Anybody using those "vertical iron" (dun know what is it call actually) you see in boutique? Tot of getting one next time instead of the normal iron and ironing board. Ironing is time consuming and hot. Those "vertical iron" seems pretty convenient and easy to use.

I would prefer to leave the tiles/flooring and electrical cabling works to the professional. Tiles when not laid properly might "pop" up later. Electrical works for safety reasons.

When you engage a FSM, somehow you will feel obliged to listen to his/her advice. Otherwise, you may feel the money not well-spent and worst still, you may blame yourself when things "start to go wrong" if you do not heed the advice in the first place. My future bro-in-law is currently doing his reno and originally he wanted to join 2 bedrooms together to form a bigger MBR. However, the FSM advise against joining the rms and worst, the original bed position will bring bad luck as it is not advisable to sleep in one the of bedroom. In the end, they had to change their whole reno plan and layout, such that the original storeroom was demolished and a new storeroom was constructed. Even strange was that access to this new storeroom was through the MBR. After seeing all this, my future-in-laws were also not too pleased with the layout but what to do, hack already hack liao. Reno 50% completed.

After reading thru so many postings on household appliances and the list of things that fellow forumners are buying for their new house, there seems to be endless things to buy. To prepare myself, I have decided to classified the household appliances and electrical products into 3 broad categories namely: 1. Must have. Die die must buy, else will be very inconvenient or not practical. 2. Need to have. Can buy can don't buy, or buy later. Minimum or no inconvenience. 3. Nice to have. Bascially fanciful gadgets. If after buying items in (1) and (2), budget still allows, why not. Must Have Fridge Washing Machine Water heater Stove/Hob Microwave oven Rice cooker TV for living room Thermos flask (to boil hot water) Hair dryer (must buy else FW will face black black) Fan (1 for each rm) Need to Have Air con Hood Oven TV for MBR Nice to Have HTS Biometric Finger Print lock Wireless door viewer (as one have mentioned) So far these are the things I can think of (electrical appliances only). After adding furnitures, lightings, curtains, crockery, utensils, daily necessities etc etc, the $$$ can be very substantial . Pls feel free to add or share what are the electrical applicances you have bought during your initial setting up of our new home.

This will be classify under my "nice to have" things. More important to get those "must have" eg Fridge, washing machine etc and "need to have" eg air con, hood etc. first. "Nice to have" things only if budget allows.
