  1. Update: Day 78 We are getting excited about moving in, have already started packing, but seems like there are still many things pending to be done! We have picked a good date for moving in on the 18th May. Today is already the 5th May, by right, K's notice of renovation states renovation will be done by 6th May, can we really move on time?? 1) Kitchen & Bathroom Tabletops; we have just selected the designs, selection is really limited I'll say. 2) Mirrors for Bathroom and Wardrobe 3) Sanitary wares to be installed after table tops 4) Cushion for our custom-made bench (we even went to buy cloth for them as we also didn't like the cloth selection they have for us) 5) Gain City Air-con installation 6) Last layer of painting + Painting of all bedroom doors 7) Chemical Wash Issues pending K's men to work on, so that our electrician can complete his works - Subway tiles to be filled up for the hood area, so that our electrician can fix the hood up, currently, that area is still cement screed wall. - Walk-in Wardrobe needs to drill a hole for LED light strip to go through the boards. - Some wiring issues related to how carpentry was done. - Water pipes for water heater pending plumber. Looking at the longggg list above, it's really worrying! Day 78 is really 七上八下!
  2. Update: Day 76 (as of 28th April 2014) At last, carpentry (excluding mirrors/tabletops) is all up!! OMG!! I did a re-count of the days starting from 11th Feb, and it's actually 76 days since then~~~~~ Sigh! Really super duper slow!!! Slight delay on the updates as we are so busy with packing and lights. Less talking... more pictures on the carpentry first! Lightings are also up by now, but I haven't got time to upload the pictures yet. Stay tuned!
  3. Hey enigma, almost there, almost there! Lets' all gambatte!!
  4. Thanks, 11finger! We picked wood floor tiles from Hafary for our bathrooms.. it's not just for bathrooms de, can be used anywhere in the house too.. we picked a similar shade so that it matches the rest of our unit..
  5. Just realized mobile t-blog doesn't show signatures! Here you go: contractor: H2O Interior Renovation Mr K (mobile: 9022 2321)
  6. Thanks, manja13. Mr K is no mysterious at all, if you browse around in renotalk t-blog, you will see many of his projects.. that's also how I found him. Heh.. and I've already shared his contact number and company name in my signature ah!
  7. Hi all, I've PM-ed all those who asked, and have also cleared my inbox! Here's slightly more updates and information on our Evorich flooring, since I received a few queries about them. The design we picked is High End Resilient Flooring (HERF) - Markham Oak Light, without skirting. Evorich people told us there isn't a need to do skirting for their flooring. As for how they quote, they will first give an estimated quote based on floor plan. Upon confirmation, before starting work, they will send someone down to your unit to do an actual site measure, it shouldn't differ much. The final quote will include an estimate of 5% wastage. Just for reference sake, a 4-room unit flooring (living room + 3 bedrooms), it's about 727 sqft. Based on our parents feedback, coz they watched over the workers on our behalf as we had to work. The Evorich people acted efficiently, they sent someone to bring up all the required materials the day before, and on the actual day, they were very punctual too, came with 6 men, working on different areas of the house. Started around 9am, finished by 2plus in the afternoon... However, unlike tiling, they do not leave extra materials behind for us, they cleared up everything and left. We asked Mr K to do us a favor by going up for inspection on a separate occasion, I shall ignore the fact that he wasn't on good terms with them, but, he indeed gave us some constructive feedback! 1) The tiles near to the walls were hollow, as he knocked the flooring to show us the difference in how they sound. 2) The finishings were not gel up with silicon. 3) The kitchen tiles done by HDB, were of different height as the living room, as we have hacked the kitchen walls, it's especially obvious. So, Evorich people added a trimming on top, the closest colour they have is still of a different shade, anyways, the point is an aluminium strip would have been better and more durable. And so, we checked back with Evorich, we will need to top up $65 for that aluminium trimming, so we decided to leave it until it gives way then we change lah.. and they will send men down to re-do the hollow parts by adding more maxborne glue to secure it. Ok, tata, that's all for my flooring updates!
  8. Thanks Takaishi! They only look like black (if only they are really black!) they are actually very dark-brown aluminum... hehehee, they came default from HDB... this is a new flat, so we can't replace windows yet leh.. i actually dislike the side push-out windows... i worry they may rust, and get stuck as time goes by... =p
  9. hi there, i think the market price for Evorich HERF is around $6 to $6.25 psf.. Apparently, K doesn't work with Evorich, and he gives me an impression that they have some "serious" grudges before..
  10. Update: Day 63 (as of 15th Apr) And so, flooring was done last Tuesday, but because we haven't install lights, so we can only pop over to see during daytime in the weekends! very fast, it's almost a week since... the floors are sooooo dusty that the pictures can't really justify how it looks in real. Mr Hojicha reminded me that someone asked for a close-up of the bricks, here it is.
  11. hahahaa... K still quite superb de.. his men can finish off the work within a day de.. but just that the project is progressing in weeks instead of days, instead of working 7 days per week, they maybe work 1-2 days per week!! so in d end, progress very slow lorrrr...
