Opening A New Chapter Of Our Lives ... 2nd Home In 7 Years
Chunky Monkey replied to Chunky Monkey's topic in Reno t-Blog Chat
It is precisely that. We didn't want the space in the attic to go to waste, so we made it a point to knock down all the walls/partitions to re-introduce light into a typical dark and dank place. Thank you. Glad that you like my attic. Sun tanning in the buff? Maybe if I was 15 years younger, I might take up somebody's dare! Just kidding. Thanks for your suggestion. I did visit the iwannagohome outlet at Tanglin Mall some time back. Perhaps it's time for a second visit. -

It is actually very breezy up in the attic because of the airflow right across. We do not foresee ourselves using the aircon a whole lot. Only occasionally. The attic is my DH's hideout, as well as my in laws' room when they visit us from London. Lounge is still full of electrical appliances. When the mess is cleared up, I will post some lounge pictures. We are actually going to use back a lot of our existing furniture from our current home. It's not easy furnishing 4 floors of space. I think we will make changes along the way. -

I sure hope the children won't want to watch too much TV in future. But I am prepared for the eventuality that they want their own TV sets when they are older. I would be happy to convert the internal space for more storage if the space is not utilised. -
Ikea's runners, although made by Blum, exclusively for Ikea, is still not Blum. That is the quality is not the same. That's why the runners are cheaper.

That's fab news already at the start of the year! Sure! Oh yes, about the stagnant ang bao money ... it's really sad isn't it? I hear the market rate for a 5 star hotel banquet is about $100 per head these days. Is it really true? When I got married, it was $150 per head (only 150 pax at my wedding. DH liked a cozy wedding so that we could mingle with all our guests. And guess what my mother did, to make sure she got her ang baos (according to customs, we had to give her friends' ang baos to her) ... she hinted to all her friends that the wedding was expensive and was not shy to mention the cost per head. Something that I wouldn't do, but my mother really meant business.

Dear Phantom, Happy New Year! May the new year bring the financial industry more sleep, more money and less agro. It has been really nice knowing you. I will take up your offer of a coffee when I can find the time!

View of the Stairwell from Attic There were requests for handrails to be installed, so we will install a wall fixed handrail over the next 2 weeks. Ceiling Fan We were concerned that there may not be air circulation in the stairwell leading up to the Attic, and felt the need to have a ceiling fan, overweighs that of a nice set of hanging lights. And we were so happy when we found a ceiling fan that has such short fan blades and adequate for the stairwell. -

31st Dec 2007 The first round of chemcial cleaning took place today. And for the first time, DH and I were able to heave a sigh of relief. We have some touch ups to do, and the exterior wall needs to be textured and then painted. Give it a couple of weeks, I think we will be ready to move in! Yipee! Here are some updated photos ... Children's Playroom with Full height wardrobes & TV enclave, and cantilever book shelves (to see what the TV enclave looks like, see the picture below) Children's bedroom with Full height wardrobes & TV enclave. Attic Wardrobes / General Storage Right Side of Attic Left Side of Attic We asked for 1 very deep drawer in each unit, so that it can store away our spare comforters, bedsheets & pillows. I love your home, mafiawife! Revamping is only cosmetic change. I can imagine the layout of your home and it's great!

Good idea! Do you have a contact for me that you can refer me to? I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance. -
I have a few downlights in the house that give out a humming sound when I switch them on. I googled about it, and it seems that it's probably because the ballast is loose and thus vibrates inside the light fitting. I was given some ballasts by the lighting shop which I bought my lights from as standy, in case I need to replace the ballasts in some of them. Has this happened to anyone? I have asked for the electrician to come back to check on all the lights in the house. Good thing I have not paid him yet, so hopefully he will be good and come back to sort out the lights.

Your carpentry is looking really good! Congratulations!

