Anybody Doing Membrane Door For Your Kitchen Cabinet?
Chunky Monkey replied to tingshen's topic in RENOVATION WORKS
Yes, I have done this before. But the name does puzzle me. My cabinet designer calls it "postform'. And no, it does not have ABS trimming. This is shoddy work. My kitchen cabinets have lasted me 7+ years, and it's still in great condition. No peeling of the laminate. It's been only 3 months. So I think you need to call back the carpenter to rectify it. -
Are you sure you want the cheapest? The wardrobes may not last.

Kitchen Tap Attached To S/s Kitchen Sink Shakes!
Chunky Monkey replied to mint's topic in RENOVATION WORKS
Yup. Your ID is full of crap. Don't mince your words. Just call him or get the contact of the plumber to get it fixed pronto. This is what I detest about such bad apples in the industry. Completely unprofessional. A mistake is a mistake. Just fix it. Why come out with all that crap. I can't help but notice that it's so hard to hear "sorry" from contractors/sub-contractors. Irritates the **** out of me. PS: I'm in the midst of my own reno, and I don't take crap. And I have no patience to dance around egos. -
Yes, the wood has warped. And I know it's not the hinges that have sagged. See if you can get your contractor to rectify the problem by using smaller pieces of ply i.e. like patch work. But you create grooves and work it into the pattern of the door.

Just want to share my current experience with engaging electricians. Prices of copper have apparently risen over the past 3 weeks, and hence prices have gone up. But this does not mean that you can be bullied into exortibant prices by your main con/designer or independent electrician. I was orginally quoted $90 for single power point and $110 for double power point. The entire quotation was close to $15K (!!) I compiled all the prices from the recent 6 months from here, and went back to re-negotiate with the electrician. Although I settled for $60 for single, and $70 for double, I know that I could have been able to get cheaper like $50 for single, and $60 for double. These prices are for concealed wiring, and for a landed property. HDB prices should be even cheaper. I hated the fact that there is dishonesty and lack of ethics in the original prices I was quoted. What were these people thinking? That we are idiots and can be taken for a ride? I cannot help but think that the ever so friendly main con whom my family have been using for the past 5 years over several properties, might be in cahoot, to quote me those horrible, original prices. Tip for new homeowners - get your electrician quotes early in the game, so you can get your competitive quotes, without having to dance around your main con/designer and electrician. And who is this Eric by the way? Do you all know which company he is from, and if he runs a legitimate business? He seemed to have freaked when I asked him for his company's name.

Does anyone know the reason why only the basic model is sold here, and not the others like the 380, which can clean bigger spaces? Or is that not a good idea? Would love to hear the reasons.

I am interested in the Scooba. But why is there only the basic model sold locally?

Thank you, applefreak. As you can tell, I have never done a major move before. DH mentioned about using Crown. He used Crown a few times when he relocated from Jkt to BKK to SG. I am thinking using Crown for local move is a kind of OTT. The other reputable ones I have heard are Sante Fe & Allied Pickfords. I want a fuss free move, and as swiftly as possible. As I anticipate a delay in completion of my reno, and I will have relatives coming to live with me in my new home at the end of the year.

Can someone tell me if one of these will fall off stairs? Or does it have a sensor, and is smart enough to know to avoid stairs.

Q1 - Do all movers provide FREE packing materials, i.e. boxes, tapes? Q2 - Do all movers know how to dismantle bed sets, box shelves and fix them back? Q3 - What is the cost differential between complete pack-move-unpack services versus "move only" services?

Has anyone used Sir Move Services?

