TYM replied to drycelll's topic in Carpentry Works
I guess what he meant is that for glossy surfaces, any scratches or marks will be more visible as compared to a matt surfaces. -

Feel that they are very pushy, keep asking you to pay $500-$1000 to sign with them and they will show you perspective drawings. Too much of sales talk, too little on ID. -
Tks for the explanation.

Budgetreno
TYM replied to girly80's topic in Renovation Contractors, Interior Designers & Suppliers Reviews
FW's friend recommended to us and we made an appointment with them. FW told them clearly that we want to speak to an ID but when we went there, we ended up speaking to a salesperson. Keep asking what we want instead of giving us options and suggestions. Feel that I might as well engage a contractor and tell him what we want instead of getting an ID. Anyway, this salesperson kept emphasing to us their co uniqueness of paying them only consultancy fees and the rest of the reno are all cost-to-cost. He promised to speak to his ID and get back to us with a quotation and space planning within a week but never did. Mayb our small budget is too small for BudgetReno? In the end, we decided not to follow up, did not really have a good impression to start with. -
Can explain what is top mount, what is under mount? Or any pictures to illustrate? Any pros and cons for either? Tks.

Saw those with the baby face, it selling a whopping $650 . What is so special abt the baby face?

FW likes the LG Tromm. Dryer option is a plus, good for those rainy season but don't think will use it often, painful on the pocket. Also prefers it to dry naturally. Still deciding... no rush...

Just a word of caution on the super king size mattress. Lifts in HDB and Condos are pretty small, so your Super King size mattress may have a problem fitting into the lift if your new place are any of the above and your unit is on the high floor. I have a friend, staying on the 38th floor of a new HDB flat, and he bought a King size mattress. Now after measuring the dimensions of the lift, he is very worried that the mattress may not be able to fit into the lift. There is a bigger lift but it only serves up to the 21st floor. He asked the furniture co. how much extra would he have to pay to carry the mattress up the stairs, and the furniture co. told him $80/floor . Seems like the furniture know he may have a problem and he ganna ripped off.

How I wish I can upgrade, no $$$ man. But the temptation is always there...
-
All these shows, discounts and freebies can only be good for consumers like us moving into new house, although it is indeed very tempting to "spend and upgrade" every quarter.

According to some salesperson I spoke to, front load washer are more water and energy efficient, especially the continental brands cos the environmental consiousiness and awareness are higher in Europe. But they are also pricer. Front load washers usually have more wash options, such as "hand wash" which so far I have not seen in top load washers yet. Some told me that front load washers are gentler on your clothes, and your clothes will have less crease after washing (not sure true or not). Front load washers require specific detergent.

Pai seh, I think is the "S" series, confused liao. Got the TH42PV70, 42", $2500.

Honestly speaking, not sure whether worth the while to squeeze into PC show and buy cos during the PC show period, shops like Best Denki, Harvey Norman and Courts were also offeing very attractive discounts and freebies, to match or even bettered those offered at the PC show. Anyway, the next one to watch is COMEX in Sept. Haiz, time to do homework again.

Saw at AMK NTUC Xtra this Morries Brand, volume 42L, selling at $108. Tomiya and Homeproud, volume btw 16-18L (slightly bigger than oven toaster), selling btw $30 to $40. Not sure how durable this ovens are but bought a few Homeproud fans before and they tend to breakdown after about a year.

Saw the Sony offer too. Was tempted to get the X series 32" for MBR at $1599 with free gifts. Last day today, promotions alongside the PC show. But in the end did not buy cos found out that Philips will be coming out with some new models in Aug. Bought the latest Panasonic Viera Plasma (never thought I will buy Plasma, seems like an impulse purchase) , paid a small deposit and got them to insert a clause that allows me to upgrade to another model before delivery (which is to be advised).

Saw this offer at Best Denki J8 also, same price. Any feedback from any users? The saleslady told us that even if the dryer function breakdown (which is very rare), the washer will still work fine. One advantage of this Direct Drive motor is that there is no driving belt involve, so more durable as not susceptible to the wear and tear on the part of the belt, true? They have a model without the dryer function, selling at $999.

Recommend Lifestorey if you are willing to spend a bit more. I think their lights are pretty unique, though a bit ex. Lush also got quite a nice range of floor lamps and table lamps.
-
Saw them selling at Metro Compass Point. From far looks a bit like Sony Bravia. From near, picture not clear, resolution seems poor. Personally, still prefer jap brand tv.
-
Luxur Home, Lush. Dun think they are the same.
-
Thats what I thought too from the Topic Title.
-
Cash Converters, but they pay u peanuts.

Personally, I think how much you earn is something that is private and confidential. Even large organisation and MNC do not reveal how much their top management get paid, just a range. (ok, fear of public of backlash is also another factor). Of course, if husband and wife decided to be honest and disclose this, then it is good. Helps in managing the finance better. Honesty is the best policy is this case. But between friends, colleagues and relatives, i feel that this is a rather inappropriate ques to ask. How often do you see people going around asking their colleagues how much they earn, how much bonus they got, how much raise they got. When it comes to money, sometimes it is best not to probe too much. 谈钱伤感情.

Let's just say can be quite a bit, luckily not very often. So no electric hob or induction hob for my new place, all gas.

TYM replied to T.Mandy's topic in RENOVATION IDEAS: Interior Design Themes, Space Planning
If you like teak furniture with a more modern look and design, you can try PLANK. They use Burmese Teak.
