Well, since my flat is a resale, I dont have any choice since the previous owner already done the trunking. However,I added a unit in my LR and placed it on the section of the wall which separates the LR and the MBR toilet. So the trunking goes thru the toilet and the aircon is mounted directly over the hole in the wall so that no trunking is needed

Been there before and not exactly cheap. The problem is if we put too nice or too expensive stuff outside the door, it may be gone pretty fast.......

I got the Samsung LA32R81BX for my MBR and LG42LC7R for LR I have no complains for both (nothing is perfect) Some reference: 1. If you watch fast action stuff like F1 racing, or soccer etc, you might want to look for models that have fast response time, ie 5 ms or lesser, then you wont see shadow as much as compare to those with slower response time 2. If PQ is your life, then you want to consider plasma as they still have the best PQ all round. 3. If you are audiophile, then u jolly must know that most TVs' speaker sux (1 reason why most brands give free home theatre systems) 4. Go near the display sets and feel if the TV screens radiating much heat.
-
lol..when I felt it was too big, I was sitting less then 2m away (cos sofa not delivered yet) !! Seems like there's a revival of plasma due to improve in technology and stuff. But I decided to stick to LCD because I still dont like the reflections on the plasma screen (new models claim that there are no more reflection, but you have to see if for yourself) But if u can afford...go for laser tv ...

For my 42" .. My sofa is roughly 2.5 m away. Anyway, it is really up to the individuals to determine whats most comfy to their eyes. Actually the Dist=2xTV Length is a rule of thumb which many sales persons from different shop different brands which i find it is generally true.

) I still meddling with my home entertainment system cables becos I didnt expect to have 1. Dunno where to put the woofer...cos my console is not designed for it One i have it figured out, will post and share
-
Yup 37" should be perfect....I got 42" think its too big, but lucky my LR is long so can adjust the sofa abit further

Dear bee joy, like Linggie has mentioned, I am our neighbour across road at 118A. It is very much depend on the TYPE of curtain or blind you choose, thickness of the window grill and space around the window. For example, my guestroom's window does not have a latch/spacing above it, so i have to use brackets that are about 4 inches long to hold up the blind railing which is not very nice. Another thing to note is, try to flush your curtain around 1 inch of your window, cos it wont be nice if you have a big gap between the window and the curtain. Ultimately, you need to get your curtain man to tell u the pros and cos on the various type of curtains/blinds and how it is being installed, ask them if the railings/bracket will be concealed or very visable. Like I chose roman blind for my MB, so whenever I pull it up, I have to straighten out the creases but its pretty nice when its down. I have panel curtains for LR....effect is nice, you can consider if it suits your theme Yeah loh...you should able to get good deals....too bad i got mine already When you buy, make sure they allow you to do 1 time change should you change your mind abt the model before delivery

Hi folks, Ive moved in to my unit for 2 mths already. So here's somemore experience to share with you (which may or may not be relevent) 1. Be sure to ask how's the curtain or blind railings going to look like once installed. 2. Check the bomb shelter door if it can be close easily and also the rubber hose around the inner door frame which tends drop off after sometime because of the lousy glue that they use 3. If you want to have many pillows, queen size bed is not enough ..hehe 4. Test the aircon before anything if possible, because it will be tricky rectifying any problem if u already painted or have concealed the pipes 5. If you are getting a big TV say 37" and above, try to have the distance between the tv and sofa be 2x the length of the TV to have the best effect. 6. When designing your tv console, take in the factor of a home entertainment system (esp the location for the woofer, speakers etc) 7. Try to use electrical door bell instead of wireless because in the event of lightning, chances that the door bell will ring non stop due to the stastic electricity in the atmosphere (was told by the electrician) 8. Be careful if you want to do a platform for the fridge. Its best if you know what fridge you want to buy 1st and then give the dimension to your contractor. It will be real headache if you done your platform and then cannot find a suitable fridge that fits. Hope this helps and to be continued if I can think of more PS...anyone knows where to get nice door mat for the front door???

