  1. no problem.. just so happened the questions you asked, i can answer... actually, if you staying in marine parade, you can try Tao Nan.. its still my preferred choice.. my alma mater mah.. and back door?? hmmm, i dunno leh.. maybe do volunteer works?? btw, CHIJ Katong now renovation leh.. the whole building demolished...?? anyone know where the school moves to??
  2. hihi... i am not a parent.. but a ex-student from Tao Nan and i have been staying at Marine Parade since i was borned.. just wanna share my views with you.. basically, the 3 schools here are quite okie... just different demographics and culture??? Tao Nan is a good school.. i went mah.. but it is getting more and more competitive as compared to the days i studied there.. i was quite a lazy student.. and of course, all my beloved teachers retired oredi.. went back every teacher day to visit my former teachers last time.. now, new principal, new style.. most of the teachers are strangers to me now.. but i know that they are really particular with Mandarin.. good and bad.. actually, if you are hoping that your kid can improve his/her mandarin, go Tao Nan.. and yes, they starts with Higher Chinese... my sister was a trainee teacher in Tao Nan for Chinese.. so she told me that... as for Ngee Ann.. i was a volunteer teacher during my Uni days and i went Ngee Ann to help the kids before.. some of them are really smart.. and the school is quite okie too.. but many malays and indians? i am not racist but it seems that there are many more here than in Tao Nan.. as for CHIJ... its ang mo school.. as in all speaks english generally... hahaha.. the kids i met on my way home.. my way to work.. hahaha.. so if you wanna improve your's kid english... go there.. sure improve.. i know cos my english quite bad last time.. and it was when i befriend a CHIJ fren.. my english started improving... so funnie.. her chinese improved too after mixing with me for some time too.
  3. thanks!! in fact, i went to vhive at funan last nite.. they got quite a number of nice office tables.. but they do not do customisation.. have to figure which to get to minimise my space constraint problem...
  4. haha.. you all very cute leh.. for me.. i know what i enjoy doing but cant cos for practical reasons.. money.. !! korea, at least you can afford to nua at home... good leh..
  5. ya loh.. i saw the 3D pictures.. and i saw the actual study table (Work Desk) at my ID's place.. haiz... so disappointing... and for that price.. really not worth it loh... ya loh.. i also heard... any comments on vhive? their office furniture collection quite nice too...
  6. thanks zirhk3355! i really appreciate your reply.. !!
  7. hihi.. i am now in a dilemna.. have included the customisation of a L-shaped study table in my reno.. but then, the 3D design my ID showed me was not up to my expectations.. the design is just one chunk of wood attached to the wall.. with drawers.. those very square and rigid type.. so old and conventional... so i told my ID i will look for study tables.. if i find sth i like, i will take it out from the reno.. he said ok but cos i got space constraint, i must be careful during my purchase... there are however very few shops selling study tables.. not to mention L-shaped style... though the ready-made ones are definitely nicer than what my ID's contractor can make loh... sianz.. so wanna ask fellow forumers here... anyone customise their study table?? what kind of designs?? can show me? or if you all buy.. where to buy nicer study tables??? can recommend your carpentry contractor/ shops that sell/customise nice study tables??
  8. wah.. you good life leh.. 5pm?? wat time you start work??? i dun have tpt.. but usually i left on the dot... 5.30pm.. boss wun ask us to stay behind cos she also leave punctually.. heee.. but well, the policy has owae been.. "i dun care how you do it... just finish by deadline given...." so the ball is thrown into our court loh.. gave us the autonomy.. but cannot finish, you got to answer loh...
  9. Hommage at Serangoon Central.. i got a hard time finding it... but you will be disappointed as they did not display much furniture... you have to browse through catalogues and they will order for you... the salesman said it comes by shipment.. so you might need to wait for 1 month before shipment comes in.. but of course, the price is definitely cheaper than the big mega stores outside... they save storage and rental and pass you the savings.. but you wun be able to 'feel' the furniture loh...
  10. Hi snowiee.. i understand your concerns.. actually, its really difficult to say whether it is std... probably, a better way of mitigating our risks is to get a more reliable ID/contractor? as for defn of reliability... have to rely on the recommendations from fellow forumers... colleagues/frens... and your trust of your ID and the company... gut feel of the person/company you are dealing with, think also impt loh...
  11. Hi uniqlo.. real busy with shopping huh?? for the past few weeks, we have been meeting frankie during weekends to discuss on the painting colours, floor laminate colours, wrought iron gate/windows designs etc... ding dong at least a few hours... wed nite met to discuss on the laminates for kitchen cabinets, wardrobes and door designs... till 11pm... and he told us, it was only first round... gonna meet him during this coming weekend to confirm laminate colours... and i finally saw my 3D pictures... couple of amendments... poor him.. gonna redo for us.. maybe tonite working late is to draft my 3D pictures must remind myself to get the softcopy from him.. then i post here.... anyone meeting him over this coming weekend?? as for shopping.. no leh.. he said no need to buy so early.. for wat? let the workers use meh?? but he quite nice... offered to take us shopping for furniture accessories too.. great... dun mention... just tell him you are referred by the forumers... he wun dare to overcharge you.. i will be meeting him this coming sunday.. wanna me to remind him? pm me your name and ur estate.. i go pester him for you...
