  1. Everytime I click this thread, I keep thinking Tom Cruise will drop from the ceiling whilst suspended from a rope to steal furniture (Nice windows and grills!)
  2. I will be very tempted to change lighting in my place given some time. Heh. It's an easy way to change the look of an interior quickly. How long this is gonna take is up in the air. I'll be away travelling for most of the week and will want to be there when they check for leak. So prob can only get round to it when I return. Thankfully in no rush to move in. Are you on track to move in soon? It's next week or something!
  3. Agree that most track light issues are transformer related. Besides voltage issues, could be defective I don't suppose you bought it from tb?
  4. Heh there are caravaggio lamps It's nice but I feel it's more suited for scandinavian interiors The problem is that the usual guy that my main con engages.. At this point, I don't think it's lack of effort to find the gas leak My main concern is the level of competence. Anyway they've started to expose the gas pipe bit by bit to find the source....
  5. Hey vanessa, thanks for checking in I finally got the full story from my main con and am feeling quite frustrated (as he is I'll bet) So after all the demolition works, the gas service worker did a check to ensure there were no leaks before we can proceed with the reno since the gas pipes are all concealed He gave the OK - no leaks then Now after everything is up - there is a leak?! If I compare what was done then and now - only the kitchen cabinets, hood and kitchen false ceiling are new Yet none of these areas have leaks detected. Clearly something is amiss - I'll bet that he did not do a proper job in checking for gas leak the first time around. Anyway got another gas service worker to come and check Might be later today or tomorrow, who knows. But am going to make the time to be there.
  6. Yesterday was browsing through boconcept and found these nice concrete looking panels they used Super like! was thinking could be used on the bedroom wall behind the bedframe Just my luck, it's not for sale but sales guy was kind enough to offer to help me find out from their head office
  7. Are these also from tb? heh Your bed frame is very interesting, Definitely one of a kind. Quality good?
  8. If by "safe" you mean whether it is a Hansgrohe/Grohe product - it will be most likely made by an OEM manufacturer There are certain models from Hansgrohe and Grohe which are made in China and these are the ones you usually see for purchase on tb If by "safe" you mean whether the item is functioning, and/or leaks etc, then the opinion varies Some people feel it is not, whilst other feel that the risk is reasonable for the price which you are paying My advice is if you are the type of person who spends $50 on something which usually retails for $300 - and the item doesn't look as good as they expect in a retail shop here and therefore feel cheated, then taobao is not for you.
  9. Hi Shirley There is probably not much use in separating the shipments into <$400 lots as the freight charge starts at 1 cubic metre. So the freight charges will individually add up and probably negate any savings in GST. Other agents include peeka which many people use too. Amcon has also been used with great success by many people here too. Their freight charge is lower (though IMHO not that much less) than typical tb agents like 65daigou and peeka.
  10. Actually there are a lot of OEM manufacturers in China for the "same" item/product which is the reason why the quality is heterogenous. It's a bit of a shame you're not willing to share... Sharing is caring!
  11. Morning all, I bought this floor trap from taobao and didn't manage to use it as I didn't receive it on time. Please let me know if you are interested in it. Happy to let go at a reasonable price. The original link is here - price at which it's sold and I bought at is there. http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=14799433245
  12. really like the posters. very nice take on the art. i didn't get the last one though - clockwork orange, pulp fiction and...?
  13. Thanks for that! I am getting another licensed gas service worker to check it out. I don't trust the current one who said there is no leak after all the wet works and demolitions were completed Which is why the reno carried on smoothly after. Nothing new installed in the area of the concealed gas pipes - which is worrying because he probably missed the leak the first time around.
  14. After three hours of searching. The gas pipe leak cannot be located! Exasperating. Not sure what to do next. Any other renotalkers experienced this before? Please share suggestions!
  15. Although my reno is completing, I feel like the journey has barely started. Lots of decor and final touches to go!
  16. If i found out the gas leak after i moved in, i prob won't be able to post anymore lol
  17. hey macuser, I encourage you to post the links which you bought from and not satisfied with. at least others may benefit here!
  18. Totally agree! Honestly I think comfort gets most of their stuff from taobao. And what I want to find is - the manufacturer on taobao whom the comfort buys from! Haha. Thus truly effectively cutting out a middle man that does not provide much value-add (sadly) Anyways this discussion is very interesting to me I use this example of two "identical" products - the tolix chair with wooden seat, both by 4 diamond sellers http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a230r.1.14.127.ZdMIYA&id=21396351959 http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a230r.1.14.188.siqYAG&id=9168209343 Both list the same dimensions and specifications. Yet the first one is about half the price of the second one. What's the difference? You can see the second one is an actual retail physical retail shop which does replicas Whereas the first one is probably one of the manufactures that supplies the physical shop or a nicely fronted taobao reseller in China.
  19. It is truly a leopard print!! I totally would pay money to get rid of it too! haha Anyway I saw this seller before because I liked the tolix legs on a dining table and i think he is the only seller that makes this (or maybe one of two if i recall) But excluded him because it's a one diamond seller. Just a friendly warning to other renotalkers who are considering making purchases on taobao - the feedback and reviews that people type in may be fraudulent. This is a lot more likely if it's a seller with 3 diamonds and less.
  20. Wow! It is truly unique. The triangle shapes bedroom makes it a real design challenge. Gd luck and looking fwd to update pics!
  21. Thanks for sharing June. I am very curious how the leopard striped wooden seat looks like! haha On a more serious note, buying anything online without being able to touch/see the actual product is riskier than buying from a traditional bricks & mortar kind of shop The risk is probably higher with taobao as a lot of sellers may not have as much finesse in making the product i.e. not as much attention paid to details as we expect In order to mitigate this, I only buy items which are uncomplicated in design. Yes there are a lot of sellers on taobao who copy from other taobao sellers. This is very obvious since for some products by different sellers, the pictures are all the same! Even with the previous seller's branding of logos and whatnot. My recommendation for safer taobao purchases are lighting, sinks, faucets, chairs. If you can, stick to replicas where the dimensions of the product are already known as well. I tend to avoid wood pieces as (1) variation in the wood grain as you pointed out, (2) we are not exactly sure how the wood is treated Having said that, I did buy a furniture item with some wooden panels but I did so with full knowledge that I might have to trash it in 6 months. June, will you be able to share the link on taobao which you wanted to buy the chair from? At least it will help reno-talkers to avoid this seller.
  22. Haha. Look forwarding to meeting you and other renotalkers too!
