    The struggle is (1) we're paying everything by cash and (2) this might not be our forever home, more like starter home... Hahahaha! I thought of a more "budget friendly" option... Pardon my bad perspective drawing. Wonder if this would give a good effect too. But I alre know my contractor might say I'm siao... Hahaha

    Haha ya I can imagine! Hotel Fort Canning also like that. But I think at the time we never think so much la, I based on Pinterest photos so I aim for whole wall marble. Hopefully when my shower glass panel and my Hansgrohe stuff go up with some decor I can cook up, it will still look beautiful

    Little update of what's happening... Felt a bit demoralized to share yesterday. My hubby takes awful photos so I have none of the rooms. Haha! Will visit tomorrow, probably. The marble veins are more obvious IRL, but I kinda regret not choosing a greyer based tile... Ah wellz. Amazon loots: Rachael Ray's lazy tools (LOVE these whenever I see her cooking on her show) and the Rubbermaid glass storage containers. I wanted to get it in the teal / turqoise color for RR's stuff but there wasn't a complete set. I need tongs! So it sorta kinda worked out cus Rubbermaid's red too. And I support Arsenal. So all's good I guess. Plus Egyptian cotton towels. My hubby is a SUPER bedsheet snob so I think he would enjoy these too. Hubby's gonna be overwhelmed with my RED stuff (he's a Chelsea fan HAHA)

    If my contractor gives me the green light for painting the main door, I might push a little further to get mouldings on it... LOL

    Eh, we're getting for both sides, one side has a clothes hanger; a detergent rack and a normal flat board that is the width of the washing machine? Does that make sense? For the Washer side. For the other side, I'm getting more shelves (all metal) with a higher last shelf so that my bunnies' litter area can fit underneath without feeling claustrophobic. I will once they are in... But we seem to be progressing rather similarly. My contractor has yet to give me a price. If I paint it, I might push a little further and have mouldings on it... Heh heh

    Taobao shipment is finally on its way to me, and about to order my second shipment. Yesterday we had a minor boo-boo with Edmund, turns out their tiler is super old-school and kind, so they decided to help me round the edges of my shower kerb... Which I find not very nice. I tried to reconcile it in my head so many times and tried to like it, but it's really really very ugly IMO. Wasn't what I expected at all. I reflected to them and I also know that the uncle had to work harder on it since it's an extra step (than to construct a 90 degree kerb). I feel so horrible and difficult! But this wasn't told to us beforehand and I don't think anyone has a rounded kerb so I didn't think to mention it to them beforehand. Right now it's the lull where you put all the money into the renovations and furniture and nothing is in yet... So the excitement is abating a little as the wallet gets lighter and lighter. Tell me this stage shall pass! Hahaha!

    I think all newer estates have to have it. Even my dad's old 20+ year estate also have. You are lucky! Haha!

    Yeah I agree. My contractor is the same. He's really quite honest IMO. He told me all 3 options can be done and painting isn't the nicest, but all 3 options aren't lasting. Later one year later spoil then very wasted. So many people laminate the main door though, but for some reason I can only find one t blog now who did it. Haha. So hard!

    His recommendation is I keep it the original color one lor. Just that I insist and insist cus I don't want the whole house to flow with a theme then got a jarring main door! And the HDB fire-rated doors so expensive. Wanna change also $1k+.

    He insists laminate will not last, and he doesn't like to do non-lasting things for people. And i trust him la, he's been right so far. I think need to sand then can paint. Mine is a contractor, he is a very practical guy so he says he'll try to think of something to make it look nice. But tbh, how can it be uglier than the colour now... Hahahaha Internal room doors should also be the same material provided by HDB right? Those are often painted. Just main door not many people paint...

    From all my research these few days, I will be one of the very very very very few who paints the new main doors. Most paint the inner room doors (which I didn't opt in for). Contractor still insists laminate will be a bad choice!

    Does anyone know anyone who's painted the new BTO's main gate and doors? It's sooo expensive to change it but I sorta-kinda hate my BTO's main gate and main door. The gate, not so much, but the color of the maindoor... NO! My contractor insists that laminating it is not lasting (though I know lots of people do it) and recommended spray paint (which is super expensive) or normal painting (the cheapest option of the 3). I know the ang mohs in the US love to paint on veneer (the HDB main doors are veneer doors, right?) so I wonder if anyone has done it? I want to paint it a soft grey and my gates a matte black. Thoughts?
