Today, hubby and I were walking up the carpark and saw a blue chevy vandalized by black spray paint on the passenger side... It was parked next to the central staircase on level 4A. We felt so painful for the owner (hopefully it is not anyone here). Actually this is the 2nd time we saw graffiti marks on a car at our carpark. Once we noticed a yellow car parked at the washing bay (after midnite) and its boot and car plate were vandalized badly. I think whoever who did it didn't target those cars that parked at some corners. So to all my drivers neighbours... Pls be careful and keep a look out for each other. Seriously it will be very troublesome to remove the graffiti paint on the car... let alone say the heartpain.

Hahaha... and cane his backside until it look like the scratches he made on the cars! But seriously... If we ever happen to see the vandal committing his act, or suspect someone doing it, whether we are part of the vigilante group or not, we have to stop him and call the police immediately. Shivan & Vlanze, please share where you guys parked your cars when it happened? And could you remember which day was it? I usually prefer to park it near the central staircase but now that Soudezne's car kena around that area... I'm very scared to park there already. Maybe can ask the wash car indian guy if he had seen any suspicious person over the past few days.

Droplet.. No one is stopping you to sell anything on the forum if you want to... On the other hand, the voucher will come in handy if anyone is going to buy a mattress and able to save $40 off his/her purchase. When I bought my Simmons mattress, how I wish I had a voucher like this and could enjoyed a bit of savings!

- What Would You Do If You Were Me? - As we welcome more and more great people into the neighbourhood, and getting to know more neighbours who also become closer friends, do we ever think about whether our daily (inconsiderate) acts will cause inconvenience and even health hazards to our neighbours (aka friends)? Recently, I have a neighbour who moved in about 2 months ago, staying above my unit. All is fine and well, until I noticed cigarette ash on my floor near the kitchen window as well as the dining area (which happens to be near the small window where the aircon ledge is). The cigarette ash fell onto my kitchen floor and the dining table in a lump size and ash-like particles. It has become almost a daily activity that we had to constantly look out for such ashes and doing our best to wipe them away or end up with dusty floor and table. We spotted our neighbours (both husband and wife) smoking at the kitchen window and suspected the cigarette ash could come from them as they "conveniently" flicked the cigarette ash out of the window. Imagine such ashes are falling on our dining table when we eat, on our clothes which I hung out for drying overnight and found ash sticking on them the next day morning, and on my kitchen floor after we had done with our vacuuming and mopping, and gosh.... 10-15 mins later, the black cigarette ash particles was spotted on the floor again!!! Argghhhh.....!!!!! I believe we have come to live in a great neighbourhood and we should all the more spare a thought for each other. What can be "convenient" to us may caused inconvenience to others. Dear neighbours, what would you do if you were me?

hahaha... Peace Bro... Peace... Maybe can rent out your window view since you got such a good view

Dear neighbours, Today about 8:30am, we noticed that our tap water was quite cloudy. I thought it was small bubbles from my tap, but realised that it was really cloudy even after allowing the water bubbles to settle down for 2-3 minutes in the clear glass. Did call PUB to check. Staff required us to stay at home if we want them to inspect the water quality. As we are working and no one is at home to open door, they say they can't do anything. If you notice the cloudy water, can you call PUB (1800-2222 333) to lodge a complain and they will come down in 2 hours time. Operates 24 hours. Thanks!

Hello folks! Just now saw a flyer sticked onto the wall of Blk C lift, advertising this RENOTALK forum >> Toa Payoh Blk 79 Kakis. I guess must be from one of the forumers here. Did you all notice it in other lifts?

I work in Millenia Towers, and there is a free shutter service outside City Hall's St Andrew's Cathedral to Centennial Towers. My sis-in-law works in Suntec. Heard that there is also a free shutter service to Suntec at the bus-stop along Coleman St (the road between St Andrew's Cathedral and The Adelphi). It will alight you at two stops (outside Suntec Convention Centre & Carrefour). I don't mind car pooling. I drive to work only when I'm running late but I'll park at Marina Square (cheaper parking fees).

I'm donating the 2 toilet basins. Initially we wanted to bring it to our parent's house to replace the old one with the ones from our new house. But now have a change of plans. Hence we are thinking that before we discard them away does anyone want it?

