We are thinking to replace all the windows. They are at least 12years old. Upon checking, most are still in working condition, barring a few loose locks. Any resale owners to giver a pointer or two?

The work part = Drop can be achieve if only re-tiling and not overlaying (unless originally there is a drop). The restriction part = Do whatever you want provided the HDB officer never get to use your toilet.- 686 replies

Ohhh...the titles sure look blink blink!, Are they slippery if wet? Purple....Me like

It is more of a structural and beam issue. And yes PE will get involve, HDB will take a long time to have an answer. The answer does not means approval as well. Anyway, the 2 sides will be covered with top hung cabinets, leaving only a small portion of the beam exposed, making it a good place to hang a clock as well.

Yup, if cooking, the fumes either escape to the living room or to the service yard. Given these choices, the viable one is definitely the yard. Most folks don't cook everyday or wash clothes everyday, cant fathom the need to "tear" out one part of kitchen and make it into a designated service yard.

Hacking of Service Balcony Hacking of the walls at the service balcony done and completed. Now the kitchen will look airier and more spacious. Before After

Agreed on this part but ID/contractor have to earn a living. By cutting them out on numerous parts, we may be saving bits and pieces but may jeopardise the overall renovation. In our case, we are only tiling the toilets and kitchen, so the cost and "cuts" are not that extensive compared to living room and bedrooms.

Our ID, Mr. Foo is very kind to accompany us to select tiles. Given it was a Sunday, we really appreciate his advice and assistance, We went down to Hafary at Balestier spent about 2 hours and selected all the titles we needed. Luckily we are not too fussy and thanks to Mr. Foo for his input on the combination. We kept things simple, nothing too fanciful or outrageous, one that come last for years to come. I chanced upon the blog of June and finish the blog within hours. I like what I saw so I spent some more time looking for more information and then I found Ms. Chocobanana’s thread and finally the Facebook page of Custombox. The missus loves some of the design of Foo and requested for an appointment to meet up and the rest is history. Foo is an earnest chap who takes pride in his work. He listens to what you want and work along the line but adding some fine touches along the way.

Just a side note, the custom study table likely to set you back 1k up, ever consider to buy from TB or Tmall since you are already buying things from there? There are some standalone tables of various depths that caters to your needs, may save you $500 or more. Of course, with custom carpentry, you get exact fit. Standalone offers more free play.

Selection of ID Spent a fair bit of time looking around for ID/contractor. Actually went down to do site visit as well, overall experience is pretty good, except for one. He is a young chap, spent 2 hours talking to him in a coffee shop but in the end he did not manage to quote me. In fact, he introduced me to his senior, perhaps he was too intimidated by the conversation we had. Anyway there was no follow up and I back off as well. There is another ID I went to at Tradehub 21, the one near the coffeeshop (cant rem the name). ID was Elcy, she is nice and pretty creative, offering a fair bit of design themes and ideas. She is worth a shot. She offered some perspectives which others did not mentioned. After scouting around, I realized most IDs mainly listens to what I want; few offered more ideas or different perspectives and the prices ranges from 50K plus to 70plus, with variation in items offered. This kind of makes things difficult when doing comparison. Always seems to be missing some things here and there.
