Haiz we ended up with a Dunlopillo individual pocketed spring mattress with some pillow top as padding. We talked to the shop owner and realized it is not that spring is not good for our backs. We have after all been sleeping on a hand-me-down basic mattress and 一分钱，一分货！ so we decided to give spring mattress another chance. Actually it is more of the feel. We lied down on different mattresses that were within our budget and compared, tried lying down flat & sideways and with different pillows so yeah, took few hours to confirm.

Where is the sewage hole for the sink now? Try not to shift your sink too far away. If the outgoing pipe from your new sink to the sewage hole gets clogged up, may be hard to clear cos of the additional pipe length. I am experiencing something like this now for my parents' place so must maintain regularly

If you are shortlisting layout 2, you may wanna swop positions for the sink with hob. IMHO, the sink if placed nearer to the rubbish chute will come in handy when you wanna throw away wet trash bags! And if the hob is open fire, next to window may pose a risk of the fire being blown out.

Yes agree with you, TV price sure will drop... Now have to be giraffe and tune up radar to sense for the next IT Fair. For our other electrical items, we are using 冷门 brands so doubt there will be much discounts for our hob, hood, microwave, washing machine & fridge.

Oh for your MBR, you did a L-shaped wardrobe? Don't you find the room size small? It is like super challenging to squeeze in a decent sized wardrobe and a queen bed

Strange, I saw in another blog, maybe z3phy that HDB doesn't allow toilet main pipes to be boxed up and hence he has to paint them black, like how retchlow did hers.

Oh different designs for the windows? We have the same problem and were wondering why our sellers chose slanted grills for bedroom and 'square' grills for the living room + common bedroom. So we decided to standardize and change cos our place is really very original with not much renovation done before! Our doors can't be salvaged much cos the wooden part is peeling and Mr Seller drilled a lock & clasp over the storeroom door (the type where you have to hook up and then secure with small padlock)... Not sure why and we actually haven't seen the interior of the storeroom before! Because of the incident with our seller, we have no choice but to change our main door. Scared he may do something funny after we move in. Alan said changing the main door lock is slightly cheaper than changing the whole door.

Welcome to the 3-roomer club! Can understand the budget constraint; if you are focusing on the kitchen, I think this may be workable but not sure if can squeeze in windows, grills and doors. Are they working well still? Can change the locks, re-paint them to some funky colors and change at a later phase?

Bought most of our electrical appliances from Unilite and our mattress from Cheap Mattress Centre @ Macpherson. Impulse buys to some extent especially we haven't even received our keys I think we are one of the most kiasu couples around LOL Now only left TV, sound bar, Ikea stuff for the living room & store room, sanitary wares, bed, drawers, bookshelf, lighting & switches!

I realize Mr E & I are 'soft-hearted' folks who prefer warm, sincere service even if the price or item may not be the best for us. Yesterday and today, we patronized 2 family-run shops and decided to buy from them instead of the usual Courts etc. And we didn't even checked other shops to ensure that we have gotten the best deal! Support the SMEs! (Downside: they don't accept credit cards so can't earn cash rebates, aiyah!)

In our search for the mattress, we managed to finally eat this (or rather I finally managed to eat this!) Kay Lee Roast Meat Joint by Makanology, on Flickr Succulent fatty char siew with some charred bits, roast pork & roast duck with awfully nice crispy skin. Not cheap, 3 types of roast for 2 persons with 2 rice & drinks @ $25 but the fatty part & crispy skin is worth it. Check it out when you head to Amasco, Odyssey, Cheap Mattress Centre & Hock Siong: all in the same area. Oh we spotted Lush there too.

Thanks! Need to go see more of such fairs to learn and then decide. The thing is TV prices will continue to go down once new models are introduced so we have to resist & buy as late as possible. Targeting May or June!

Yes I saw her place and her pastel green Smeg; was exchanging marketing ideas with Kelvin yesterday and I told him he has in a way, gotten a good deal with her cos usually her rates are exorbitant! BTW her house is REALLY nice; her carpentry not bad; but I think now the carpenter may mark-up more if they have become more popular due to her endorsement.

Saw 2 mattress warehouse sales going on this weekend - Slumberland & Dunlopillo. Are such sales worthwhile? Can they keep stock for 2 months? We have set aside $1k for our mattress; hope this is enough for a decent mattress. Defintely not looking at a spring one as our current one is giving us bad back problems just after 2 years (maybe it is a cheap one?) exploring foam or latex ones but I am completely clueless! Any recommendations?

Now you have made us re-think of the size of our TV... Lost here, the space between TV and sofa will not be big too. And our sofa is quite humongous-type so maybe a 42" will do? Or at most, the size after it - which is 44", if any? 3D TV useful or smart TV? Mostly we watch downloaded stuff hahaha. Am thinking of investing in a Apple TV also

Thanks! Out of curiosity, why aren't you going for something bigger than a 42"? Your living room is bigger than ours and we are actually thinking of anything between 42-47"

How much is the TV and the sound bar? We are looking for either LG or Samsung TV... Left this item & our mattress not bought yet...
