Hello congz. Nice to hear you are following our blog closely! We hope we wouldn't disappoint. You can see our floor plan layout in our very first post, but with the wall between Master and Bedroom 2 hacked and door changed. We did that after consultation with our fengshui master. So that may not be applicable to you. I am sorry but we would not be sharing our renovation costs breakdown. Good luck and have fun on ur journey too! Hello stealth0128! Great minds think alike! Ours is standard flat. No floor no door. Which is great cause we don't have to have additional costs to hack and overlay. However, we are overlaying our kitchen and toilet wall tiles though! I will PM u our Kompac cost!

Hello all! Sorry I haven't been updating for a while. Got too busy with work! So many proposals and projects! My head is going burst. Luckily my ID went on a small hiatus to settle his own stuff. If not, I may have more stuff to handle! *CHOY* Anyways, we have still be *ahem* diligently checking on our flat once in a while. There were still some works though not much. Our craftstone wall is finally completed! Well except for a few pieces on the top left hand corner. It has been fully laid now. Look at this beauty.... We choose the raw feel. Meaning no painting on top. Just white grouting. But grouting is not totally up yet though~~~Love the effect! Seems like the decor at some restaurants! :-D View from the aisle. Close Up view In the meantime, we managed to get the HDB guys to do the free cement screeding in our bedrooms. Our ID did our tiles too high. End up we were informed that the amount of free cement screeding was exceeded! The very smart husband just diam diam and quickly left the house. The next time we come back, it's all done! Hopefully we don't get any back-payment. A view in the master. The height difference allowed for our HERF flooring.

I'm not sure how u call it but it is harder than the normal partition wall, with metal bracket as reinforcement.

7 June 2014 The partition for my WIW in the master is done! View from the door. Sleeping on the left and Study on the right. View from study. View of living with the false ceiling and feature wall partition up. Today is laying of the craftstone wall! Laying in action. Preliminary works done! Looking pretty rustic!

False ceiling. Partition wall up. Inside the master. Living. Things with my ID got slightly better. Had another thrash discussion and we managed to get him to remove the grouting and re-lay in darker colour at no additional cost. Results are definitely better and more consistent with what we had wanted initially. We don't feel so imbalanced now at least.

A post-dated event. Construction of our feature wall partition wall, as well as the false ceiling on 31 May 2014. TV console area. Blocking up.

Here is the post about lights which we got from Taobao through OOPS.sg. Very cheap lights but we don't know the quality yet as they are still on a ship in transit. Some pictures of the interesting lights we bought. Walk-in Wardrobe Bedside Lamp

