question for any home owners in lim liak/seng poh, tiong poh road flat (contractor says that only this kind of flats [built before HDB became HDB] have this problem)... when you renovated, did you convert your toilet from squat to sit and did your contractor have a big problem changing the WC? mine was supposed to be done yesterday and the contractor told me that this kind of flats are a bit more tricky. he says that when the plumber removed the old bowl, he could see through to the downstairs neighbour's house and that he'll have to re-do the ceiling of the neighbour... so that means i have to pay for the neighbour's new ceiling, plastering and painting... anyone encountered this too? help!

hi sinner, thanks for your thoughts. we will be overlaying the tiles with laminate flooring (kronotex or supreme) and were hoping to have everything on the same level. i don't quite understand the last portion you mentioned about the 'platform' though. do you mean to have the balcony area raised instead? unfortunately that's not quite possible. we need it to be the same level as the living room cos if not, the TV area would be too small !!

My place used to have a balcony but the previous owner converted it into part of living room but there's a 1inch difference in height in the flooring. I'd like to level it up but was quoted either EP form (more expensive) or sand screeding (cheaper). What's the difference? And I was previously quoted CEMENT screeding. Same thing or not? Some kind soul please help!

Hello Doremon, I'm also intending to do that. I've read that for beginners (i.e. non green fingers like me), it's best to buy potted herbs first, then progress to seeds. I guess it's cos from seeds more ma fan, then if we fail halfway, we give up without knowing the joy of having the herbs? Haha. I intend to grow them in my kitchen. Like you, not sure what herbs are suitable. I think I've seen some being sold in Cold Storage. Good luck to us!

Hi Celltono, I'm going to be your new neighbour. I've just bought Block 28 (post office block) and I'm still deciding on contractor Do you have the floor plan? If not, can buy from HDB at $5 I think. From there, a contractor will be able to advise which walls are structural, and which can be hacked. Just to share, in case our layout is the same, I'm knocking down the wall between toilet and shower, that's all By the way, my valuation report states that the flat was built in 1973. and from what I understand, not all the blocks are under conservation area. Those nearer the main road may risk going en bloc. I hope I won't kena cos I really love the place and the flat itself!