A while ago I emailed to our MP of Toa Payoh (Dr Ng E H) on the ERP Gantry at Toa Payoh Lor 6, which I have posted in this forum. Here's the reply from LTA: "FEEDBACK ON ELECTRONIC ROAD PRICING GANTRY (ERP) AT TOA PAYOH LORONG 6 FEEDBACK NUMBER: 576855 We refer to your email to the Minister, Mr Ng Eng Hen on 10 January 2008 which was referred to us. We noted your concern with the ERP gantry erected at Toa Payoh Lorong 6. Please allow us to take this opportunity to share with you the reasons for the decisions taken for our road system. ERP remains a necessary traffic management tool today as it has helped to keep speeds on our expressways and arterial roads within the optimal range (45-65 km/h on expressways and 20-30 km/h on arterial roads). You may wish to note that in May 1999, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) announced that the ERP system would be progressively expanded beyond the Restricted Zone (RZ), to relieve traffic congestion along roads in the Outer Cordon area under Phase 2 of the ERP plan. On 6 September 1999, LTA implemented seven gantries along the Outer Cordon and the Central Expressway under ERP Phase 2A, and announced that the implementation of the remaining Phase 2 gantries would depend on the prevailing traffic conditions. There are 10 locations remaining along the Outer Cordon (under ERP Phase 2B) where ERP has not been implemented. These gantries cover the radial roads leading into the city The ERP gantry at Toa Payoh Lorong 6 will help to plug a gap in an outer ERP cordon that seals off non-expressway routes into the city. It will only be activated when traffic conditions deteriorate beyond "optimum speed ranges", which is set between 45 km/h and 65 km/h for expressways, and between 20 km/h and 30 km/h for roads. An expressway like the Central Expressway (CTE) may have more than one congested stretches due to varying number of vehicles entering and exiting the expressway at different locations. This is the reason why an additional ERP gantry is introduced on the northbound CTE namely to allow for congestion at two different stretches of the northbound CTE to be addressed more specifically and effectively. Motorists who use the entire stretch of the northbound CTE will be charged for contributing to congestion at both locations. However, those who pass through one congested stretch will be charged only for that location. This is an equitable approach, as all motorists who use and contribute to congestion on the CTE will be charged accordingly. We will continually review ERP coverage and charges so that our roads remain smooth-flowing. We hope that we have addressed your concerns and seek your understanding in this matter." Smooth flowing traffic can really be solved by ERP? Are the Toa Payoh Residents responsible for contributing to congestion on the roads? Of course we are only the minority but have to suffer because other road users bypass Toa Payoh to avoid ERP. If LTA set up so many ERP Gantries everywhere, then tell me which non-ERP road will not end up being jam? What's the solution for us? "If money can solve the problem, then it's not a problem at all."
-
Yes I agree! Ever since LTA announced in Nov last year, they are putting it up DESPITE strong voices from residents of Toa Payoh and those working in Toa Payoh. It is just a matter of time that we will have to pay money to go home during the evening peak hours. Or in the morning driving home after we sent the kids to school. Joke of the Year: "The LTA spokesman explained that the location of the gantry is unlikely to affect residents as it charges motorists entering into Toa Payoh from Braddell Road who add on to the traffic in the area." The gantry is opposite Beatty Secondary School, just next to the Lor 8 market, towards the Seu Teck Sean Tong Chinese Temple. If you travel via Braddell road and enter Toa Payoh, you will kena. I always thought ERP gantries are built to deter people from going into city. But this is the first time i see they deter people from going into a neighbourhood. There are already 2 ERP gantries before the CTE Braddell Exit (towards AMK direction) which one operates until 10:30pm after the other is off.

Dear Toa Payoh Neighbours, I would like to share something to sidetrack on the usual renovation topics. I wrote to Dr Ng Eng Hen (MP of Toa Payoh) today, sharing my feedback and objection on the ERP Gantry set up at Toa Payoh Lor 6. Although LTA announced that they have not decide when these new gantries will be switched on, I feel that their decision to set this gantry up with the intention of managing traffic congestion where ERP charging will be activated only when traffic conditions deteriorate and warrant the implementation of ERP is really unfair for the residents of Toa Payoh estate. It is common that traffic congestion usually occurs during the peak evening hours. My main concern is that LTA may likely switch on ERP during these hours to ease traffic. I treasure work-life balance and I am about the start my new phase of life as a married woman with the intention of building quality family life with my husband and parents who are also living in Toa Payoh. But if ERP switches on during such hours, then I cannot bear the cost of paying money to go home early. This will add financial burdens to me and my household as I'm also financing my new house, car, saving for a baby, supporting our parents, and trying our best to save every bit of money we can as young married couples. My main concerns: - Why are residents of Toa Payoh being so-called "penalise" by the ERP? - If I choose to avoid paying ERP, then I may have to sacrifice going home early by waiting for ERP to switch off. Then this will have adverse impact on my family life and the time that I can dine with my family members together. - Why must LTA set up so many ERP gantries where there are already 2 ERP gantries before the CTE Braddell Exit? Dunno how many of us will be affected next time by this ERP Gantry. Hope our MPs will speak on our behalf, with cost of living gone up significantly.

Hi tweakmax, I sent in my vote for you today. Hope you'll win! Jia You!

I usually have a handbook to detail down the good food found in Singapore. So not difficult to find where the good food are if I have a sudden craving for some particular ones. Forgot to include one of my favourite stall: - 潮洲自制包点 @ Blk 127 Lor 1 #02-02; their Teochew bao are very tasty and comes in mini-sizes, morning business only. The food centre at Blk 75 Lor 5 has more night stalls if you like supper. Especially like the bak-cho-mee and the 板面 (dry style) as it resembles those I ate in KL.

Hi Alister, Really want to say a big thanks to you for recommending us to Lights Arcade! We finally bought our lights from them after comparing with a few lighting shops in Balestier. Indeed, after quoting your surname, Jane gave us the cheapest pricing among all the shops we were comparing with. We like her service and she's always smiling. Indeed like what you said, when our ID brought us to Lights N Lights, a similar model was marked up by 20% by them (one particular model was even marked up by 37%!). Hence we didn't get anything from them and we went to get from Lights Arcade (this time without the ID around). We are quite shocked to learn that our ID can earn 20% by recommending customers to the lighting shop. By the way we also tried to ask Jane to lower down your two chandeliers which you & your wife were eyeing for. Hopefully she might lower a bit more. Good luck!
