Once again thanks for the reply. What you mean by outside is the side out of our house right? My husband checked it last time, nothing to do with the handle, just the frame. Can't be that this is a stick on handle right? LOL!

Thank you everyone for replying to this thread, especially Alan for the explanation and picture. I'm so sorry for taking so long to reply due to the reason that my internet connection is having some problem. I agree that the hdb officer's words sounds unbelievable. Alan, I think my handle is a bit different from your mum's, we couldn't find the screw on it. Here are the 2 pics, kindly forgive me for the poor images.

Thanks Alan! We're currently not staying in this house, I'll take the pics (and send you a pm to inform) when we go back in this few days. I've searched around the internet and realized many hdb flat owners complaining the short life span of their window handles. Sigh~

Unfortunately the officer in-charge who told us this refused to send someone down as according to him, the one month period had expired. In fact the contractors didn't rectify nearly all the defects we reported in the list, but there's nothing much we could do since the officer insisted they did (I had even asked him to visit our house to see for himself). Looks like we have to engage the outside contractor to tighten the handles?

I understand how it feels, as my neighbour smokes not anywhere but outside my house. It's worse whenever they've gathering at home, each time with at least 2 smokers slowly smoking and chit-chatting outside my house...... I've to bear with it for the whole night .

My casement window handles are very loose, during the time when we reported the defect to hdb, the officer told us we could tighten the screws with no tool needed, but I couldn't find the so-called screws.

My mother-in-law bought one, but it cost more than the one in your link. A booth at People's Park Centre is selling this. When you go in from the entrance facing Yue Hwa, it's at the row on your left. I can't remember which floor is it tough.

I agree with hobbes187. Their things cost a bit more than other places, but it was my first time facing no service or delivery problem. Don't need to go to picket & rail, some exact furnitures you can find in other shops are selling at few hundreds dollars more, why pay more for the same items?

Are you staying in blk B? It was our first house, looking at your pics really make me missed the place. The holes below the windows are such a silly and ugly design from the hdb, I've even heard one auntie telling another one the designer's family member must be a carpenter eyeing for biz in the few blocks, the few holes can help him earn extra money. LOL! The odd shape design especially the living room is a challenge to your designer, and I've seen people turning the study area into a kitchen (it's a bit warm doing cooking in the kitchen) as there's a window along the corridor. I wonder what they do to the actual kitchen?

My in-laws will be renting their flat to their relatives who will be here as PR, they want me to do the documents (including getting the permit from HDB) for them but I've no experience in such thing, can anyone with experience please teach me? Thanks!

Thanks for the fast reply~ I didn't know Sim Lim Square sells this, but I think I'll try tower first

I know of a couple who married for more than 5yrs, but the husband doesn't want to have sex at all merely because he doesn't want children in their marriage. His ex-gf had an abortion for him, he doesn't want to repeat the history. But, his wife said he has high sex desire, therefore he'll always ask for petting and the wife to do some job for him. So far I've only heard of wives have no desire for sex, but hardly heard about husbands. Did your friend talk to her husband to let him know how she feels over this? Some women need sex with their husband to get the assurance that she's still attractive to him, if your friend is also feeling this way, then it's best for her to tell him frankly...... and most important thing of all, she has to find out if he's having some problems that he didn't share with her.

I need to get a CCTV soon, as the things we put outside our house (hdb flat) always get stolen. Within a short period of time we lost some shoes, doormat, plants and decoration for festive seasons. The door for the utilities metres was once damaged cos someone trying to force open it without a key. Last time in our old house (also a newer flat), all the neighbours leave their shoe racks and sometimes expensive shoes outside but no problem at all. I've checked with some big companies and it's going to cost me above $1k to install one cctv outside my house, I heard there are some cheaper ones which we can get from shop and install ourselves, where are these shops? And, does it mean my computer has to be on for 24/7 if I want to do the recording?

I still can't decide whether should I get a roomba, after reading so many negative reviews on forums, especially 570 that I'm eyeing on and charger/adaptor burst problem. By the way, how does it find it way around your house? I have many wood furnitures and carpet, a bit worry it'll keep banging onto my furnitures.

I have only 2 complains on our mrt (same for the buses) services here. Why can't they increase the frequency during peak hours don't they know that our train is smaller than some other countries? Once I had to stand so close (face to face) to a guy that I can hear him breathing (he doesn't have asthma problem) and we almost kiss on each other when the train suddenly jerk. Also, they should change all the seats to the same size as the nth-east line. Sometimes an empty seat is wasted when there's a selfish guy opening his legs wide. A big size fat indian man sitting next to me has even thought I was trying to molest him because his arm was already not within his seat and we kept rubbing on each other's arm. My complains are more on the selfish commuters. I've tried the sharp finger nail poking method on men who lean on the pole and sometimes I'm already there before they enter the cabin, few times they lean harder onto my finger. Some people are so gan jiong to get out of the train that they'll ignore the obvious fact that I am also alighting at the same station, they'll keep pushing despite whether am I holding to anything to balance myself in the moving train and recently one angmoh just got told off by me because he knew I left my seat to get myself ready to alight but kept pushing and telling me "excuse me"....... told him twice that I'm also going to alight and can't he see it was a very crowded train for me to stand aside for him?

