I am pretty particular about the result hence need to put in more effort. Seriously, most will not find the time or maybe the effort to do it my way. To a certain extend, I think my presence there is pretty intimidating for the flooring guys. Their went about their work while I hang around doing my cleaning. Anyway despite all these efforts, a small lump managed escape the cleaning and the end result is a slight bulge on the vinyl, magnified under lighting. The timely discovery was rectified by removing a few pieces of vinyl to reach the lump. Defect area was laid when daylight is ebbing. Vinyl is actually gaining popularity. It is actually the same as Evorich's HERF. Just marketed under a different name. HERF is High End Resistance Flooring, it sure sounds more sophisticated than vinyl. Some vinyl are glue on and some using clip. The clip type, we have sellers naming it interlock system. So it is just a marketing ploy to entice consumers. I wont be surprise if the vinyl increase thickness by 1 mm and viola, we have SHERF, S= Super. I had shared some experience in my earlier post if you wanna know a little more.

You will not be wrong going with Taobao in terms of pricing. Quality is there especially for small items, with no much moving part. And you are right with so many things nowadays are made in China, so why pay the premium price in Singapore.

Vinyl Flooring A little experience I wanna share. If you are installing vinyl and laminate flooring, you may want to consider to do a clean up before installation. Think about it, all the hacking, patching, painting etc bound to have a little debris, nitty little pieces here and there. These little pieces will affect the overall finish of the flooring. If the small pieces are not removed, it may not show immediately. This is because vinyl and laminate has a layer of rubber or foam as the under layer. It is over time and adding on of weight on the flooring then the little lump will be more obvious. By this time, you may have move in 3-6 months already. Such issue can be rectify easily but the process is tedious and may face restrictions. With vinyl, you will have to remove from the edge of the wall that is nearest to the defect area. Despite being clip on system, vinyl are not exactly built and meant for remove/refit again. During removing, the edges may flare or buff and result in more defects. Also sometimes the nearest wall has a carpentry sitting on it and restrict access. Prior to installation, no doubt the flooring guys will clean up these are restricted to only sweeping. And it is done area by area ie. they clean the area they are installing and so on. What I had done requires a little more effort and time. I cleaned up the whole house to the best I could. First by sweeping then by vacuuming and finally mopping. It is a tedious and tiring process but it yields good result. Please use a vacuum that is not using a dust bag. Easier to dispose but be prepare for rough usage. Of course not every one have the time or the effort to do it this way but on one hand it facilitates the flooring guys to do a quicker and better job, on the other they know you meant business and will try harder to do a better job. Anyway, I was there for the whole installation process which took about 3 x 1 day session due to timing and the leveling of the balcony area. A point to note, please stop them from working late when there are no lighting in the unit for no one can see if each vinyl/laminate are in good condition.

Dont worry, this is the most irritating phase of renovation. All things in a mess, dusty, debris here and there. Whatever lies beneath will surface after floor been settle and cleaned.

I second on the gas heater, your concerns are genuine but the safety aspect of gas heater are approve by Citygas prior to local sales. Gas leakage are quite unlikely and can be monitor by monthly bills. And I believe you will be airing the area where the heater is as well. If gas leakage is a concern, then how about for the hob then? Flames are visible but not expose and not easily be in contact with anything as well. For the vinyl flooring, you can always try other brand. Awareness for Evorich is higher compare to other brands as they did a good job in advertising. After looking thru and comparing, I deem other brands no difference between them and Evorich. I used Krono-O by the way. I had a short write out at the below link. The price is great (approx. $5 psf) and I have no qualms about the quality. Price is subjective, mine area is significant so one may not get the same price if doing like 2 bedrooms size only. http://www.renotalk.com/forum/topic/63586-back-to-the-west/page-4 -
Err....am not sure about the gross and nett issue. From the brochure I have on hand and the site info I read, I think the salesman is giving you BS. The site under Technical Specs says usable volume of cavity is 67L. http://www.bosch-home.com.sg/products/cooking/ovens/HBN331E2J.html?source=browse Anyway $999 is a good price, how long is the warranty?
-
FYI HBN331E2J is also 67L in capacity. How much did you pay for the HBG23B550J?

This was how the balcony look like after all had been tore down: Now after the white powder coated full height window & grill are installed. The balcony leveled and flooring laid. Pardon the dark pictures.

I have an open air balcony which we built a full height window to enclose it as part of the living room. Not really a fan of open air balcony, i deem it as space wastage more than a luxury. Cannot imagine myself sitting there in the morning with a cuppa and reading paper. Looking around the neighborhood, I realized many had relegated the balcony to a laundry area and THIS is the very thing I wanna avoid. So in order to make it part of the living area, the floor needs to be leveled. HDB had since enforce rules regarding leveling with concrete. One would have to employ a PE as well as using light weight cement/concrete to level up which is costly and time time consuming. Else there is only one other method. Do it with wood. However this will have a hollow feel to it but fortunately that is the end of the unit and should have limited activities. Guess this is called "You cant have the best of both world." There was a slight hiccup during the construction as I am not too please with some workmanship issues which I brought up to Mr. Foo. He, went a step better and dismantled all the platform himself for he found some gaps issues not to his liking. Kudos to him on his diligence and not letting it pass. He liaised with the flooring guys to redo the whole platform again. This time, only with his supervision and approval, the floors are laid.

It is base on the declare list, else Amcon wouldnt ask for it in the first place. Items packaging have no price listing as it is domestic delivery, no packing list/proforma invoice require. Hence the list to be submitted for customs checking and declaration. Any other experienced folks, please correct me if I am wrong.

Here you go, these are the pics from fellow blogger vicx1234 whom had installed and in used for months. Generally the packaging are pretty solid, the sink itself is sturdy and dont sound hollow when knock on. Shipping base on AMCON rates will be RMB550 + SGD35 (Documentation) + 7% GST RMB550 is for 1 cubic metre, so you are better off buying more from Taobao to make up the volume.

They come as it is. Dont need any polish. What you are looking at are min $1.5k at cost and these are 4 out of the 20+ figurines in the series.

It is quiet easy to search for them in Taobao and Tmall if you already know the brand, unless they are small items. Anyway, below are the links: Grohe Flagship Store : Choose what suits you better http://groheqxlj.tmall.com/index.htm?spm=a220o.1000855.w5002-6331956827.15.J3FNfc Sellena Hoepage - Various design to choose from. http://shilinna.tmall.com/index.htm?spm=a220o.1000855.w5002-5518343967.2.foqKMT
