easy to rectify defects? (5) price Depending on factors (1) to (4), the price can vary a lot. So sometimes it's not really that straightforward to compare items based on the price alone, e.g. psf. Some can quote cheaply, but factors (1) to (4) might be average or even lacking. So it's up to your choice on what is the best for you . The ID i've chosen is sort of well-known for their capentry works as they have good (1) to (4). But their prices for my capentry is around $20k, which is $5k more than the next best ID I've considered. PM me if you are interested to know which ID .
  4. I haven't start my reno yet, still looking for an ID. Thanks for the pointers given! Guess I will ask the ID to measure onsite whatever they can, and give me a requote first, before I confirm with them . And it's also good to get the unit price of the items, in case anything changes happen then they can't charge sky-high for the additions.
  5. Sorry to hear abt the mishap. Sometimes it's really hard to identify the bad apples, esp many ID try to be nice and friendly before you sign on the papers. I'm also looking for a reno ID now. Could someone kindly PM me the ID and firm in this case? Thanks a million...
  6. Hi purplec8, Like to find out from you how's your reno experience with altered interior and with your ID, and perhaps the quality/workmanship as well? Mind if you PM me your quotation? My friend had engaged them for his reno last year end, and the design looks good (featured in magazine!!). I think he's quite satisfied with their work, that's why he recommended them to frens. Too bad his ID left the company. On the cost side, his reno totalled up to $50k, so I would agree that they are not cheap. I haven't receive my quotation from them yet.
  7. Hi all, My parents' kitchen is renovated by Everlink some years ago. Some comments on them: 1. The project supervisor did not pay much attention to supervising the reno. He went on reservist and for most duration of the time we didn't see him. Perhaps due to this, one of our requirement was "forgotten" by them, i.e. to lay down the pipe for washing machine water to flow to kitchen toilet. By the time we discover this at the end of the project, they workaround by drilling an ugly pipe through to the master toilet. OMG 2. The quality of the tiles laid around the kitchen basin is not satisfactory. Knocking on them produced a hollow sound.
