  1. Just did custom-made curtain for my house. Yong Meng curtain. $404 for 2 HDB rooms (with silver track). Quite expensive for a company that claims to be budget curtains provider. Before sales service was ok. Curtain quality is fine. Installation had some problem and attitude problem, i.e. cracking the wall and insistence that owner is wrong and company are right. Won't deal with them again. Won't recommend. Overall, I've approached quite a few customised curtain vendors. None have been fully satisfactory. They are supposed to provide more personalised service for a higher price but I think I could be better off DIY-ing myself. Cheaper deal or (for the same price) higher quality via Ikea or Spotlight, minus the headache of dealing with these people.
  2. For custom-made curtains, consulted 3 vendors: 1. Exquisite Rosewood Cushion MFG -- small husband/wife operation. Service ok, price quite high. Seems more sales-oriented, less customer-service oriented. 2. RH2S Deco Curtain -- price seems impossibly low and they provide pretty low-end accessories. The person who came to measure was very not attentive (i.e. don't listen at all). Gave me no confidence in his ability. 3. Yong Meng Curtain (aka www.budgetcurtainsg.com) -- initial consultation by the uncle seems promising. He seems to know what he does, although he's quiet. However, despite their claim to be the cheapest curtain in Singapore, they are NOT. In the end, we chose Yong Meng. Overall quality for the curtain was decent. I have a problem with their installation and lack of responsibility. (a) When there is a problem, they will not admit it's their fault. In my case, the curtain tieback was made way too long and the curtain covered 3/4 of the window even when it's tied up. The guy still insists it's not their fault because they "made it according to the width and height of the window". Oh come on. Use your brain la! In the end, he walked off, claiming that I have to pay just $5 more to alter the tieback. (b) The installer cracked almost the entire length of the wall above my window when he drilled the bracket. We anticipated that there could be a problem when he came to measure. We asked him - he was over-confident. Look what happened. Above all, the uncle didn't even tell me the problem until I spotted it!! Although he plastered back, it's just a superficial solution. Definitely a happy customer. Should have looked for more vendors or buy from Spotlight / Ikea. Cheaper and more choices.
  3. Just installed Fanco and already have problem. One fan came with a crack on the light cover and broke immediately when electrician unscrewed to put in light bulb. Best part is, Fanco fan warranty does not cover for defects on this part. Only chose Fanco over KDK because I need ceiling fan with light.

Just one more thing - we found out yesterday (when we started opening the boxes and installing the electrical items) that the quality of BLE's products is lousy. See my comment here: http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=49758&st=40&gopid=790376entry790376
  5. BLE ( Best Light Electrical Sdn. Bhd) in Taman Johor Jaya -- BEWARE! I sourced my lights and ceiling fans from BLE ( Best Light Electrical Sdn. Bhd), based on good reviews from Renotalk. Their price is cheap and their quality is also horrendous. A few problems: (1) We just opened the box of light yesterday -- the quality was poor! The furnishing on the wooden part was rough and there were 2 dents on the edges of the light box. We didn't check the good before taking back to Singapore, so now we are faced with (a) making another trip to JB or (b) suck up with it. (2) Ceiling fan with light, Fanco brand. One fan has a crack on the light cover. When the electrician unscrewed the cover, the piece broke into pieces. Now my electrician has to go source for replacement. God knows where he's going to find it in Singapore as this is a Malaysian Fanco model!!! (3) Ceiling fan with light, Fanco brand. One of the boxes missing a bracket for the remote control. (4) Philips fluorescent light. One of the cables came loose, not soldered properly. I must go hunting for a shop in SIngapore to solder the loose wire! Sigh... (5) Simple T5 tube. BLE sold it without the bracket to mount the light. All it costs is $1. Why did they purposely omit it? What the heck -- just to save money? LESSONS: (1) Check your goods before taking it (2) Cheap good = cheap quality. If possible, go to another shop. (3) Cindy Chong is not as nice as the forum seems to indicate. Beware of her.

Feel that I should add my 2 cents to this thread because BLE (Best Light Electrical) has been getting a lot of good reviews online. Sure enough, they have very good pricing (e.g. ceiling fans are 50%+ off compared to Singapore, even when you compare them to other shops in JB, they are still slightly cheaper). The contact person, Cindy, just rubs me the wrong way though. It's not that her customer service sucks, but she is very inconsistent. Sometimes she cares and answers your questions properly, sometimes she gives off that bo-chap attitude and make you sit in front of her waiting for her answers like an idiot. You would think that when you buy a lot from her shop, she would be nicer. WRONG! Whoever you are, if you don't like it, just scoot!
  7. I visited Hoe Kee at Genting Road in early Feb, just before CNY. The customer service was despicable. The auntie serving me at first seemed interested to serve me. After a while, it seemed that she looked down on our ability to buy - so her answers turned into Yes, No and price. After 10 minutes, she walked away totally. We looked at things by ourselves for the next 30-40 minutes while the sales people gossiped among themselves. Nobody cared to ask whether we needed help. When we finally asked her to write up the items we were interested in, her writing was so horrendous and she sounded like she doesn't want to explain when we asked to clarify. To prove her assumption, we are certainly not buying from Hoe Kee, purely because Hoe Kee gave us no reason to buy from them. In fact, I'll take the quote elsewhere and purchase from other friendlier suppliers. Final Verdict: (a) Product selection : 7 out of 10 (b) Customer service: 1 out of 10