LOL! And I wonder why! So masochistic! His staff is far worse. I walked through the wrong door and he shouted at me to move over to the next shop unit. It was a bit hard to hear, and I looked around a bit more, and he raised his voice even louder to ask me to get out! I bought some stuff from Thye Seng in the past, and do remember how unfriendly the boss was. But this time around, I can say he has mellowed and is friendlier! But still very fierce by anyone's standard. Previously, when I asked for stuff, he would point to some obscure corner of his shop and I would still be lost as to where things were kept. This time around, he actually got out from behind his counter and reached out for stuff that I enquired for! That, is service improvement -
Max, you seriously have an issue. I speak for myself here right now. For the record, I did NOT expect to find you saying that you were wrong. Never in my post did I sugges that. So you might want to re-evaluate your own understanding before you come here and sprout your resentment. And no one is attacking you on a personal front. You didn't exactly show your manners. And that statement above about better quality, better price yada yada .... please be specific here. I was only talking about their stainless steel pull outs. And for someone who has renovated several kitchens a few times, I know what I am talking about. Better quality VIBO, certainly. But not in Singapore, and certainly not without costing an arm and a leg. All imported stuff by imported kitchen such as Kitchen Culture perhaps. Better service, definitely. That was what I established right from the start. Rhoyxon does not have the service to be proud of. Please don't make sweeping statements and bring things out of context. Trust you? I for one, don't. Until you have the facts right. In fact, forummers in need of stainless steel pull outs should make a trip to one of their showrooms and check out their VIBO units, and compare their quality with those sold by competitors such as SSC and Hoe Kee. Feel how smooth the runners are, the thickness of the stainless steel used, and fixtures that are bottom mounted and not side mounted, fixtures that are enameled and hence won't rust .... and then decide for yourselves.
-
Max, in all due respect, your posts do not come across as being balanced. You have every right to be miffed by the lack of service the day you visited the store and I acknowlegded that. NOBODY dismissed you. You have to see that. No one said you were wrong to feel the way you felt. Zirk and I merely wanted to make our stance that their stuff are good, and in hope that you will put aside your emotions, and compare the products for yourself. But clearly, you have written Rhoyxon off. Is it a pity? Clearly, that's not an issue with you either. Rhoyxon, of course is NOT the only store that sells quality products, and Zirk clearly didn't say that. BUT Rhoyxon does indeed sell high quality stainless steel kitchen accessories (google VIBO) that no one else sells in Singapore. To think that all the other stores that sell stainless steel pull out baskets are just as good or better .... THAT is in fact laughable. There is no lack of respect for your opinion. It's your myopic interpretation that your opinions are not respected. That is not my case. I was merely hoping you would not cut your nose to spite your face. We are all home owners here, and only want to find the best stuff for our new homes. And that was all I was trying to do. You come across as a well educated man. But your arguments are weak and when you are upset, you get personal. Please. Grow up.

I believe all wood grained lookalike tiles are ceramic and not homogeneous. My tilers didn't use the pvc edging. Maybe they should have. I wonder ... -

50 cent round basket? Still can't protect the surface of the sink really. That dish rack was from Hoe Kee. I have the same one in my existing house. It comes in various width. 60cm, 80 and the longest is 90 cm. I'd have loved a 90cm dish rack but I want my window to look out when I do my dishes, so I have no choice but to shrink the size of my dish rack to 80cm wide only. A friend came to view our new house a few days ago, and noted that our new kitchen looks so much like my current one. LOL. We like our current kitchen so much that we are practically replicating the key layout. -

It's to protect the bottom of the sink (The drainer side of the sink has its own grid as well) as well as to facilitate water flow, especially when the sink is full of dishes. These grids probably come across as weird/funny to most Asians but they are a NECESSITY or standard accessory to European home owners. They work the same way as stainless steel baskets. I have a Foster sink in my current home, and it has a wire basket as well. I can't do without these things in my kitchen sink. I can imagine how these would get in the way for people who have the habit of throwing all sorts of food waste into the sink, as they would get stuck in the grids. We don't do that. We make sure all our plates and bowls are scraped clean of food bits before putting them into the sink to wash. -

These look like the wood grain floor tiles that I have in my new home! How are you liking them? Did your contractor use a rounded edging for the kerb? -
Your new home is taking shape. You must be anxious like all of us who are undergoing/have undergone major renovations!

All the best! Hope to see your work-in-progress photos on your T-blog. I am pretty sure some of these IDs know that they are being discussed on renotalk. So it would not hurt if you tell them that you are a forummer on renotalk, and all the people here discuss their renovation likes and dislikes, and discuss ID's committment and service etc. So that they will not try to hoodwink you with some ridiculous stories. Put them on their toes. Getting referrals on renotalk is a carrot. It should however not be used as a stick, to scare them into complying. They may resent it, and that may spell problems. All the best!

Urm .... I can't recall. But I think it's in the $600 price range. When I got the same thing for my mother 2 years' ago, it was about $800. Yup, prices did come down alright. This is the only American Standard WC I bought for my whole house. All the other WCs are Cotto. Cheap and good from Nam Wah warehouse sale. Cheap cheap.

It better be washable .... I haven't tested it and I hope I don't have to wash my walls ever! But with 2 little children, I am pretty sure I will be confronted with wall washing sooner than later. Will give my feedback about this All in One premium paint as time goes by ... As for the odour ... it actually smells so sweet and nice. I was pleasantly surprised. Oh, there's something that I realised. If your painters are conscientious, they will close all the windows and doors and then paint your walls. No dust flying about to stick onto the wet paint.

Do you mean 3cm or 3 inches? phoenix, I will be having a 6 cm think front profile for my master bedroom vanity counter. I don't know how much more this compares to standard quote but I'm paying $135 sfr.