Like many other forumers here, we decided on finding an ID instead of contractor as we thought an ID would give us ideas on how the renovation should go given that we are noobs. We consulted a couple of them. - Brim Design (I** Y***): We booked a consultation with him. Drove all the way down from the west to his very nicely decorated office. Spoke to him for 0.5 hr or so and left feeling enthusiastic about the quote that he is going to give. Of all the so called IDs we've consulted, he is really an ID because of his fresh ideas. He didn't really give a lot during the consultation and yet he made us wanting to be surprised by him. We told him of our budget (30-40K then) and we did not get any reply back from him again. Called him back again to remind him. Clearly he had forgotten about us and said that he had to check. And we never ever got a reply from him AGAIN. - Intradesign (A*******): Pretty office, nice lady. Told us upfront that they only provide lump sum quotations. We wanted breakdown of costs and immediately we decided to scrape her off our list. -Nid Design Studio (S**): Same as Brim, we ended the consultation with him feeling very enthusiastic and excited. In the end, he got another colleague to follow up with us. We went down to review his quotation and was disappointed that everything that his colleague has designed for us is not what we had initially discussed with him. Decided not to engage an ID who threw our job to another colleague. -Summit Design (K****): An extremely nice person. Introduced us to the HERF flooring and Kompac Plus tops when all the other IDs know nuts about it. Patient and keen on following up. Probably because he hasn't got the job yet but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. Very courteous and nice. Although lacking a bit on the design flair as he seems to be more apt in modern designs. His quotation to us is also the lowest. We went down to one of his past projects (well not his, but his colleague), but felt that they are lacking in the workmanship. We decided to drop him. He is so nice to ask us have we settled on an ID and when we told him he is rejected, he even wished us well. *KAM DONG!* -3D Innovative/Innovations/etc: Another contender. We went down to his past project (he did a scandi theme before and got featured in SQ RM) and indeed his design is kind of what we wanted. Carpentry works are also better than Summit. Although a bit on the pricey side, we still decided to engage him as we thought he would be more knowledgeable and experienced in what we want and thereby more capable to do a good job. Initial journey was nice. He was also good enough to join us at a furniture show to help us choose some sofa and dining table and what not. Very fast in reply and follow-up. Exactly like what some fellow forumers over here says. (a recent check shows the post was written in 2011) And then we signed the contract. We find ourselves doing site visits to check on his workers. He speaks well and does a great job in selling. But we are starting to find that the work we see was not what was promised to us. Perhaps this happens to other IDs as well but it is really saddening to see so much money being paid and things are not done according to what you want. My reno is still undergoing. I am not going pin him down yet and say they are a bad ID company. We have expressed our concerns and again we hear some promises. We hope all these promises can be met.

Normally the sticky feeling you will only get with vinyl flooring? I got the sink from Heritage. It's really nice in the sense that it has customised drain tray and chopping board which fits nicely on the sink. So you can have a flushed surface and also much more table top space! It is slightly more ex than normal sinks but you do pay for quality.

Nice! Once you start you can't stop! My man and I just blew 7K on a pair of standing speakers. Next up! Vinyl Player! -
More pictures of our kitchen. It's the only place with most of the work done. The other side... The washing kerb... There are still a lot of things pending... - Aircon piping - Electric works - Water heater - Brick wall - Carpentry - Lights/fans installation It's really an exciting, tiring, learning journey! Little did I know there are so much knowledge and things to do behind building a home together with your loved one. Logistics, money, time, management, etc. Happiness, unhappiness (when reno things don't really go according to your plan). Alright I am a perfectionist. But hey if I am paying so much, I should at least get what I wanted right?! ROAR. Sorry just grumbling from some reno hiccups. On another note, all my lights from TaoBao are arriving soon soon soon! Just paid the second payment and we should be seeing those babies in less than a month's time. Let's hope and pray this has no hiccups! I'm using OOPS.sg btw. Quite nice and very fast replies and follow-ups. And cheap too! Shipping by the volume and via sea, even cheaper. I would highly recommend for the service I've experienced up till now. Will update once I received the goods!

Here are some more updates to our renovation. Basically the tiling works are done. No pics of my lovely blue floor tiles in the living. My contractor has covered them with corrugated paper. But still some pictures to document the end of the first stage! There are some issues with my grouting colour in the kitchen though. It was supposed to be darker in colour. I'm going down on friday to confirm and hopefully I will like the colour enough to proceed to next stage of renovation. If not, the contractor will have to remove the whole thing and re-tile. 28 May 2014 Kitchen works. White subway with grouting too light for my liking. ROAR! The fridge curb is up! View from the kitchen. Very bright! The common toilet. I just want to show the kerbs. LOL The master bathroom, with concrete screed tiles. Basin and WC off, pending for delivery from Heritage! The green bean we sprayed all around during the first day we opened the door. After so many weeks, against all odds, it sprouted from within the mini sand bund my contractor made!

Relatively new product. Of course not as popular as quartz or granite cause it's not really 'tried and tested' yet. We had initially went for kompac plus... Then to quartz.... And now I'm back to kompac plus.... Lol. I have a granite dining table top though haha. Still able to give you that industrial look if you want. ;-)