  12. hi elchwong... frankie hardly check emails cos he often not at his desk.. running around sites and co-ordinating the delivery dates/installation dates for clients.. i passed him all my purchases contacts, aircon contacts and he will settle the timing and dates... and he often worked till very late in the night.. i know cos i was discussing with him on my design stuff last nite till 11pm.. can die... everytime i emailed him, i got to give him a call first... if you wanna his hp, pm me... my advice is dun wait.. .call them instead.. cos the IDs hardly check emails.. i get frustrated emailing them... not only EI, other ID firms too.. so i call... and they are quite fast via phone...
  13. Hihi.. i dun really noe much abt her.. but when i requested to see workmanship, Frankie brought me to one of her completed projects... the results was quite good actually.. heard Frankie said she likes to play with lines... maybe you wanna ask her to show you some of her works???
  14. i dun have the layout yet... will post when i get them... i am not installing the hob and hood at the island.. just a sink...
  15. Hi MsPetite, In my opinion, there is too many edges in the kitchen... a round island looks a bit out of place.. for a rectagular island, it could have walking space constraint.. one suggestion will be you knock off the study area... extend the kitchen... if you really aim to do a island within the kitchen, you really need to measure accurately the space... costing wise, my ID never charge me extra leh... btw, i am doing a island too..
  16. i never trust audio house.. its just gimmicks... initially, i also thot, wah.. so nice meh... then i see again... the!
  17. ya ya... totalline... goodness me.. i really dreaming.. ya, got condition of course.. they give you $120 voucher which you can use for each unit maintenance charge... sth like rebate... they called it limited warranty... but that was not my primary concern lah...
  18. diva79 you get me really curious... give us the link.. i really wanna read abt this idiotic woman...
  19. i went to IMM GC and AB on last sunday... checked on the pricing, installation, cable, warranty etc for Toshiba Sys 3 Non-inverter... Just to share: GC: pricing was $1650, use armacel class 1 rubber tubing.. Got Branding award.. the copper wire was from another company (i forgot the name), made in Thailand. when i asked who is gonna do the installation, the salesman said usually Singaporean Chinese or Malaysian Chinese. I asked how abt bangla... he said they also have bangla but usually they do project work... unless no enuf manpower.. but he assured me that their skills are as good or even better than the rest.... as for installation, they only go down one trip... run the cable and up the units.. if you want 5 years installation warranty, buy at $299. if not, the std warranty applies... AB: pricing was $1628. Case Trust registered. The uncle said only 2 aircon companies registered. the other one is Coolserve, i think... the copper wire and rubber tubing is from same company, called Touchline?? sorry, i cant remember the name liao... installation done by Singaporean or Malaysian Chinese... they will go 2 trips.. one to run the cable.. another to fix the units up... he said this will facilitate the ID works... now they having promo.. warranty for 5 years by them throw in foc.. when i asked abt the thickness of the cable, he said not much diff... he knows that neighbour will encourage thicker cable... meaning to add $$.. he said dun waste money like that.. no need... really want, he can charge cheaper... only give him earn more comms.. in the end, i got my set from AB.. cos the uncle seems to be more honest, set cheaper, 5 years warranty at no xtra charge and the convenience.. they go 2 trips... also means i can pay by 2 times instalments...
  20. Hihi... do you have the floor plan? cos if you wanna quotations, usually the ID or contractors will request your floor plan... roughly have in mind what you like to do... for example, hacking? retiling of floor and wall tiles? laminating rooms? kitchen cabinets, wardrobes?? these are some standard reno items... for me, i started my reno research right after i settled on the flat, before getting the keys... but as i got my floor plan oredi, i just give the floor plan to the ID for quotations... then meanwhile, read forums, flip magazines, go shopping around for ideas... actually, can start discussing ideas and meet up with IDs.. cos you may go through several rounds before you settled on the final design... i went through at least 8 rounds of revised quotation before settling on my ID.. happy researching....
  21. WAH! 6 door wardrobe... i am also planning to do up a L-shaped study table opp the toilet.. similarly to yours but then my bed will be besides the study area...
  22. Hi Maeryn, i also got a flat at simei.. which block are you shifting into?? but i agree with you that the MBR toilet is a stupid obstacle to the layout.. anyway, my bed has to be on the opp side of the MBR toilet door so got the walking space issue.. sianz... can visualise?? my FS master said for flats, platform beds are okie as the HDB flats are oredi above ground level... 1st floor is the void deck mah...
