  1. Sarah told me about your stolmen adventure. did u have to sandpaper down the pipe first? Nonetheless looks good!
  2. I'll post my taobao links once I see/feel the goods. If lousy or unsatisfactory, I will identify the seller also so future renotalkers can avoid I am pretty sure about the storage bed from hommage. Thanks to Choomacher for recommending such a nice piece
  3. All the best and look forward to some pics!
  4. Haha unfortunate. Realise HDB got a lot of limitations For instance cannot have international wall sockets which allow any kind of power plug to be inserted
  5. Really like this art pieces from TB. Goes well with industrial look And this piece above the headboard in bedroom. But might be a bit too long Opinions?
  6. I was told the same thing and I believe he is correct, unfortunately it is not suitable for HDB Anyway I got my tiler to find substitutes in Singapore which were S$25 only. It allows them to insert a portion of a tile on top of the floor trap.
  7. For taobao purchases - there are really a substantial saving to be had. Don't poo poo made in China stuff because vast majority of the stuff we buy are made in China In fact I have seen a lot of furniture at retails stores here which are no doubt from the same suppliers/manufacturers in China who are listed on taobao Just that it's about 2 to 3 the prices excluding shipping On my to-buy list from taobao if the quality of this shipment is good! 1. Posters/art for decor 2. Small furniture like bedside table, coffee table and bench 3. Rug and carpets 4. Edison light bulbs
  8. Tolix chairs for dining area. Distressed black. Very common in cafes/F&B places now. Caged light bulbs. It was really cheap. Could not say no. A rather whimsical caged light bulb. Might not go with my theme exactly but planning to suspend over the bedside table. Will post reviews of these items once I unbox them next week!
  9. Taobao stuff has finally arrived! 3 days earlier than expected. I told them to deliver next week. Bought quite a bit of stuff from taobao, hope the quality is good and no breakages. A sample of some of the items I bought: Kitchen sink, stainless steel, thickness 1.2mm Kitchen mixer to go along with sink Sink for toilet. It was only 55 bucks excl shipping. Don't think it's kohler though lol Stainless steel floor trap. I regret making this purchase as it arrived too late. Anyone interested in buying from me? Industrial octopus chandelier for living room
  10. The sink with the two taps is very cute. Reminds me of two peeing boys/angels at water fountain! May I find out what is the dimension of your dining table? I'm hoping to get away with 1.2m length but worried it feels cramped
  11. My point of view is quite negative for most IDs in the Singapore market. A lot of IDs here have no formal design training i.e. everyone is a designer these days. Particularly those that target the mass market segment i.e. ID firms with prominent presence in Expo or other exhibitions, advertising on TV, newspapers. The reason being is their tired designs are recycled over and over again for the same HDB flat lay-out. They just make some small variations - like tile choices, cabinet laminates. I think the mistake here is paying a $1000 design fee so now you feel locked into continuing to engage this ID/firm because it's a sunk cost. If the first ID drawing shown is very different from what he said it would be, I think it's high chance that this ID will not meet your expectation throughout the reno. You can try to evaluate again based on a second ID drawing but I would not be particularly hopeful. Since the other issue is that the quote is a bit on the high side, I think it will be likely that your final bill will be higher than the quote you are seeing now. A lot of IDs will keep the initial quote low and deliberately miss out certain items in order to secure a contract. i.e top-ups needed for certain laminates, flooring (not just psf but size/type of tiles), electrical points (concealed or not), soft closing drawers/hinges etc - basically add-on costs for things you decide during the renovation but may not quoted explicitly during the initial stages. What I'm trying to say it, give serious consideration to walking away from this ID firm and consider it school fee spent. You run a significant risk of having a rather aggravating reno experience, at a high cost, and still not meet your expectation.
  12. Can I find out is it difficult process to paint over the door with chalkboard paint? like need to sand down the surface, apply another coat of paint before applying chalkboard paint?
  13. Nice updates. Congrats! Kitchen especially very nice with the concrete walls
  14. Ya something like that although I won't use an additional panel to mount since the thickness of the picture frame fits perfectly. Will mount on wall.
  15. Hope the buttons don't pop out. I read that happened to a few owners heh
  16. I plan to paint that inner rim of the sunken park in chalkboard paint and have the black picture ledge. Looks really good in my mind. What did you do with yours?
  17. Yeah, its very heng that the ikea ribba picture ledge is the same depth. So can get an extra ledge behind bed frame heh. Do you remember this depth on your wall?
  18. Hi Choomacher - thanks for dropping by! The bedframe looks nice. I bought a queen bed actually so don't need to fit King size mattress. Is there a page link/address for Hommage? Never been before
  19. False beam up! Under this false beam will be a 3-panel folding aluminium, black anodized. Wanted wire inside the glass but additional weight makes it problematic My sketch of the bedroom lighting plan sent to contractor on whatsapp Anyone know where to get replacement for this sort of switch? Discovered an unanticipated problem yesterday. There is a portion of the wall which is not flush. Although false wall to hide it is the usual option, I decided to keep it The bed-frame will be flush against the wall and I will use Ikea Ribba shelves which are of perfect depth Between the bed head board and the wall. Try to save a few hundred bucks here. heh This same problem is found in the living room wall but decided to go ahead with false wall there though Hope it works out!
  20. Was thinking of something like this I also recall a grafunkt one called attap which I felt is really quite cute. Might not really fit my theme but against a chalkboard wall and industrial decor and lighting, might work. heh
  21. oldskool - I had considered this frame too! haha I'm thinking of doing a custom one with second charm
  22. Just made a trip down to cb2 to buy bed frame but then discovered the frame is made for European mattress size. Decided not to make the purchase. Now I'm in a minor panic cos dunno where else can find a suitable bed frame. Suggestions are welcome!
  23. Wood coloured kitchen top is really nice and creates warmth! I was considering the ikea wood top which mish did but I think I really won't be bothered to maintain Yay start blog and post floor plan!
