Huge Price Difference Over Custom Made Vs Ready Made Curtain
mummychua replied to CuGu's topic in Renovation Packages
for me i will nv go ikea or spotlight for my curtains, coz the quality of work is different. I seen how curtains or blinds transform a room, so i treat curtains as a impt piece of feature in my room. -
I met a ID thru a friend recommendation. same as you, i find their quotation way too high for consideration. But the ID is quite persistence even after i rejected them. so we met up the 2nd time. this time round i was quite upfront abt the cost. told her the total cost from the company i plan to engage. and the way she try to match is by cutting the amount of work to be done, eg: laying over toilet wall tiles instead of hacking, change kitchen table top from quartz to solid top, etc... after all her cost cutting measure, she still end up quite a few thousands more than the others. at the end i still reject them, why should i pay more for less work. for me i try not to cut the ID too much, they need to earn. but if from a 50k quote they can cut to 40k, i will be very caution...

mummychua replied to Scandipenguin's topic in Reno t-Blog Chat
Thanks for the inform, i will check out at heritage. As for the wood grains tiles, i was told that due to the lines, dirt will get trap and become sticky. Personally dont know anyone with wood grain tiles, no chance to step on it. But they look really nice.- 254 replies

Hey, i'm planning to replace all windows and grilles for my resale 4a unit, need some advise on this. my unit is a corridor unit. is it ok to install alum grilles? i was told to install iron grille instead but they are so much more expensive. am i right to say that grilles along corridor should be fixed rather than sliding? a contractor actually recommend casement iron grille for easy cleaning. but a window guy told me not to have any keys for corridor as many key lock can be easily open. another issue is to do white powder coat the alum grilles or not. was told that dirty will stain it and its very difficult to clean. is that true? or should i just stick with plain alum? whites grilles looks so much better. last question, for yard area which is a better choice? casement window or slide?

Hi Harriette, can i have Mr Yeak and William contact? May i know how long it took for Jay to come back to you on all the drawing? and how long did ur renovation take? I'm in contact with Jay for my reno but they seems to need alot of time for the planning and my hb is chasing me to confirm and start work in another 2wks time, we are hoping to move in before the start of chinese 7th month. very tempted to engage them for the reno but hb dont want the wait. haiz... will you be able to share how with Jay involvement in your reno helped? since im having a very simple plan for my place, i too wonder if its worthwhile engaging a designer for the job. on another hand, im quite hopeless with colors match and super flicker minded.

i had seen it before in a condo with higher ceiling. but even so, the storage space is not very big and you wont want to put heavy stuff in it, in case it collapse. plus u will always need a ladder to retrieve things. not very practical imho.

Hdb Licensed Contractor But Not Licensed Id?
mummychua replied to tamandragon's topic in Renovation Packages
i don't see a problem here. as long as the person who's engaged to carry out the actual work has the licence. ID is just there providing ideas, coordinate stuff for u. -
ceramic uses 18amp power plug, which probably means that it take quite a bit of electricity. for blks that havent gotten their electricity up, it might cause a problem. and for ppl who cook often, it might not be a good choice since heating using electricity is always more expensive. plus ceramic cooker is more expensive than normal gas stove. another choice is induction, i suppose it will take less electricity compare to ceramic since the heating plate doesnt get really hot during cooking. but all your pots and pans will have to be in stainless steel. wont work for me so i nv consider it. another choice is to use a combination of gas and induction or ceramic and induction. anyway all these depends on your cooking style. if you are just a maggie mee cook, anything will work.

everyone is talking about expending the toilet space. anyone hack to make the toilet smaller? due to fengshui purpose, i have no choice but to position my bed in position where i need to shrink the toilet to create walking space. anyone know how long will it take for hdb to approve the hacking permit? im working on a tight time line.

Anyone installed invisible grille on their corridor unit? Understand that the invisible grille comes with alarm system but is it of any use? if a burglar tried to break into your unit, a normal aluminium type of grille can too be cut open right? Anyone have problem when your grille can't be slide open?

Fabrik etc at bukit timah plaza. Used them for my 1st home. Lots of choice, good service and good quality. But I think they are on the steep side. Do compare between diff shops. There use to be alot of curtain shop in bukit timah but now they are the only one left. I suppose it say alot abt them.

Engaged him when I got my 1st place 5yr back. Very nice master, will not ask u to buy those expensive stuff to put. According to him my 1st place isn't good so we just put salt water, brass object to eliminate the bad qi. We did live peacefully in the place for 5yrs, got Preg the 1st mth at the old place. Recently we consulted him again for the search of our 2nd hm. He's very generous with his advise over email and msg. I just email him the main door direction and floor plan and he will advice if this is a good unit or not. He will only go down when the unit is deem good. So basically he's doing the 1st round screening for free. Exchange several long emails with him and often disturb him during weekend. I forgot how much he charges for my 1st place.
