just for awareness, try not to take JB carpenters (unless they are backed by IDs). my self and 1 of my friend was conned by them. same tactics, cheaper than market rate. but once u paid up some deposit, little goods are delivered, and keep pressing for more payments. then finally, poof! disappear.

price wise, of cos is naytoh wood cos plywood is very cheap. but if u are going to have laminate over ur cabinet doors, choose plywood better. also, naytoh wood is just an excuse for ur carpenter to mark up their prices unless he quoted u the same price for the 2 materials. either that, he might have excess naytoh doors that he want to dispose of.

yes, the frames, i had refer them as skeletons. but if u change the laminate, u need very skilled carpenters to do a nice job. very difficult to explain to u, u have to see then u know.

just for info, many people do not understand 1 simple logic. there are 2 choices. 1st is cheap, 2nd is good. and we all know the principle, cheap things does not comes good., good things does not come cheap. and the above statement can be enlarge to 3 choices, namely cheap, good and fast. out of the 3 options, u can only choose 2, unless u are able to accept to pay a very high premium on ur goods. finally, if i am the carpenter who do very good workmanship. i know i am in demand, i will sure charge higher premiums. not to troll anyone, but this is a fact.

yes and no. normally they will change the doors instead of stripping off the laminate. but if u insist on stripping off the laminate, it can be done, but the labour fees is quite ex as stripping really involves lots of work. normally they will recommend u to change the doors with ur chosen laminate stick on it already. pricing wise, it depends on how big and how complicated ur skeletons and ur wardrobe is.

let me give u some ideas. urs is how many room? cos different room charge at higher price. to be exact, $1800 painting for 4 rm is very ex. false ceiling. again, need to see how big is ur living room. tv console. 12 ft $1.8k = $150. is it suspended or got legs type? tv feature wall is $280 per ft. full height with any glass or mirror? if its without mirror theme, its on the high side.

u know why nobody can give u a fixed price? its because they do not know the floor area. cos different models of 3 rm flat has different floor area. kitchen sink door? as in the cabinet below the sink? i think u can get it done for new piece at less than 200 dollars. u mentioned u wanted to do a alumimium sliding door. at kitchen side? just look at yellow pages for one that does doors can already. finally, estimated hacking, debris removal and haulage is around 1k +/-300 bah. really just guesing. but this one really stab in the dark.

i would advise you engage everything urself. it will be the cheapest. but,if u are not free, engage a contractor, where they will earn bits from u. IDs, to me, are just well-dressed contractors. they do almost the same work as contractors. (but i'm not suggesting all IDs are bad).ID charge a high premium because they can design something u want. however, now, it is very difficult to differentiate between an ID and a contractor. perhaps, the name of the company can give some clues (e.g. XYZ contractor services, and XYZ interior design) secondly, suggest u don't go for those package (e.g.$9888 for 4 rm flat etc). all these has lots of hidden charges!! talk to one in depth and u will know why.. thirdly, the length in the industry is a factor of how 'trustworthy' that company is. a company can survive 20+ yrs obviously is safer than a 1 yr old company, i terms of experience and 'trust'. also, what matters is whether they are willing to serve u or not. by this, i means, they will answer ur call 95% of the time u call them. don't just go for cheap deals, and later encounter ID or contractors that quarrels with u over trivial matters. and finally, of cos, having chemistry with ur ID contractor is the best. cos easier to facilitate work done, and can negotiate for more discounts!!
