  1. Hi Jarbebe, That was a relieve... Malui..hopefully we dont have to handle problems like this...i am already soo cash strapped...and i dont want to think of my laminate being eaten up my termites!!! I wanted to just put laminate flooring for my bedrooms..and use homogeneous for the hall...in the end, i had to laminate the whole house coz..mine is a new flat which has a flat cement creed (not the rough one which is needed to place homogeneous tiles). Thus, many contractors told me its better to put laminate as the cement screed is already there..if i choose to put homogeneous, than i have to give them hacking cost..for the floor to be made rough so that sand can be laid prior to the homogeneous laying.. in the end i decided..it would be best for me to lay the laminate for the whole house..i like laminate too..warm feeling.....just that i feel that i paid alot more....after GST since it was not absorbed..coz i got it from supreme laminates directly when they were having a booth at a megastore.....thinking it was cheaper...if only i had given it to my reno contractor, he would have done it for cheaper and coz he was absorbing the GST..and he told me he would have given me additional perks as well if i had taken supreme laminate under his reno contract....but neverthelss, the sales guy at supreme laminates is really very helpful and nice..i informed him of my termites fear and he told me his guys will personally come down to explain the chemical process that they usually do to prevent this.. what could be best done to prevent termite infestation....also, he does call me often to check out when im gonna start my reno...so at least he has not left me hanging.. Hoping that since mine is a new flat..(currently there is only cement)....there wouldnt be any problems..i just have to take extra care to ensure all this..sigh...its a low floor though...Jarbebe, can we conduct our own regular checks to ensure that there are no termites...or even if u check, it wont be evident until a later stage? Jarbebe, will head your advice and do up my entire reno and then get supreme to place the tiles..closer to feb..heard it will only take abt 2-3 days for the entire laminate to be laid for my flat....and will probably let loose some black ants..and put yellow light..keke.
  2. Hi Jarbebe, I am having this fear that termites will eat up the laminates for my whole house when I lay them too (hall and 3 bedrooms)!!...I have engaged supreme laminates and intend to do my reno only in sept or oct as im only shifting in in feb next year...earlier when i surfaced this issue of termites eating up laminates to my supreme sales person, he informed me that termites will not eat supreme laminates as it is hardwood and also because it has been chemicalized and termites dont eat up chemicalized woods.. Now Im getting soo worried to see that you have actually encountered that problem!! Were the termites already present in the flat and it was overlooked when the tiles were laid or they just started growing on the laminate? Englighten me! Thanks!
