  2. 工字不出头 . This is the first time I'm understanding the lyrics of this song with English subtitle provided.
  3. For cheap and fashionable blinds, can consider buying from here. http://list.qoo10.sg/item/ROSANDECO-HORIZONTAL-BLIND-HOME-WALL-DECOR/412102305. And get your contractor to install for you.
  4. Most people staying in kampong will burn sage leaves to drive away negative energy. This has been traditional for decades. I love the smell of dried sage leaves so I place some inside kitchen cabinets and storeroom too. When burnt, it smell ok, but not as nice as when dried. You can burn sage leaves as often as you wish but usually people will burn when don't feel good energy surrounding the house. I usually do it before my maid come so the maid can clean the ashes and smell . Sage leaves is a very low cost product, even the villagers can afford them. However, most shops in Singapore overpriced them. A $25 big packet should be able to last for almost 3 years. I usually share with 2 or 3 friends so just $9 for each of us. I'm not sure where is a good place to buy but I saw them in one of the booth during Singapore Love & Light festival so just grabbed a packet and go. In the United State, a bunch is probably just few dollars. Given it's affordability, no harm giving it a try. Sage is a plant species. Sage leaves is the dried leaves of Sage plants. It is primarily used for cleansing purpose, not related to religion, feng shui or geomancy.
  5. Don't borrow from money lenders, even though they are licensed money lenders. You will be killed by the processing fee, administration fee, late payment interest, interest on late payment and interest on late payment interest fee. This is how money lenders operate - Money lenders usually borrow from banks and then lend the money to borrowers. Hence the money lenders will charge much higher interest to borrowers in order to cover the borrowing cost from banks. Since this is the case, why go to money lenders? Go straight to banks, please.
  6. I have been wanting to change the laminate of my wardrobe too but have no idea where to engage such service and how much it would cost . An alternative could be film. A contractor who did the crystal window films for my windows showed me some photo of his other clients' works. The design can be customized and can be applied on windows, doors and wardrobes. I did not ask further because I'm hoping to explore laminate option first.
  7. Hello singles, may I know if you are going for single bed or queen size bed? Space is a constraint for me. I wish I had bought a bigger unit, mine is only 85 sqm . I'm used to having big desk/working station, bed and wardrobe all in one bedroom and intend to keep it this way so will not have a separate study room.
  8. Hi Koori, it's ok to do without a hood because you have a service balcony for laundry. My mum never use hood in her whole life. I intend to get one only because I do not have a service balcony and laundry area is too close to cooking area. I have to keep the clothes whenever I want to cook, and after awhile starting to get lazy and find it a chores. Thus decided to get one when renovation starts.
  9. Great explanation, I couldn't explain properly what's the drainer. Yes - it's that space next to the sink.
  10. I could not click on 'OK' to post photo so shall paste the link here instead. These are photos of sink with drainer. The drainer area can be used in several ways. My mum used the left drainer for food preparation, and the right drainer for drying pots/plates/utensils. My kitchen is small so I will go for only a big single bowl with left side drainer. https://www.google.com.sg/search?q=sink+with+drainer&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=ls0RU53wM4aMrQf74YDIDQ&ved=0CCUQsAQ&biw=1067&bih=563

  15. Not only the fridge, look around for cooker hob, hood, and sink too. These come in different sizes so take down the measurement. From the drawing, the hob is too near the sink. Do you intend to get a single bowl sink? I used to dislike my parents' sink with double drainer because it looks old fashioned. But after using my ex-owner's single bowl sink, I decided to go for sink with drainer, and the bigger the better.
  16. I concur to choose a fridge first. Then discuss with your contractor if it can fit nicely into the layout. Otherwise can still change the fridge or the layout. And yes, the bigger the better! I thought that my 450L fridge is more than sufficient but now I wish I had bought a even bigger one. Most importantly - leave about 5cm space between the fridge and wall/cabinet for the motor to have sufficient space to release heat. Make sure the fridge door can open more than 90 degree, not just 90 degree but more than 90 degree so there is space to remove the shelves for washing.
  17. Hello everyone, I'm also single & clueless, but happy & proud as finally have a house of my own. Mine is a small resale 4 room flat. I've already moved in and life has been challenging since - air con leaked, water heater blasted, couldn't light up gas stove, and the list go on. Much money has been spent on basic repair & maintenance so I intend to redo the house and invest in better quality appliances which probably will be more cost saving in longer term. I'm managing this house alone so am really stressful, but remind myself that this should be an enjoyable journey.
  18. I'm also looking for one. I found some contacts at http://sg.88db.com/q-freelance%20interior%20designer/1/, but there is no review of any of them.
  19. Hi wabisabi, does the polishing help to remove stain and uneven color on terrazzo flooring?
  20. Hi Harriette, Please PM me Jay and Mr Yeak contact details and their rate. Thank U! I really envy EM owner, I already starting to regret getting my 90sqm one.
