  1. Our first purchase for our house and after a month of searching: Accordion lamp by Makanology, on Flickr Specially sourced in Ikea KL and air flown in Accordion lamp part 2 by Makanology, on Flickr Now what color should we paint them in?
  2. You are so funny! I must admit the stove and sink look really good
  3. I opt for the peranakan tile! Actually these are 2 extreme looks. One is more traditional while the other is very industrial. Maybe you have to see which kitchen look will 'flow' better with the look of the rest of your place?
  4. I think the rusty tiles suit your dining set better... But I may be wrong.... Or maybe to be safe, print out the Hafary tiles in several pieces, print also your dining table and put all together. Then see if it will go well? There seems to be a possibility that it will blend beautifully too.
  5. Yes it is all quite confusing but at the end of the day, do what you & your family really like cos all of you are the ones staying in the house for long. Hmmm cooking Mr E sure can cook better than me. Even his fried egg is better than mine. I haven't tried his baba dishes but I think he is better in western dishes. Oh his Bubur chacha not bad
  6. Mr E shared that peranakan tiles are European-influenced and look similar to the ones at Hafary and the 20x20 ones at Unlimited/ An Huat. But there is 1 strong trait for the true blue peranakan tiles - their colors are brighter, bolder, and usually with yellow / blue / red in the designs. Flowers used in the designs include rose and tulips. There are animals used in peranakan tile design but not commonly found here. also the tiles are placed in such a way that it is a eclectic look yet not gaudy (ok, I am still trying to decipher what Mr E said on this One last thing, he said also usually the 10x10 tiles are placed together with a rectangular tile that forms a border (maybe 10x30) if we want to achieve the most authentic look. so now we are trying to see if we can get these longish tiles and fit into the overall bathroom walls with the 10x10 without veering off to the world of gaudiness. One house renovation exercise and we are learning so much new stuff!
  7. Wah the patchwork flooring above is a much bolder choice and the walls are in checkered yellow! Think not for the faint-hearted
  8. I like your choice for the kitchen flooring! I think it is ok for the flooring so long your backsplash/ wall tiles be something more subdued so that the floor will stand out. And choose complementary colors for the kitchen cabinets which I think your choice of light brown wood grain laminate should go well. Will stay tuned to see the end result of your kitchen
  9. If you do the exact shoe cabinet, there is space for 40 pairs. Enough for the family or just for yourself?
  10. My Mr E so fussy; Hafary didn't passed his test so we will settle for Unlimited for the floor tiles 20x20. Have to choose the plain non-slip ones also for the floor. The small 10x10, TB is much cheaper! May buy a few pieces via daigou to see quality and design/color coordination. And Mr E said if do full wall, very gaudy so we compromise - do checkered style with plain 10x10 for all walls. So not so tiring for the eyes but tiring for the tiler!
  11. Which big peranakan floor tile design have you selected for your kitchen floor? Do you realize An Huat price is higher than Unlimited by $1? And both also from Vietnam
  12. Red bricks so nice right! Gives the old barn look and we manage to source the right lights for it. Today at An Huat, we saw this Korean old antique bricks which the salesman 'swears' that this is the real deal. Each piece is around 150 years old and has some living organism in it. These tiles 'breathe' and can help those who have asthma etc. when cold, keeps the heat in so he says for Singapore, when hot, will cool the place. Sounds like a miracle? Anyways he said craftbricks cost $6.50 per square foot while the Korean real deal cost $7 per square foot, just $0.50 more for all the benefits (eyes rolling)... Anyways we are cracking our head over the delivery & customs. Think if 2-3 cartons at a go should be ok. But we need to do 5-6 trips to JB so 5-6 weekends! Alan has quoted $1500 + $1800 (1st for dining area and 2nd for living room. Think he quoted for full walls but we intend to do scattered bricks for living room.
  13. Hmmm your brick wall is light colored. We are looking at a darker one for full wall at the dining area... I think it will make our dining area look petite
  14. I am trying to find out the cost of getting the bricks from JB with the email you gave me earlier. But I think we need 16 cartons! And that works out to 350kg! I have a JB residential address for them to deliver to but it would take many, many trips for me to bring them back to Singapore. Our car can't take that weight all at once!
  15. Scare if all round will make my 'world' spin every time I step into the bathroom if all 4 walls! Can you imagine these bright colors below lining all 4 walls? Wahahaha Unlimited + An Huat 23.2.13 by Makanology, on Flickr
  16. Yes saw the 10x10 square Peranakan tiles and yes we will be getting them for the bathrooms! It will be a riot of colors, yeah But we can't decide how much of the walls to cover.
  17. Are you planning to do your wardrobe like this? If yes, I will be so envious - it is like a dream wardrobe! I will definitely be very motivated to fill up all the holes and to keep it neatly organised always!
  18. Hmmm how to describe, maybe not so western country, more of western diner. Think of black & white floor tiles...
  19. Nice black bidet spray - so your bathrooms will be a black & white theme! And your brick wall is looking good. That is the TV feature wall? Are you mounting your TV? And I saw that you are having in your wardrobe a drawer with all the holes for easier organization! We have to stretch our creativity to maximize the use of our 6ft wardrobe; maybe folding more clothes instead of hanging
  20. Ya! Both Unlimited and An Huat suggested that we use them for the kitchen flooring but we wanted a different look for the kitchen - western country cum diner so the floral tiles wouldn't fit. Oops I just realized we have different themes for each room! That is really a mish mash of styles... Hope we do not end like a themed restaurant with different themes or a museum showing different eras hahaha
