  1. Hi, Does anyone know the difference/s between Multi-Lock and Kaba? I have 2 home entrances and 2 sets of grilles. I am thinking of installing lock sets with 'keys alike', so that one key opens all the locks. Any recommendations?
  2. Be careful about buying electrical stuff from outside of Singapore. Lighting comes under the controlled list of items that need to be tested by PSB, thus bearing the "Safety Mark". Some electrical stuff are manufactured without meeting the safety requlations, and may need lead to electrocution or fire. Should something happen as a result of not using "Safety Mark" electricals, your home insurance becomes void.
  3. Congratulations! May your "thrash" moments be without worry ever again. LOL!
  4. LOL. I actually can't remember what they were!
  5. Oh dear .... I posted the link, and no longer can remember the contact!
  6. I have seen Simplehuman. I avoided it only because it's made in Taiwan, even though it's designed in the US. Brabantia does not have soft close. So SimpleHuman is one up in this aspect. But you can also tuck your bin liner (any litter bin plastic bag) inside the internal bin, so as to conceal the ends of the plastic bag. I have been doing this. LOL re your last point/sense of humour.
  7. I was surprised not to find a thread discussing electric rice cookers. Please direct me to an existing thread, if there indeed is one. I have a Tiger (made in Japan) electric rice cooker that takes about 45 min to cook white rice. And apparently 45 min is the norm for electric rice cookers with computerised controls. The old fashioned rice cookers only take 25 min to cook white rice. I am curious what brand of rice cookers you are using, and why? And do you know of any electric rice cookers that take 15 - 20 min to cook white rice? By the way, there is a new electric rice cooker that cooks by induction from Zojirushi & Panasoic (both made in Japan) . These rice cookers weigh a ton! And they are the most expensive for a rice cooker, that I have ever seen. $500 - 600 range. Here's something for you to read about http://www.pleasanthillgrain.com/rice_cookers.html
  8. Do you not have the receipt and namecard of the sales person who sold your Rainbow set to you? Go back to him/her. I have packed up all my documents in boxes. Otherwise, I would be able to get you one of the agent's telephone number. 3 years is a very short time for a Rainbow unit to break down. It should last for years ...
  9. Can your counter top accomodate a 90cm wide cooker hob? If the answer is yes, Ariston has a 4 burner + induction model. I have been using this model for a few years now, and in my new home, I bought the same one. I looked at Teka (which seems to be very popular with alot of people here but no offence, nothing appeals to me in terms of functionality, maintenance and practicality.
  10. My mum is not Cantonese (Hokkein), and she asked for a whole roast pig. LOL!
  11. This is where you need your fiance's help. Ask her to check with her mother discreetly. No answer from here is going to help you "get it right". What is too much, too little, just right in our perspective... may just not be right with your future mother in law.
  12. LOL! I am sure you honed your taste over the years, and that you are NOT a first time home owner. Very discerning I have two that are 8 years old. And they're still working in great condition. Not all pedal bins are made the same. Ikea and Howard's Store (Parkway - I love this shop, by the way) sell very similar ones but the step pedal mechanisms go out of whack very quickly. And how do I know this? My mother bought them declaring that she bought them at dirt cheap prices, and the best part was that the bins look like my bins, and she mocked at me for buying high end bins. But I had the last laugh. Her bins broke so quickly, she was embarrassed but kept using them even those the lids don't open with the step pedal. As the dutiful daughter, I just bought a couple for her, and left them with her maid. She's been using them since. If you have to buy a bin every few months or within a year, you might as well buy a good Brabantia bin and use it for years! It may end up saving you more money. Brabantia bins come in various sizes, denoted by the "litre" size. And there are matte and shiny bins, and come either with a black black lid, or a matching lid. For size comparison, I am using the 12L (size C) for bedrooms and smaller ones (can't remember the size) for the bathroom.
  13. There seems to be a family feud amongst the owners of Hoe Kee. I always frequent the Hoe Kee store at Tanjong Katong Complex. The staff there are really friendly and professional. My main contractor needed to get spare parts for one of the faucets I bought from Hoe Kee, and without first checking with me, he went to the Jalan Beseh store and like what you all have experienced, the guys there threw my main contractor out of the store. I was very shocked and called the sales assistant at the Tanjong Katong Complex store, only to realise that the Jalan Beseh store is not managed by the same people. She didn't want to elaborate, since it's a family run business. But she was apologetic, and asked me to go back to her store, if I needed anything. I wouldn't bother with this Jalan Beseh store but I would not write off Hoe Kee because of this one horrible place. Go to all their other outlets. I just want to share with all of you. My kitchen sink was custom made by Blanco and ordered in by one of the lady bosses of Hoe Kee. When I made enquiries about it, she could well have told me "Don't have" and leave it as that. But she didn't. She asked me exactly the model I wanted and liaised with Germany. The model I wanted was only made for the US market. But she got Germany to make one for me. And to me, that's great service.
