Thanks to all! We decided to go for a short break to Penang to get away from the renovation stress! This is also more or less an eating trip cum vintage wares hunt! We found so much good and very authentic Penang food - yummy!

I think bo bian, everyone who just moved in will just have to bear with the cleaning. Hopefully after a month, it will be better?

Yeah, I don't fall under the category of choosing a contractor depending on how well u get along with him/her. It's all about communicating, understanding, and making a point to understand. Reason why I prefer Dorothy is because she is detailed. Normally, people who are detailed tends to be meticulous. She was actually quite responsive and has initiative when it comes to details, like the optional choices based on ur budget. I think that's quite commendable. We just might get her to do some ad-hoc work in the near future, such as custom furniture which I have designed.

Morning! It is simple brown. The painter just painted over the beams with solid brown. Think it will be very tedious to ask them to paint it with 'wood grains'. Also doubt he has the experience.

Mr E here. I quite had ENOUGH of this fellow. Apparently, the entire renovation journey has been made very unpleasant and getting a contractor or an ID is to allow us the convenience. However, it doesn't seem so, as it appears that our inconvenience matters very little to him, so long it's convenient for him. We both have to work too, and he's not the only one. We paid for the convenience but instead we have gotten more inconveniences through his pathetic management and coordination.

We told Mr A that the kitchen cabinets can be the last item to be installed but he warned us that there is a backlog with his carpenter so have to wait a bit. Then no updates for a week after we moved in till we reminded him the kitchen is still outstanding (we haven't met the carpenter and we are using temporary power points for our fridge and washing machine). After the reminder, then things started to move again but at a snail's pace.

Cement stains on the tiles (we bought thinner to remove them), the main gate paint chipped off too easily (Mr E re-painted it himself), grout line washed off too easily (again Mr E patched this up himself also) and the list goes on. Mr A earlier agreed to help us fix up some railings for kitchen, curtain rods and clocks but as we are already living inside, we invested a drill and hung all these ourselves. Couldn't wait for him to arrange.

Our kitchen cabinet is almost ready; well after we have moved in 3 weeks ago. Why almost? The plumber hasn't connected the kitchen sink and mixer to the pipes etc. In the mean time, we are doing the rectifications ourselves. Decided not to get the contractor as we have lost faith .(

Hi we didn't buy a kitchen island from TB; didn't even know that such stuff can be sold 'off-the-shelf'!But we bought our queen bed from TB which is packed flat and shipped using Amcon freight service. Shipping charge is affordable but it was a HUGE pain assembling it...

Hi we did wooden ceiling boards with partition board but they were painted over instead of lamination. So agreed on the cleaning part! We have moved in for 3 weeks and cleaning very regularly but dust is still everywhere! When are you guys moving in?

Go to TB to buy the decorative items and then you can stretch the budget further which is what we are doing. Usually it is the decorative stuff that will enhance the look!

Lucky they match! by Makanology, on Flickr Bought our coffee table from none other than Ikea! Lucky it kinda matches our 26 (?) years old sofa. Added some peony floral cushion covers bought from TB, same as the orange cushion cover. Both quality ain't bad! Finally an ikea green throw on the sofa to minimize stains on the sofa cushion.

Yes we do but Spartacus is bit too vivid (gory) for me though I can stomach anything zombies!

Errr I like k dramas more than Mr E. he only like those action ones like Iris and those period dramas with fighting! But we love our syfy ones like Fallen Skies, Walking Dead, Stargate etc and of course Game of Thrones! We watch more English dramas than k...

Oh the lappy is there cos the study room is in a mess! We are streaming using the LG Smart TV so we can catch our k dramas on epdrama!

Haha maybe we do have a deprived childhood! On a positive note, our kitchen cabinets will be installed this Friday - yay!