You're really a brave woman. My friend's gate got locked by the loanshark and her unit number was painted everywhere, although it's a "first hand" flat and they didn't lose their ic and they didn't write the name of the person who borrowed the money. At first the loanshark refused to let go when her husband called to explain, and they even threatened to go down to their house in the middle of the night if my friend has the gut to make a police report. My friend was so frightened by it that she kept crying to me when she told me what happened, but luckily the loanshark agreed not to harrass them after her dad called the loanshark to explain to him again and lied that my friend is pregnant and very stress over the problem.

When we were about to start our renovation, I wanted to buy some cakes to my neighbour who is staying one floor below mine but my hubby felt it's very weird of me to do so when nobody bothers. When I moved in, overall neighbours look great except for the floor we're staying. A family which we always taking the same lift, they always show a black face when they see anyone, a sweet smile plus a friendly "hello" didn't help at all. Anyway, they don't look like considerate neighbours, always like to leave their rubbish right in front of the dustbin chute and I've seen the husband throwing rubbish on the corridor far away from their house and they ended up flying to my door step. The neighbour opposite them told us this family isn't happy with them because they using some method to stop them from putting their shoes and bicycle at their (the better neighbour's) door step. Another neighbour likes to smoke at my corridor, dirty my corridor with his cigarette ash and throws the cigarette butts down, causing my downstairs neighbour mistaken us as the culprit. I asked the wife how come her husband likes to smoke at the corridor, she told me because they don't want to have a cigarette smell in their house or dirty their floor........ so it's ok for our house to have these problems? I always smile to my neighbours even if I don't know them personally but look like they're staying in the same block as us, but I'm reluctant to do the same to the above selfish neighbours of mine although they're the nearest to us.

Haunted Experiences At Home
L.er replied to white_affair's topic in Moving House: Packing, Storing, Moving To Your New House
Eeeek! I wonder should I not return to my house if I know there is an unknown occupant around. I have encountered a lot of these, was told by a sifu that it was because of my date of birth (or is it timing? can't remember). Here are few of my encounters. 1st story: Before I was married, I always like to chat with my auntie who comes to stay over at my parents' place once in a year. One night, she told me she had once heard those things talking and not one but many which is like a market. Out of curiousity I asked her how did she know it isn't human but those things? How did they sound like? Before she could answer me, a man whispered near my ear "like this". Gosh! I burst into tears...... I thought we have a god statue at home (kai guang before) and from young I was told with the god at home I'm safe. 2nd story: One early in the morning at about 5.30am, I was pressed by "it". I can sense that I'm going to die if I still can't breathe for at least once, hence I struggled hard to move cos from my one and only past experience, thing will be ok if I can move. I succeeded and turned to another direction, but just when I closed my eyes, it pressed on my again. It repeated 5 times until I decided to sit up for awhile as I thought my body will be ok after this big movement. About one minute later, I laid down and closed my eyes....... again it attacked me for the 6th time! I decided not going back to my sleep cos "it" didn't want to leave me alone. 3rd story: I heard about Taiwan Grand Hyatt hotel's story but mine isn't in that expensive hotel, it's a cheaper hotel which is very popular among S'pore tourists. My friend went to sleep after taking her shower and was already in her dreamland when I finished my shower at about 3am. I browsed through the newspaper she bought and suddenly I heard an auntie calling out "char siew bao, char siew bao" in mandarin. I thought how come it was already end of the night and this auntie just started selling her buns? Next morning after hearing what I told her, my friend wanted to try their local bun, so we asked the hotel receptionist, where exactly can we find hawker (illegal type) selling buns near the hotel at night time? He told us none even if it's earlier. I asked "so even 3am also impossible?", he looked at me as if I'm an idiot, "the street is already so quiet at that hour, who will be selling food at this time?" -
My new bedside table has this strong bad smell which we used to have the same smell on our previous wardrobe when we just bought it (from different shop). I don't know how to describe the yucky smell, it's like dry saliva? You will smell this on some new furnitures but it's rare. From my past experience with the wardrobe, cleaning it with fresh lemon juice or detergent can't remove the yucky smell and it will turn worse after some time. Last time I can try to bear with it since it's on one of the wardrobe door, but this time it's my bedside table, an item which is so near to my nose when I'm lying on the bed.

Am I too late to reply? Brighton's sales staffs: before and after purchased service is just as good and some can even remember you by name after nearly one mth, unlike Novena very poor service once after you paid and stepped out of the shop. Quality: Average but acceptable for their prices. From the designs I believe some of their furnitures are mass production which are the same as many other companies'. Delivery: Those items directly from their factory are prompt, the office will call and remind you one day in advance and sometimes even on the day itself, but one of our item was from another company which they made us waited from the agreed 10am - 12 noon until almost 6pm, but I understand this isn't brighton's fault and it's very nice of the sales person to call us personally to apologise and helped us to hurry the delivery men. I'll still purchase from brighton again.

I have a weird over-friendly neighbour. Her unit is near to the lift, she'll open her door and chat with us when we're waiting for the lift or came home from work. Sometimes she'll even try to chat with us when we leave our door opens...... some neighbours suspect she has mental problem due to some of the content in her conversation.

My brother bought one from brighton at $399, it looks as good as mine which is about $800. I believe this is the best price I've came across.

Sometimes it's the agent who lied to the house owners. My father-in-law contacted an agent to rent out his rooms and this agent tried to pursuade him to sublet the whole unit by telling him as long as he got the flat for 5 years, he doesn't need to seek for hdb approval but it will still be legally done. My father-in-law believed the agent's words until my husband asked my friend who is a very experienced rental agent to make him understand the first agent lied to him.