I just realised that Blinds Gallery does this. http://www.blindsgallery.com.sg/

Sealing Up Of Mini Window
Chunky Monkey replied to wormz777's topic in Ceiling, Walls and Flooring Works
Have you considered why HDB put it there in the first place? Isn't ventilation important, for better air quality and health? If you must seal it up, you just need to put a false wall (gypsum board) over it, flush with the concrete wall. -
Wall Hung/flip Down Ironing Board
Chunky Monkey replied to Chunky Monkey's topic in Electronics & Electricals
^^ I ordered the full sized one. And I was cracking my head where to put this in the home. One option is just to fix it to a blank wall outside my wardrobe but I thought it could be quite unsightly. Second option is to increase the depth of my WiW to accomodate it (it's 59cm wide) but I felt that it was so stupid to reduce the floor space just to do this. Third option is to install it under my Illumiflex Frame (forgo one hanging rod). I am most likely going with option 3. -
Wall Hung/flip Down Ironing Board
Chunky Monkey replied to Chunky Monkey's topic in Electronics & Electricals
Thanks, zirhk. That was what I googled and found too. I decided NOT to waste time to search for a local version. I just ordered one online from the US! http://www.betterlifestyleproducts.com/ -
Has anyone installed this in your home? Any feedback? I remember at one point HomeFix was selling it, including the cabinet that needs to be secured to the wall. I am thinking of just buying the foldable ironing board, and get my wardrobe ID to build a matching wall cabinet to encase it. Any idea where I might be able to get this foldable ironing board?

I can't seem to find a newer thread than this, to contribute. So I am using this afterall. There is a new doors designer called Doors' Plus at 734 North Bridge Road (near Arab St). The boss is a nice and friendly chap, and his name is James Lim. Tel: 9022 4891. His office/shophouse is fitted with some modern looking doors, unlike the common looking naytoh doors that are commonly seen from most door suppliers. His doors are more designer, for the lack of better description. I like his professionalism, and the fact that he speaks English, makes it all so much easier to discuss things. He was patient enough to explain the various types of doors. And yes, there is such a thing as naytoh/ply. Front is naytoh, inside is plywood. I intend to have white door frames and white doors for all my bedrooms and bathrooms, but I have an issue with new naytoh doors that are hand-painted as they always show up a lot of wood fibres or worse, the paint brush bristles break off and get stuck onto the paint on the door. I like a smooth surface which look more modern but it has got to be white. A white smooth surface is possible only in laminates, as advised by James. Spray-painted doors are also available but they are so expensive, and James advised against them. So I selected a white wood grain laminate, and he will cut grooves to stick aluminum strips for a bit of design. Hope this helps those of you who want doors with a difference.

I'm posting back in my own thread to help others who might be needing this information. I suspect this information would only be needed for private homes where the ceiling height is higher, and for new homeowners who like to maximise the ceiling height for floor to ceiling library shelves or wardrobe. (1) Solid wood custom-made library rolling ladders >> DesImage Tel: 6456 1636 (2) Aluminum rolling ladders >> Shan Yang Wood Products. Kim Tel: 6100 8115 I suspect this will get more and more popular because I am seeing more ladders featured in home libraries.

I need to find a supplier who can custom make protective flooring/custom fit mats for a children's room. I am currently using those interlocking foam/PVC mats, but I would like to change to those used in children's gym. Any recommendations?

It is NOT true that sinks with drainers must be over-mounts. Undermount sinks have drainers too.
-
I am thinking of re-skinning a couple of wardrobes in the children's bedrooms. My main contractor insisted that it's not worth it, and that the cost is as close as it gets to making brand new wardrobes. Is this true? I would have thought that re-skinning is cheaper. I am thinking maybe I should get ignore him and send someone else in to do it for me. What advice do you all have for me. And I am thinking of getting a panel of white board (those used for boardrooms and meeting rooms) laminated onto the wardrobe doors. Has anyone done it?

Can someone explain to me what is laquered cabinet door? What is the difference between laquered cabinet doors and laminated cabintet doors? Is it commonly used today? I have a very high kitchen ceiling. 3.3m. Taking 0.3m away for my false ceiling, I have 3m of ceiling height to play with. I am thinking of making 2 rows of wall hung cabinets, and remember seeing a photo in a design magazine (for the death of me, I just can't recall which magazine and which issue it was that I spotted that photo. Basically, I do not wish to waste the height of the kitchen and do nothing. In the magazine that I saw, the bottom row of wall hung cabinets had frosted glass doors. The top row of wall hung cabinets was all white, to blend into the white walls. I guess the ID wanted the bottom row to stand out, and recede the top row into the background. I like the look of it very very much. Question is, do I use laquered cabinet doors or do I use white laminate? Which one is classier looking? Which one is more durable?

1) What do you use to store your rice? 2) Where do you 'house' your rice container? I am wondering if I should dedicate a shelf space for a rice container, with a pull out base, for ease of access. Any ideas?