Well, about giving key, I guess its really case by case, very much depend on the parents themselves. In my case, both set of parents totally hands off approach, so we gave my mom a set who is staying just across the road (besides we go home for dinner everyday). There are advantages like my mom can come over to wait for any deliveries or help supervise the part time maid if we both cannot be there. I hope things work out for you folks who have "parent" issues

Hi Linggie, They normally use special cardboard to protect the flooring. Make sure you dont let them remove them prematurely.

Hi guys, A quick warning to you on the horrible service from this particular furniture shop located in Furniture Mall by the name of LA XXXX. The story goes this way: 1. 1st delivery was on time. But they sent a set which had long and deep scratches and dirt and even roaches' droppings. Yet they claimed that this was a brand new set from the box and they wouldn't know the condition until it was taken out from the box. The set they sent looked just like how a set on display for few months or year would have looked. 2. When Monday came, they called and postpone the delivery to Tuesday without any explaination. 3. Tuesday, they sent a set which was a couple of inches shorter in length then the one we ordered and asked if we could accept it???!!! We rejected so they took it back. 4. They arranged to make the 3rd delivery today but then no show AGAIN, this time without even calling me or my wife. This episode caused us much time and inconvenience and angrish. So dear neighbours, please take note!

Ok there's a few tips which I have learnt during my reno: 1. Cheap reno package doesnt mean is good deal. This is because the contractor may be using subpar materials which you cannot tell until too late. 2. Have thorough understanding of the entire reno process, ie changing the lock 1st or paint the door 1st, etc etc 3. When you plan to have anything hanging from the ceiling or wall, do consider if you house is very windy or you might end up with unwanted wind chimes 4. Ask your contractors for plenty of spare tiles and paint 5. When your designs involve more then 1 materials, you should consider the workmanship (esp at the joints) when they combine those materials together, ie when you mount a panel of glass onto your feature wall. 6. The paint colour on the wall is always darker then when you are selecting from the sample books To be continued.....when I think of more ^^

So I'd be your neighbour across the road ..hehe I must say the entire renovation thingy really took alot out of us, physically, mentally and financially and for the whole process, we made some mistakes but gain some valuable experience. Anyway, I hope you have amuch easier time then me. All best!!

Dear Green, I am sorry to hear you are having some problem with your bf's and his family. Sad to say, when 2 person get married, its not only abt them but the 2 families as well. No matter how accomodating and much you willing to give in to your bf's family's demands, it will come to a point that you will not able to take it and by then it will be really messy to sort things out. Sad to say, I have to agree with nemofc when she said you might have to reconsider the r/s if things turn out better Anyway, whatever your decision is, be sure that we will be here to support you. Hope all's well in the end and you will be our neighbour. Good luck!!

You are not the only one kana chased out the guard. Yesterday, as I was walking along Jalan Membina, Ive seen a few ppl kana chase off already.. Looks like indeed alot of ppl like us very kan cheong. Hey folks, my reno starts today, wish me luck and hope its a smooth and problem free process.
-
Haha enjoy your shopping..but dun like me happily happily buy buy....now spent beyond budget
-
Haha wow you really kan cheong but sounds pretty fair if they let u change model/color later. May sure u drag your ID go with you for the final selection. My ID specifically told us not to buy anything significant without him. He spent last weekends shopping with us and select color/material for our furnitures, advising us on the prices as well as bargaining for us. Quite fun actually.
-
Hi XLan I noticed that you already bought some of your furnitures. Did you get your ID to go select with you??? Cos if you for some reason change your designs or color scheme, then you may have a problem with the furnitures you already bought.
-
hey loobhlinda, I heard from few peoply saying that it is more expensive if you add this and that after you signed the initial reno package. So you may want to take note.
-
Can share your excitement. My own reno starts on this coming monday...wish me luck that it goes smooth smooth and no addition cost anywhere..
-
Hahah good for you. Time, $$, effort saved. Anyway, i am curious, how much u guys are paying for the flats directly from hdb???
-
Yeah serious....my friend who's at the crime scene called us for help, that time I also have no solution.