  14. You are looking for the 360 deg flip top bins, right? I don't have a brand to recommend. I would recommend "Brabantia" pedal bins. It comes with a 10 year warranty. I only use Brabantia and nothing else. There was once that that I tried a Branbantia lookalike bin for $45 and the pedal mechanism broke after 4 months. Brabantia is expensive but worth it because it would last a long time. And it's stainless steel.
  15. Thank you, phoenix. They are vinyl stickers and they are from the UK.
  16. I do not know this for a fact, but will just pass on the information. And I also can't recall if I'd posted this earlier. Was told that the KDK motor is not as hardy as Crestar's. It was based on this feedback from the store I bought from that we ended up buying Crestar fans instead.
  17. 3 Jan 2008 Today was an eventful day for DH and I. We painstakingly decorated our children's bedrooms with a makeover kit that I bought some time back. I liked them so much, I bought them months ago, and it was only today that we could put use the stickers. We started by wiping our walls clean. Our walls were painted with the new Dulux All In One paint. And the verdict is - the paint is washable as it was claimed to be. When the walls dried, we positioned the pieces of stickers on the walls as intended and then slowly stick them onto the walls, making sure that there were no bubbles behind the stickers. It was hard work, but very therapeutic. I only managed to take pictures of my son's bedroom. Tomorrow, I will take the pictures of my daughter's bedroom. Photos coming right up ... From the first 2 pictures, you can tell that we changed our minds about where the lion should be! And there's the flamingo and turtle The giraffe and elephant ended up next to the bedroom door. The monkey (with height scale on the tree trunk) and alligator are by the book shelves and wardrobe. Then we added the vine to the top of the wall. Followed by the ant and the frog under the glass windows. And paw prints up the support pillar tracing to the tiger. Oh yes. My low maintenance white lami bedroom doors with stainless steel strips. The outline has not been painted yet. With my rowdy children, we figured lami doors are the best, as our veneer doors in our current home, were so scratched up from them, and there were nicks everywhere. I meant "scratched up BY them".
  18. My top 3 favourite caterers. Lavish Dine - http://www.lavish.com.sg/ Purple Sage - http://www.purplesage.com.sg/ Chilli Padi - http://www.chillipadi.com.sg/
  19. If you don't provide a newspaper tube for the newspaper delivery man/boy, you can be assured they will roll your papers up and tie with a rubber band, and then fly it as far as possible to your covered porch. On good days, they stay dry and land where they should. On poor-form days, your papers may land up in a puddle of water or pet urine if you have pets. Be forewarned.
  20. I know ... who knows if they'd rather watch TV programs on their super duper high resolution, digital computer screen of the future! That space is fully convertible to wardrobe space when we need to. My DH thought of it, and factored that changing need in the design of the wardrobe.
  21. Well .... my mother refused to invite some of our cheapskate relatives! Seriously. She was really not prepared to lose her ang pao money! LOL! Your wedding guest book is lovely. The hot stamping is really nice. And your black velvet cushions with the baroque design, are strong contrasts.
  22. Sorry. Yes, $135 pfr (no idea where did the "sfr" come from!). This is for Corian. And it's actually for my master BATHROOM. Not bedroom as posted above. (I guess my brain and my typing won't very coordinated when I posted). I can't recall what colour of Corian I chose. But it's definitely very plain, and without texture. Whereas for kitchen, I chose LG. This is grey with some shimmer in it. Please go to my t-blog for pictures of my kitchen done by Classic Furniture (Tanjong Katong Complex).
  23. The monkeys are really young; one turning 5, and the other 3 1/2! They do watch educational DVDs that I constantly order from Amazon. But I also cannot deny that they like Playhouse Disney, and the older one some times like to watch Cartoon Network, which I hate so much.
  24. ^^ We did pay a little bit more for soft closing seats. It's my first time trying out Cotto and slow closing seats. If things don't work out for me, I am prepared to change all the WCs in the house in the speed of light!