  12. Update: Day 57 Ok! So... our cement screed flooring issue was resolved after I spoke to this HDB contractor. Well, my advice to all is, never go harsh with contractors. They are more of 吃軟不吃硬 type! Hehehe.. when I saw him, I remembered he was the one who did the first round of cement screed for us, but when he saw the uneven bumps on the ground, he said it couldn't have been done by him, so I just act blur and kinda agreed and asked him will he please pleaseeeee help us to resolve these bumpy issues.... and he said not a problem at all, no issue, will come the next day and ta~da, within a day, the issue was fixed!! Something that can be done so quickly, they dragged two weeks of our time... what can I say, sigh! A few picture updates... the service yard windows have been installed... we are not going to install window grilles at the moment. And also, the first round painting was done without us knowing... hahaa... we just went in and saw whole unit was painted, within a day!! Bathroom sanitary wares and Kitchen sink & mixer were all delivered to the house, so we also moved our lighting purchases from Taobao to the bomb shelter! It's exciting seeing the house progressed at last.... Next up.. CARPENTRY. So headache la... we have to decide every inch to every millimetre, choosing of laminates, and also not sure how they are going to look in the end. Just fingers crossed!! Not sure if this is part of what a contractor will offer, but Mr A actually did drawings for us! this is a sample drawing of our kitchen he has drawn for us... although progress is slow, last week we already kinda discussed on the carpentry designs, but only this week he is confirming our drawings sending in to their factory, but I still appreciate the fact that he was still working at midnight last night, and whatsapp-ing with us to to confirm all our carpentry designs... so really, folks out there, if you want to engage Mr K's services, I must say you really have to be patient!! Meanwhile.... we are also just waiting for Evorich people to do our flooring this week!!
  13. Sorry to all who have been dropping messages here and PM-ing me to ask for quotation or even breakdowns, I won't be providing the breakdown la.. so I will just PM u all my total cost? Hope you all don't mind la... Just to be fair to Mr K, I wouldn't want to be spreading around his quotation breakdown as it may go to other IDs/contractors in the same line too... Anyways, I've taken away items like flooring and electricity, so it may not be accurate for you too.. My renovation is still on-going, there's bound to have some plus/minus de... I can only say his quotations will be around 30K and above.. Just to add-on, K uses Whatsapp and calls directly on the phone a lot, but only in Mandarin. If you are not comfortable in typing chinese, then it may cause some communication problem. He is still quite sincere and efficient in his works, and will really advise you when you need to make decisions. As for those who are still asking for Mr K's contact, I believe most of Mr K's customers including myself, have already put his contacts in our signatures.
  14. sorry, i do not know leh... for this white bricks wall, we really left it up to K to do, cos we trusted him with it.
  15. Nope, I only take a picture and show to K, cos i know he done it many times liao, he know which one to order..
  16. Hi xiaohuiis, yes, there are different colours of craftbricks to pick from. In fact, there are different sizes of bricks too... if you go to Hafary/Soon Bee Huat/any tiles shop, you can take a look at them, I took a picture of the one I wanted, that's the white craftbricks to show to K, and he will know what to do. For some other contractors who never done brickwalls before, you may need to advise them on the gaps in between the bricks and gouting colour you prefer...
  17. Hi hellonub, i don't really know exact measurements.. but it's the whole stretch from entrance door to the end of the wall... Ok, i think i got that, thankz!
  18. Hmm.. can fixed to floor ah? I thought it has to be fixed on the wall de... is it those magnetic door stopper, like what the rest of the rooms come with?
  19. Yeah, but i'm just wondering, where should the fixed stopper be fixed? coz when the door is open to the max, behind it, there are no walls, just the glass door... hi retroquix, yeah, they are craftbricks to be exact. How much it cost is based on the square ft measurements, mine cost $3.8k.
  20. Update: Day 53 C'mon, give us a break! As I've mentioned before.. previously, the HDB contractor who did a cement screed for us before the hack, needs to re-do part of the floor to screed it evenly, so that we can do our Evorich flooring... but this hdb contractor uncle is such a bully! He is so fierce to all of us, yelling at us... blaming us why do cement screen before hacking the walls, bla bla bla... anyway, *fast rewind* two weeks ago, he agreed to re-do the cement screeding.... so we asked a favor from the in-laws to go up open the door for him. Who knows, he promised to turn up at 3pm, but kept our old folks standing there for an hour and only turned up at 4pm... then he did a simple 10-min job, and left.... the flooring is still not even!! Subsequently, we fixed various appointments with him, he never turns up the last minute and postpones our appointments.... now we have reached the stage that is critical we need him to do the flooring, so that Evorich people can come in next week. From last Saturday, he changed to this Monday, and this Monday, he say not free again!! I really don't know what to do with him too... Anyway, last week nothing much has been done... except finalising our carpentry designs and paint colour. The only thing done was to fix the toilet bowls back, and showerscreens. Call us the green-est newbies in renovation... but we really didn't thought of this. Hahaha.. need to ask K see what can he do to prevent this bumping of handles.... Else we will just have to keep in mind that we can't open the toilet door while the showerscreen is closed... By right, this week painting should be taking place. Seems like both Mr K and Mr A have something cropped up personally, so they haven't start any painting yet.... but they are really nice.. they spent time discussing a lot of carpentry design issues with us via Whatsapp even late at night.... we really appreciate that!
  21. Hi Elin, hope you can reply me if you remember which white laminate did you pick for your white kitchen/cabinets? Is it from K's Visionary laminate booklet?
  22. Ok! will do an update once they start painting! thanks Harriette, yeah, that's what the Dulux Customer Service and K told me about why cannot touch-up too.. that's why I will go for matt paint now... in future if need to re-furnish, then will go for better paints. Your top-up for Dulux Kidproof wash & wear only costs $200 for your EM? That's very worth it! If I were you, I will top-up too.. hehee..
  23. lemoncandy, K's quote also include nippon paint, but he didn't mention which type of paint, probably the most basic one... cos when I asked him for EasyWash, he mentioned need to top up money... we don't want to top-up, anyway we're fine with Dulux too.. so we will stick to dulux lor... =)
