  1. Just want to share. In Hardwarezone, there is a forumer who can convert your telephone points to Ethernet point at an affordable price. Please note htat he only convert the endpoints (from telephone to ethernet) and not the cables. However, I am unsure what is the speed of the cables HDB installed in our house. http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/garage-sales-18/services-fiber-telephone-point-lan-data-ethernet-point-conversion-services-4390951.html
  2. Hello mavi, can I just confirm with you on your network layout. Let's assume you signing up for MyRepublic internet and Starhub's Cable TV. Internet Setup 1) TP has 2 ports labelled 1 and 2 and its located in closet near door. Assume port 1 is used for Myrepublic Internet. 2) TP Port 1 (@closet) connects to MyRepublic's ONT (@Living Room) via your own fiber cable. 3) ONT(@Living Room) connects to Router (@Study Room) 4) Router (@Study Room) connects to 24 ports Switch (@Study Room) 5) 24 ports Switch (@Study Room) connects to many patch panel leading to each room. *End Result: Every room has LAN connection coming from the 24 ports Switch. Cable TV Setup 1) TP has 2 ports labelled 1 and 2 and its located in closet near door. Assume port 2 is used for Starhub's Cable TV. 2) TP Port 2 (@closet) connects to Starhub's ONT (@Living Room) via existing cable layout by HDB. 3) ONT (@Living Room) connects to Starhub Modem (@Living Room) which connects to TV (@Living Room). 4) <im not sure what's next> *End Result: How to be able to watch Starhub's Cable TV in every room? Additional Questions 1) Where can we buy a roll of super long CAT6 cable? 2) Where does cable run? Usually along the ceilings or along the floor skirting?
  3. Wow. Very nice and colourful modern house. I prefer modern look too. $37k well spent!
  4. That is cheap. Can see that the price range are on the lower end. Care to pm the ID or contractor?
  5. How about half-leather? Can I assume it has some qualities of leather and fabric?
  6. Which type generally cost more? The sliding door or the swing door?
  7. It is how you balance safety vs nicer view. If you do not want to install grille, you consider installing CCTV camera pointing to the window and other measures you have in mind to have some layers of security. If you window is facing a good "public view", the risk is lessen. If its hidden, the risk is higher.
  8. There was a recommendation somwhere in the T-blog section of the forum to use Radianze Furnishing & Decor for blind. The boss name is Ryan and was told he give 5 years warranty. Unfortunately, I don't have the no.
  9. Do note that I am not making these statements: -Pay reasonable/high prices, confirm get good stuff. -Pay low, confirm get lousy stuff.
  10. Great. I thought 3 visits x $1500 each = $4500 total. Hahaha..
  11. Thanks for the reply. I also read in this forum and i got the important point that it should come before carpentry. Generally, I heard the quote is around $1000-1500 for a 4-room flat with 5 colors. Does it mean I can request them to come 2-3 times and pay $1000-1500 total?
  12. Cheap doesn't always mean good. What you pay is what you get. Sometimes, it's better to be quoted reasonable market price rather than a very cheap (below market rate) price. God knows where they cut corners. I believe the chances of things getting cock up is higher when u always go for the cheapest price.
  13. Good luck for the renovations ahead! Thanks for sharing. Not getting KDK ceiling fans?
  14. Congratulations on your new house and hope to see more updates on your reno progress!
  15. Thanks man. I talked to several people. Most are saying something like: 10-40-40-10 10-40-45-5 15-40-40-5 But the time of payments are similar. -Deposit -Before the start of work -Before fabrication of carpentry -Handover
  16. Hello, Can I ask what is the usual/industry practice of paying ID and renovation contractors? Are they something like..40% down payment at the start, 40% upon completion of something, 20% upon completion.. What is the industry norm? I'm sorry if this question was asked repeatedly. If this happens, just provide me the link will do.

I can say its about mid-end range. There are some high-end range though. I went to Star Living @ Furniture Mall last week. Like what they rest says, the staff are non-pushy.
  18. Aluminum grill for all windows - can outsource direct contractor. No coordination needed. Simple wire grill for balcony - same here also. Can do at any point of renovation.
  19. Obviously if the painter comes in after you move in your furniture, you'll have to move it to the center and cover it up. And wait for a day or two before shifting them in back.
  20. 1. House of Chandeliers (they have facebook page) 2. Premier Lightning
  21. Free shipping should already be there if your total purchases exceed US$125.
  22. Just finished reading 4 pages of your blog. Like it very much. Thank you for sharing!
