  1. Hi, everyone!!!! I have done my home renovation and electrical works almost a year now. My electrician is a separate contractor from my ID and company. After the electrical works are done, my electrician seems reluctant to carry out electric testing. While the testing fee is not charged in the bill, they put it in the contract. Every time I call them, they would say to wait after national day (last year), to wait after new years day, my tester quit and we are looking for new testers... This dragged on for a year. May I enquire some questions to clear my doubt? - What are the consequences of not doing electrical testing? - In case of fire, or some damage to property due to electricals, does HDB still honor my fire and house insurance? - How can I check if my electrical contractor is licensed? - Which is the board I should approach to check? - Who else can I ask to do testing? I heard from some contractors, each contractor has their own testers and testers from other contractors will not want to test if the electrical works are not done by them. If anyone can shed some light, I will be greatly appreciated!!! Perhaps this will end my 1 year of worry and agony T_T Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  2. Hi, Mace. Thank you very much for your help. I took off the light cover and saw the ballast, made in Australia and is the same as each light in my house. I'm thinking of taking out another ballast from another light and place it here, but afraid that something will get screwed up somewhere. Just curious, as the other lights, installed at the same time, are not faulty, could it be the humidity in the toilet that is spoiling the light there? Thanks!
  3. Oh, it is those round donut tube. Is this called hamburger light? Looks more like donut. Please pardon my ignorance in this field... Thanks!
  4. Hie, everyone! I have a flickering toilet light that doesn't come on and flickers all the way. May I know which part is faulty? The balast, the tube or that little tube (starter?)? I've changed the same light once before, changed the tube and starter, 2 months ago. Shocked to see it spoils so easily. Any advice is greatly appreciated!! Thanks!!
  5. Hi, everyone!! My common toilet has a step, separating the wet area with the toilet bowl area. The step is more than 50mm higher than the wet area. A HDB fellow came for inspection once, than mentioned the above step is too high, making the floor heavy with cement and tile works. My ID approached the HDB fellow, and after discussion told me that the HDB guy can overlook this issue if the owner, ourselves, can accept it. We can, and works completed. We moved in. Now, after a month of moving in, and after 2 1/2 months after the above incident, the HDB fellow called us again and mentioned we have not changed the common toilet floor and are violating the HDB regulations. We told him that our ID said that as long as we can accept the step, it is fine. He mentioned no such thing. We called our ID and the ID was furious about the miscommunication by the HDB fellow. We will be meeting each other again to discuss. My fear is that we need to hack the toilet, which is beautifully tiled, equipped with vanity top and a wooden bench. Not to mention the toilet bowl and wall tiles too... What can we do about this? I don't think it is my ID fault as I don't believe he will take the risk with his work, career and license, if any. I just don't want to hack the toilet, it will cause so much inconvenience and dirt and dust in our beautiful new home. Help! SOB...
  6. Hi, thanks for replying. I am just hoping to get more opinions. I know install on false ceiling only is dangerous so that means dont install? Then my fan buy liao wasted and living room will be without fan! How? Agggghhhh!
  7. Hi everyone! I have an ID and a contractor to do electricals. Both are at loggerheads with each other. During the installations of false ceiling, ID asks contractor, before they install the false ceiling, need to put in extra metal support (bone)? Contractor says no need. So I go buy the ceiling fan. Now contractor is saying, no bone dangerous. Fan will drop. Blame him also no use cos the false ceiling already done. Cannot take down false ceiling and my lightings what. So now my major headache is, is the ceiling fan secure when installed and supported by just the false ceiling strength? THANK YOU for any advice.
  8. The quotation puts only ABS trimming but never say thickness of wood loh. Now ID say can put ABS trimming but wood is 1 inch see I want or not. But 1 inch for a large feature wall so flimsy... /cry
  9. Hie!! My ID just called me to say my feature wall they do 1.8 inch thick for the wood because it looks solid and more sturdy. However, they say cannot put ABS Trimming now because ABS Trimming maximum can do for wood pieces that is 1 inch thick. Wood thicker than 1 inch cannot do ABS Trimming one. Is this correct? Or am I getting conned? From my viewpoint, it seems that I am forced to choose between no trimming, or a thinner board, both of which save costs for the ID. Please help!!!

  11. Hie guys. I am new to this board and new til I'm green to renovating a house. We got a resale 4 room flat and it is currently under renovation. I went shopping for electronics and such and came up with a list of items to buy. However, our selection has been influenced heavily by salesmen so I hope to gain some advice here, and whether our choices are sound. Will be going to buy this week... Oven: Electrolux EOB3610W/X. The shop's only brand. $660. Hob: Fujioh. Salesman is trying to find out if can install safety valve. We using government gas so safety valve is important. Hood: Fujioh. The newer slim model. People say better suction in Fujioh. Hob and hood total I think around $740. Fridge: Mitsubitshi MRV45S Champaign colour. 385L. $730. Washing machine: Toshiba AW-1160SS. 9.5KG. $530. TV: Looking at getting 2. Samsung 32" R81. $1240 for living room and Hitachi 37LD9000TA (I think is this model), $2700. Air con: People say Daikin is leading brand. Our contractor quote us $2290 for System 3. How are our choices? !! Hope to get some expert advice from the veterans here! Thank you VERY much!!
