^^ That's true. There is a bigger scheme of things. When you burn your bridges with your contractor, he is not going to respond to your post renovation calls to rectify things. Or he would charge you ridiculous prices to get back at you. Honestly, live and let live. It couldn't possibly be a deliberate act.

Singapore Old Man Being Bullied :'(
Chunky Monkey replied to LadyLuck's topic in Men Women Kopitiam Corner!
These guys are a**holes. I am going to send this off to MCYS and ICA to see if they would want to track these guys down. I am disgusted. They should rot in ****. Why make the poor man beg?! This brings tears to my eyes. Can someone who know how to save the video clip down, please save a copy, in case it gets removed before anything can be done. I hate these guys. INHUMAN -
Of course if you argue on technicality, your contractor would have to compensate you. But here, we are trying to appeal to your good nature to let it go. What are we talking about here >> $60?
-
I think this is it, isn't it? Stainless steel support header.
-
Well, I don't know why the contractor would want to do such a hideous thing. You paid good money to get FRAMELESS tempered shower screens. With this thing running along the top of your shower screen, don't you think it spoils the entire look? It's not acceptable, you know.
-
Stainless steel plate? You mean the wall clamps?
-
I don't think the act was malicious. It was unfortunate. I kind of think his would just use putty to fill the hole and use matching paint to paint over it. Good karma. Don't demand for compensation.

Check with your main con if he can add a thin border/frame within the body of your sliding door. Maybe a simple frame that is about 1 ft away from all 4 sides of the door. The carpenter should be able to stick the strip with glue.

Reliable Air Con Contractor?
Chunky Monkey replied to purpledino's topic in Electronics & Electricals
Yes, I agree. I won't even bother with small companies. It is the big companies who have a reputation to upkeep. Try Gain City as well. I have replied you. Good luck! -
Me. They are great. I'm a loyal Ariston fan. Been using them for 7 years, and will again be using them for the next home.

Cost Of Scraping Off Old "protruding" Wall Paint
Chunky Monkey replied to wee theng's topic in RENOVATION WORKS
I am a completely newbie at scraping off wall paint but I can at least say that I tried to DIY, made a mess of it, and then called my main con to rectify what I did. I'd old wall paint falling off, and thought I could scrape them all off my myself, and then repaint with a sealer, and paint the wall all by myself. Well, the loose paint fell off instantly, but the most part of the wall still had paint that stuck to it. It became very uneven. My main con sent in his free lance wall plastering workers and sorted out the problem (I hear there is a team of these wall plastering guys from Malaysia who makes their rounds from home to home in Singapore. Was told Singaporeans do not want to do this type of job) In your case, I am wondering if wall plastering is the way to go? I did check the Yellow Pages, and there are 2 listing of wall plastering companies. Why not check them out first? -
Yes, I'd considered this. The only thing that I have to clear the height of, is the top of the WC cistern (i think this is what it's called) And by recall, I think the height is about 750mm. So starting the last row from the 1m height from the ground would be plenty. I don't have to worry about the 2 wash basins that I'm going to have, because they will be in another part of the bathroom.

I am so unfamiliar with all the technical terms and needed to ask my DH what is it that we have. Sorry, our SingTel Broadband is indeed a ADSL connection. Thank you, yoongf for pointing this out. At this point, I don't think Raymond and I are on the same wavelength. Obviously, he is thinking of one thing, and I am thinking of another. I emailed tecnical support. Will wait for their confirmation and further advice.
-
yoongf, I just called Raymond and asked him again. In case I misunderstood him. He said there is no need for me to apply a ADSL line for my internet. I just need to install a microfilter (sorry, it's not a splitter) to the phone point that I will be connecting to my wireless internet modem, which is my desktop, and all notebooks will be connected wirelessly.
-
Thank you, yoongf. Only "fixed" ADSL I was told, and this is what's said in the link you provided. In my case, I am using SingTel broadband registered to my home number. It's OK, isn't it? Raymond (EKI) asked me about my communication needs, and I was advised that I can use one telephone number for PABX, fax and also Broadband. (fax is only when needed, I don't need a dedicated line). The previous owner had 2 tel lines. One line for dedicated fax. The other one for home phone and broadband.
-
There shouldn't be interference so long as you use a splitter. (not sure if this is the correct name). I am using a company called EKI communications to do the re-wiring, testing and training on how to use the system. The boss, Raymond was formerly from SingTel and he knows his stuff. Very assuring. I didn't buy this system myself. The previous owner, who is in office reno and restaurant businesses installed it, and I am just going to re-use it. It would be a waste to throw it out. I just got EKI to do the re-location of some tel points and test that all the wires are still in good condition, and not damaged by all the hacking. The cheapest method of a home intercomm is actually getting wireless phone sets that have the feature. DECT phones all have intercomm facilities, I think. I think with the PABX system I'm going to restore, I will have fun pressing a button and buzzing my kids whereever they are in the house! LOL!

We live in a tropical and humid country. Having a ceiling fan is a great plus and very practical too. I have not heard from a FS master than a ceiling fan is no good. I think you will get more responses in the FS section about this, if there isn't already a thread about.

Well, there already is some mark-up from my main con. I accept that, otherwise what is he in for, right? He has to be motivated to coordinate everything for me. To me, that's his "fees" all embedded in his quote. He recommended me a door merchant, whom I have no confidence with, and I just informed him that I'm bringing in my own, and he just has to work with them. I told him if he thinks he can achieve the standard that I want, and at a lower price, he can be my guest. And I know he wouldn't dare overstep his boundary. I am using image shack for my pictures. You can click on them, and they will enlarge. I have enjoyed your photos immensely. Thank you. Oh, I smiled when I saw your picture of your bathroom and glass sliding door in your balcony. I'll be tiling the wall behind my WC with mozaic, and along the 3 other walls, I will be running 3 rows of mozaic at 1m from the ground. I wasn't sure if 3 rows were enough, and was contemplating between 3 or 5. The moment I saw you'd used 3 rows, and they look proportionate to the size of your bathroom, I became convinced 3 rows are enough for me. It's what my main con has ordered anyway. As for the sliding glass doors ... I too will a L shaped row of glass sliding doors. It's not my balcony, but my airwell. But they won't be frameless because we need to make sure we can keep the rain out.

I think so too! Very clever indeed. Thank you. I hope I can attain great results like yours. We chose not to have an ID because my DH and I have very specific ideas of what we want, and it's no point having a middle man to convey our requirements. My friends tell us that we are taking a big risk, but it's a risk I think my husband and I can handle. Besides, I am on site almost every day, and my main con knows to check every single thing with me. I went backwards to view the pictures of your flat in its original condition and seeing how you have transformed it, makes me think how lucky you are to get a tasteful theme in. Really wonderful. I did note that you deliberately streamlined your kitchen such that your fridge and washing machine are aligned with your kitchen cabinets by changing the position of your sink. I guess you'd cut down on the number of cabinets then? You've done it beautifully, don't get me wrong. I just wonder how much you'd to compromise on storage space.

Congratulations, Light. You have a beautiful new home. Very tastefully furnished, if I may add. Simple and elegant.

Congratulations on getting those BestView windows. I love them so much I am also going to use them for my patio doors. It's very expensive to say the least, but I know it'll be all worth it. The people at Decorille are so nice anyway, so dealing with them was a nice experience.

Here's a view of the Living Room from the Patio. The debris have seen been removed. I just haven't taken updated pictures yet. -

^^ Admittedly yes, but it burns a big hole in our pockets too. The damage is phenomenal.
